BTW, nice to meet you and the guys (Randy, Tommy and Ray if my memory serves me)...hope to play a round with you guys again soon!

Danny B...definitely going to be a good time...they HAD a driving range, sort of...it was just a netted cage, but a big one. That could have been torn down since the last time I was there.
Jim A. - I've played North Creek, and it's quite tough...more of a links layout, and a good ways out west. If you're looking to play down here, Tunica National is a good one (and also tough.)

Course Report....Played Bear Trace at Ross Creek yesterday. Greens were smooth and fast, excellent condition as was the rest of the course even this late in the year. Like most Nicklaus courses, WIDE fairways, but don't miss them or big trouble.
I played 18 with a group from Bartlett that had gone up Friday morning and played 18 Fri and 36 Sat. Maybe MSGC might want to consider some type of 2-3 day golf trip somewhere next summer/fall if enough interest? Just an idea.

Danny B...sounds good. I've played a Bear Trace course before, but barely remember it...I think it was in Jackson. Bear Trace and RTJ would be an excellent 2-3 day trip...I'd be in!! I do a couple of RTJ trips every year, and there's nothing like throwing your back out playing 48 holes in two days!! :-)

Hello everyone! I am excited about playing the scramble this Sunday @ Cordova Country Club. I was a member there for 2 years, so to answer some questions...there is not a range and probably never will be, so if you need to hit balls to warm up I suggest Putt-Putt on Summer or closest would be Stonebridge in Lakeland.

Heheh...good suggestion, Danny B...if Brent's been playing that course for 2 years (BTW, Hey Brent! Welcome to the chat ;-), he's definitely gonna have it in for us. It's...well...a non-traditional layout. When I was there last, they were in the midst of reassigning some of the holes (I think #1 became #10, etc. etc.)...Brent, wanna shed some light before we see for ourselves tomorrow? :-)

Let me know who's interested either by posting on this board or sending me an email - jaa1973@yahoo.com. Third... please be patient with the latest website updates - not all the graphics were linked properly (oops!). I should have it fixed by Friday.

The golfing world is celebrating a new invention that promises to revolutionize the sport.
The new device that is receiving so much attention is called the "Bee Nut". It is a fastening attachment that allows a player to adjust the loft on their club to any angle thus saving the need to carry a bagful of clubs. As an example, a player can use the same club to putt with as they used to get out of the sand trap.
Golf clubs with this modification are selling quickly, and players everywhere are taking golfing picnics, so they can try their new Bee Nut Putter / Sand Wedge.

Thanks

The RE/MAX Tour consists of 6 official events starting in May and ending in September. Players will earn points based on their placement at each event. Prizes for each tournament and season leaders will be given.
There is no handicap limit - all ability levels are welcome. There will be at least 2 flights at each event. Also, at least 2 of the events (possibly 3) will be 2-person team events (scramble). I'll be posting the schedule and registration information in the next couple of weeks.
In addition to the 6 'official' events, we will have informal outings about every couple weeks just so we can get out and play.
If there are others with questions, feel free to post them here or send me an email - jim@midsouthgolfclub.com

I like the idea of the Mid-South Golf Club and the RE/MAX Tour -- nice job in putting this together.
A question: Will we have to pay a lump sum in advance for all six of the "official" tourney events, or will we be able to pay only for the events that we play in? I might be away for a couple of months this summer, and the tour would make sense for me only if I am able to pay for each event individually. I am also curious what a round at Colonial might cost us. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Rich, I'm glad you found us! Registration will be set up so you can register and pay for each event separately or at the same time - it's your choice. The Colonial details haven't been finalized yet, but as soon as I know the cost I'll let everyone know. I should have all the fees, times, format, and registration forms available for all the tournaments by the end of next week.

Hey Jim, I visited your booth during the exhibition this year and I am very impressed by the work you guys are doing. My question is probably too basic and foolish but here it i anyway - I am a 30 handicap, woud it be any good trying to compete on this Remax tour? I believe all u guys will have is like 2 flights ... Am I a match for it? A reply will be appreciated. My second query is regarding the handicap calculation, these would be individually filled in right? How would you guys determine if I have put in the right handicap score for myself? My third query is regarding the Remax tour events...How many round sof golf do we have for each of these tournaments ? Thanx SETH

Hi Seth - thanks for your questions! (1) You're not alone - others have asked the same question regarding higher handicaps. Each tournament will have as many flights as necessary to even the field - all ability levels will be accomodated! (2) Each player is responsible for providing an accurate handicap. The handicaps wil be verified prior to each tournament through the individuals handicap provider (GHIN, NGN, etc.). Now... everyone knows that the handicap system isn't perfect - it works largely on the honor system. We'll make adjustments throughout the season if individuals are consistently playing well above or below their handicap. (3) Each tournament consists of 1 round. If you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I can potentially provide a portable scoring system for the tournaments. I purchased an SBA Golf Distributorship and am selling sponsorships on permanant leaderboards in TN and MS. If there is interest, I believe I can manufacture what is needed through my Distributor. Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Well for example, the other day I went into town and went into a shop. I was only in there for about 5 minutes When I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket I went up to him and said, "Come on son, how about giving a senior a break?"
He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him a piece of dog crap.
He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, I could care less. I came into town by bus but, I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired.
It's important at our age.

