The day after I took my yellow belt test I tore the muscle in my calf. It felt like someone threw a water bottle at my leg from across the room when it popped.
My advice is that if it's a tear it will hurt for a couple of weeks you can nurse it, keep off it,wrap it, ice it whatever but it will hurt for as long as it will hurt and eventually you'll just have to suck it up and start training. I took almost a month off from training and it still hurt when I got back on the mats. That said there's hurt and there's injured. If it's just a pull it's hurt. if there's a huge black and blue then it's a tear and you are injured. Do not test if you are injured!

...O.K... as for the common cold..Montozuma revenge...leeches...all this... Heres the rule... If it bleeds, drips or pusses in any way...slap red hot steel to it. If it simply aches or swells or in any other way makes training hard... chew it off with your teeth or the teeth of a loved one...continue to train. Otherwise.... suck it up and keep on training. Trust me... I'm a doctor

A few good laughs here lately. But in all seriousness, Instructor Paul is correct. If you are injured, you should not test. I am not referring to an ache or a pain, a "charlie-horse," or some other minor complaint. If you have a pulled muscle, sprain, fracture, tear, or if you are sick with cold or flu--you should not test. There's no point in making the injury worse; that will only prevent you from training. Instead, heal up and wait for the next test.

I didn't expect my comment to spark such a response, but thanks to all for the advise. Ill have you know that I ignored each and every one of you and just asked Doc Fran haha. But the calf is feeling better, still hurts, but i am hurt, not injured, and will test on sunday. Hope to see you all there.

Come out to cheer on your training partners as they test for Yellow belt on Sunday, June 28th. The test begins at 2:00 PM. You are welcome to stay for some or all of the test, and to bring friends and family. It really helps the guys who are testing to hear the support of the 'crowd.'

To those who stood and battled alongside me today, WELL DONE...and to those who came down to cheer us on (and give out some great advice), THANK YOU. And a huge thanks also to the instructors who prepared us, and motivated us, and didn't let us slow down. I hope, and I think, we made you proud.

It was great to see so many people come out to support the guys who were testing. As always, having their friends, family, and training partners come out to cheer them on was a BIG help to the guys. The first test in our new space was crazy-intense (as usual!), and as entertaining as it was impressive. The final results are still in the works, but no matter what the outcome, Atilay, Dan G., Glenn, Paul, Dan D., Nick, Jay, and Zach gave the test 110%.
