I like the idea of getting a lodge on Middle Bass Island. Anyone know of any plans involving a lodge/resort?

The state has talked about putting something on the island eventually - I think.

A lodge on Middle Bass Island would be great, but only if it was a "class act". Keep the architecture matching the old Lonz place, and make sure their are views of the lake from every room.
I'd spend a week.

Does anyone know if there are state park lodges on any of the other islands? Kelleys or South Bass (put in bay)?
Something like they have at Mohican?

What is the situation with the proposed marina? Are people living on Middle Bass Island going to get priority, or can the rest of us have a shot at getting space?
I would hope, since it is state money, that it is first come first serve, with Ohio residents getting a discount.
My husband and I are new to boating, and this sounds like a good opportunity for us.

Just heard a story on NPR on changing bird migrations due to global warming. I fond this on an internet search.
I know the Lake Erie Islands is a major bird migration path - has anyone living there noticed a difference in the birds migrating through your area?

On December 26th, 2006 the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) purchased Honey Point on North Bass Island. This parcel includes a beach and wildlife areas.

I visit the islands every year, and was surprised at how the islanders seem to be against the new marina and Lonz plans across the bay. When I came home I googled the topic and found this.
Everyone else is starting "regional" marketing and joint ventures. I asked our taxi driver about it and he went on and on about how it was going to hurt Put in Bay's business. I also heard someone in a restaurant talking about it.
It seems like nonsense. As an annual tourist I'd like to see more going on, to include the other islands. I don't just come to visit that little bay, but also to experience the whole area. We stop at the farm market on Catawba, we ride around the island and hit the winery, we enjoy the ferry ride, and when I retire I plan on getting a decent size boat. I'd love to spend more time on the island with easier marina access.
I will not be able to afford the luxury of an island house with a dock and a boat, but I will be able to afford a slip for a week a couple of times a year.

So what is the deal with these Villas at Saint Hazards? It seems like a good option for me, but there were water problems when we were visiting, and I was hearing alot of complaints. I can't afford a house or condo, but I'd like an island place where I can hang my own pictures.
Anyone have some inside info?

Just on Middle Bass last month with a friend who has a house - we were shocked at the areas cleared on the state park property. We realized looking at it that it was less forest than overgrown vineyards, but it was still a shock.
What is the deal? Someone said they needed a place for excavated earth from the new marina. Is that the only purpose? Will they be replanting with native trees and shrubs? Are they creating campground areas?

The new marina is in and has had some very, very busy weekends. They were turning people away. The campground will be built on the area now now covered with the fill from the marina. The marina still needs to have the support facilities and water and electric at this point. It's my understanding that the campgrounds will be down the road - nothing immediate. Planning for Lonz Winery is also starting to see life again.