ParrotHead, I have to say...GO SENIORS!!! :-) If I were the cop, I'd have had some respect...I mean, come on...if we're going to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, can we not grant amnesty to our valued, long-time tax-paying citizens in the case of a parking violation?? Geez...when we meet on the course, I'll gladly cut you some slack on shots (if you need the slack...most seniors'll whoop my butt :-)!!
BTW...THIS IS NOT TO START A FLAME WAR ABOUT IMMIGRATION!!! Just a little Sunday humor ;-)

Hi Bob... I hope you'll come and play! Typical turnout is tough to measure since this will be the Club's first full season. Based on registrations received so far, I would guess we will have between 30 and 50 players at the first event (51 if you play... 55 if you bring some of your golfing buddies!)

Will, The easiest way to Forest Hill GC is to go up HWY 51 through Millington. At the red light of Wilkinsville RD take a left (This is at the corner of Wal-Mart/Blockbuster.) Stay on wilkinsville for several miles (should be less than 5). Take a left on Tate road. GC is 1/2 mile on the left.

HIGH FIVES to Jim and Randy for organizing what looks to be a fun and competitive event, the West Tennessee Cup. Now we just need bensmomma to "rally the troops" with one of her pre-match pep talks.

Well, I figured I would join to meet some new people and hopefully gain a few playing partners, 22 hcp. I've been playing for about 3 years now and see a big improvment in my game, so maybe a few tournaments would be a good learning experience, I usually play alone or with whoever is available at the time.

The Southern Cup Tour is based in Jackson, TN. There was talk in the fall that they may not be active this year, but I think they're still deciding. Definately a good group of guys - we had a blast at the West TN Cup!

Many of you may not know but I am the Tournament Director for the MidSouth Golf Club in Jackson, MS. We currently have four tournaments scheduled with two more to be added. We would surely love for you guys in the Memphis Club area to help us out and play a couple of our events. They so far have been scheduled at some really wonderful courses here in Jackson. Caroline GC, Castlewoods GC, and one in Delphi LA called Black Bear GC and one in Grenada, MS, The Dogwoods. If you guys want more information contact me at: ric@midsouthgolfclub.com or call; 601 992 8710. Please come......and thanks Jim for having us.

I'll be playing out of the Jackson club. Also a couple of my friends will be joining. I'm looking forward to have a group to play with plus new courses to play at. Also, we're planning on playing Memphis events. Hope the Memphis members will come play some of our events so the clubs can grow. We're passing the word around down here.

Jay, I echo your sentiments exactly. Not as cold here in Jackson, MS as is there but I am tired of the brown grass, my game has flown south for the winter as well. Went out the other day and couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle. Now that's bad.
Just to keep everyone updated, the events here in the Jackson, MS area are on some really nice courses, but the one I have scheduled in Delhi, LA is a fabulous course and the one in Grenada, The Dogwoods is a DON'T MISS play. Haven't decided on the format yet but have been toying with the idea of a Ryder Cup style perhaps the Mississippi group vs the Memphis group. Anyone have an opinion on it. Anyway regardless of the format you have got to go play at The Dogwoods. Can't wait for the season to kickoff and look forward to meeting you guys.

Jay, Ditto here, and watching golf on TV does not help things. I'm ready for some of that "global warming" to kick in. Looks like Jim has some very good courses scheduled again this year. Some of the events are away from the immediate Memphis area, but not really that far away and definitely worth the travel. Paris Landing/Tennessean weekend is not to be missed. The Farms and Falcon Ridge are great tracts also, and I am looking forward to the Memphis area courses that will be "new to me". Now I just have to remember which end of the club to hold; it has been a LONG off-season.

Hi Club Members, Did everyone read the new information on the front page of the club site? Jim is offering a free tournament entry if you can help find a financial sponsor for the club. In fact, if you can find a Platinum Sponsor ($2000) you can play free in all events this season! (There are several levels of support and several levels of rewards.) Many of you have business or family friends and other contacts and we are hoping that you will talk to some of them and help the club grow in this manner. More sponsors may mean bigger prize packages or lower entry fees for all. With your help, this club can really grow! Check the web site's front page again for all the details!!!

I realise we're all busy. That being said, we need faster feedback and timely answers to our questions. I work till 3:30 am on Saturdays so I have to take a vacation day on Fridays for most tournaments. I'm sure many people have various other concerns re planning a weekend golf outing especially out of town, ie carpooling, spouses plans, babysitters etc. Not everybody works 8-5 M-F. I have not yet registered for Falcon Ridge because my time off request has not been approved at this writing. However I'm sure it will be so thankfully registration is not closed yet. Thanks for letting me vent.

What a GREAT day at Falcon Ridge. Just ask anyone that played. The course was excellent, the greens were fabulous, and the weather could NOT have been better. Jim has scheduled some hidden gems around the West Tennessee area this year that should not be missed. Still to come are the Farms, Paris Landing and the Tennessean, in addition to some fine courses closer to Memphis. If you have never played these courses, you will not be disappointed. They are well worth the short travel to get there.

The July 7th tournament (Plantation) will be individual stroke play. However, there is a chance that this will be moved from Plantation (I'll know in the next couple of days). If moved, the format will remain individual stroke play. The reason for the possible change is that our start time was moved to the afternoon (2:00).
The Southwind event is not a tournament, just a chance to play the course. It is actually a fundraiser for the Mid-South Junior Golf Associaltion - all proceeds go to them. We can, however, organize a game for our guys who are playing (skins, etc) - we'll wait to see how many we have and then determine if we want to add a game. I'll have registration details available this week.

The event at Southwind, is that cart path only? Last year I played there on a Monday, and they made it cart path only even though the course was totally dry. Was told that most events on Monday are cart path only so they can protect the course for their members.
