JB, as long as you are getting your 40 hours, things are OK. If they schedule a CCA and you are not getting 40 hours, grieve it....

Thank you Egark and getting there for the quick responses...I showed that exact same paragraph from the DAS to my steward and he said that because it states "in the same work location" and "On the same tour" that it doesn't mean the PTF gets scheduled first...He said that if the PTF and CCA are scheduled to work on the same day then any boosts will be given to the PTF prior to the CCA as long as the PTF doesn't go over 40hrs. Does that sound right to you?

JB /m8614 -- first, if the PTF works 40 hours in the week, then there is no issue. Then, if the PTF does not work 40 hours, the question is: Were there hours the CCA worked that the PTF was available and didn't work. For example, the PTF works 8AM-2PM, the CCA works 10AM-4PM. The PTF probably could have worked the CCAs last 2 hours. Even if they worked the same hours, say 8AM-2PM, unless there is something time critical, like a collection, you could still argue the PTF could have worked 2 of those hours.

JB....They have to schedule a PTF before a CCA as long as it is straight time. It is in the course of a service week. If you are going over 40 or into overtime they can schedule a CCA..and then a cca is guaranteed their minimum work hours, 2 or 4 depending on size of office....Talk to steward and grieve it.....easy win for you. Hopefully you will make regular soon

Getting there....If I read correctly..The DAS says for those on the same tour...meaning if your both in at the same time they have to give it to the PTF...but what if they don't schedule you and schedule the CCA

gman, I would do what I had to do to make regular. Then you will get your 40 per week. You could be excessed however with low seniority, but if you are a PTF they would cut your hours to nothing before a regular is excessed

JB....DAS award, page 14, states that a PTF will be worked straight time hours prior to utilizing a CCA. it explains it more in detail. If they are not giving you your hours first, file a grievance

I currently work in an office as a PTF...We have 1 regular route and of course the auxiliary route which i run that is approximately 6 hrs...We are currently in the process of hiring a CCA...My question is...Can they work the CCA instead of me on the auxiliary route?

I understand what CCA's go through because I started off as a casual carrier making $8 an hour it is hard to bust your butt while regular carriers complain about not being able to do their route. That is a hard decision to walk away from the Post office but I wish you the best of luck.

The USPS is the only enviroment that rewards hard work with additional work! As a TE earning $22.15 an hour, the juice was worth the squeeze; long hours, worst routes with the addition of take offs that no regular carrier would carry, routes split up on rainy days that consisted of purely walking routes, lack of information or training from managers/supervisors, working 6 days a week, etc. Then, a new arbitration contract that gave a new title, CCA, with a 26% pay cut and the every thoughtful phrase, " do a great job and work harder and you will make regular." Took me several weeks to realize the false hope I had been told was a sham. The harder I worked, the faster I ran from mailbox to mailbox, the working without breaks or taking a lunch, delivery packages on the way home while off the clock, merely resulted in a heavier workload that provided zero benefit for myself and an easier day for any regular carrier who stated, " boss, i cant get my route done in 8 hours, i'm gonna need the CCA to take a 1/3 of my route." I'm not bashing all regular carriers, just the lazy slobs that poison the hard working, dedicated carriers. They know who they are. The United States Postal Service is a sinking ship! Supervisors/Managers make every effort to keep the regulars "happy" while over working the CCA's,(we are the help), but I find it ironic that the "help" is carrying a full route and a take off at a significant lower rate of pay, plus no benefits. My decision today to quit was very easy....I arrived on time, only to discover that my case was not ready and that I would have to finish sticking my route, plus a take off that was wheeled up to my case and gracefully awarded to me. BTW, my full route was 90% business that I ran one time with the supervisor, and he had to call another carrier for guidance. My take off was all business. I should have listened to the old timers when I first started and their advice to slow down, "the faster and harder you work, the more work you will be given". Farewell to the Post Office and The happiness i felt as I drove away and saw the station in my review mirror.

Hi...Looking For Some Advice...I Am ASenior Ptf In My Office With No One Looking To Retire FoR About A Year Or Two. I Am Considering A Transfer To A Smaller OffiCe Where They Have An Open T6 Position. Should I Transfer And Hope To Be Made Regular?

egark is correct, when you transfer your seniority starts all over, doesnt matter if you are a carrier or a T6 carrier
