Wow, it's great to see this web site up and running! Thank you Dite. I am writing to let everyone know that we will be having a SHADE rollerskating fiesta on November 11 at 7-10 at Fast Forward Skate on Verona road. Feel free to contact me for information. There will also be an email sent out as well as posters.

I was wondering how everyone's semester was going? Final's are just around the corner, are there any specific, helpful startegies that you are using to get through to the end?

What time works best for you to have a SHADE meeting? Would Thursdays at noon work?

Thurs at noon is not good for me, I have a lab for 650. Tuesday at 10, 11, or noon would work.

Someone in my dialogue today expressed an interest in continuing the discussion, so I reffered her here. I just wanted to let everyone know this is a place where we can continue the discussion, start a new topic, and you can post anonymously if you want!
My thoughts on the dialogues- It was difficult for me as a facilitator to overcome my discomfort of interrupting or re-focusing faculty and staff as far as trying to facilitate them, and trying to make sure that the students in the group had equal time. I wonder if maybe it would go better if the facilitators were not students. I also think it would help to clarify what we are talking about when we say "cultural competence" or "diversity" or words like that. In our initial training, we were told to keep the discussion on race. Is that how we want these dialogues to be, or do we want to talk about all types of diversity? Because I think people can use other types of diversity to distract from the subject of race, or they can bring up legitamate points, but it is hard to separate those things out. Also there was a student who said she felt uncomfortable in one of my groups, and I wasn't sure why, so I don't know if the process was quite working for everyone. I think it's a great start though. We started some great conversations, but we need to keep brining it up, and working out the process.

Is SHADE now what was formerly SHARE?

Yeah, it used to be called SHARE. They changed "Racial Equality" to "Diversity and Equality" so the focus could be more broad.
