Yes, there are known problems with layers/tabs in the 1.0b5 No XUL version of K-Meleon. Please see:

@Yeye:

Sorry to hear you are having problems downloading. I downloaded the file and tested it successfully with two different archivers. So, something must have gone wrong in your download process - please try it again, or use the mirror link shown at http://www.mc-fadzean.fsnet.co.uk/computing/kmeleon.html#pkm (then use the 'Free' button at the bottom right of the RapidShare page).
Also, do you use 7-Zip as an archive program? It has a known bug handling some zip archives.

I use the graphical version of KMprof 2.01 with K-Meleon 1.0(K-Meleon1.0.7z), and K-Meleon will be auto closed when i have more than 5 layers(tabs),also will be killed when open 5 empty new layers

and i test only use K-Meleon 1.0 too, it works very well

my poor english

@fourleaf:

I have experimented with KMprof 2.01 and K-Meleon 1.0 (installed from K-Meleon1.0.7z) and I've got it working happily under Windows 2000 (+SP4) with many layers open. So I'm afraid I cannot replicate your problem at the moment.

Which operating system are you using? Or are you maybe running out of RAM?

PS: No need to apologize for your English!

thanks for your answer

i run it under WinXP SP2. when i only use K-Meleon 1.0 (installed from K-Meleon1.0.7z) it works very well with many layers. but problem to use KMprof 2.01 to run it when have 5 more layers. so it will not be wrong with K-Meleon or OS or RAM.

i think, will it be something wrong with kprofile.dll under XP SP2?

i don't know how to get the bug result

i like to use with multiple profiles, now i only run under 5 layers.

Thanks for the additional information, fourleaf.

I have reported the problem to the K-Meleon forum at:
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=40131&t=40131
Meantime I will experiment further later today and keep you informed if I make progress.

I've now released the Pocket K-Meleon 1.0 (final) package at http://kmeleon.uk.to. But I still can't replicate the problem with K-M 1.0 and KMprof.

@fourleaf: When using kprofile.dll, did you remember to rename profile.dll first (say to profile.dlk) and delete compreg.dat and xpti.dat from the components folder before restarting K-Meleon?

Yes, of course I renamed profile.dll to profile.dlk, and deleted compreg.dat and xpti.dat

from the components folder as KMprof /?. (just auto recovered when I restart the program)

Pocket K-Meleon 1.0 crashes if I attempt to run a second instance of it ! For example, I have Pocket K-Meleon running, then on another application I click "Go to Web Page" (or I type a web address in the Start->Run bar), and the request for a new K-Meleon window doesn't merge with the existing window as a new layer - instead it crashes my Windows Millennium ! This does not happen with the regularly installed K-Meleon 1.0, only with the pocket version.

Me again, I did some experimenting. The problem I described below can very easily be reproduced - like this: run the REGULAR K-Meleon.exe, let it open, then click on the same K-Meleon.exe & You will get just a new layer (if You chose the single window option); but do this same test on the POCKET K-Meleon.exe, and it will crash. So the bug seems to be in the pocket K-Meleon.exe, or in it's adjacent files.

@Edin Karcic:

Thanks for your reports. This problem could be caused by a few issues, and I'll try and experiment myself when I get time, though I can't try it on Win ME, only 98SE, 2000 and XP. The only significant difference between Pocket and regular K-Meleon is the way the EXE, DLL and JAR files are compressed using UPX. Therefore this problem could also be in K-Meleon regular, but just happens to manifest differently in memory.

The K-M Bugs Forum at http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?f=3 does have some posts which might overlap with your problem. Something like a memory leak or the layers plugin are always likely candidates! Are your Win ME DLLs up to date?

Thanks !

I also tried the
Pocket K-Meleon 1.0.b5.k (SeaMonkey)
and this particular version is problem free !

Odd ...

All of my Win Me dll's are up-to-date,
and all other K-Meleon versions (Pocket & Regular) are working fine.

I am using PocketK-Meleon on a USB stick and think it's great. The ease with which you can configure different proxy setups is especially handy. Thanxxx.

I have run into the "can't find *.dll" problem often enough (even on XP machines!) that I just put the needed DLLs into K-Meleon's folder. Why not do this in the default PocketK-Meleon distribution? It's easy to do if you know how to do it, but it's scary if you don't.
