Hey Mike, your Level 2 class was a KILLER last night! Probably one of the toughest so far! Awesome physical and mental challenge. The scary thing is I bet you can top it too!

Paul- I had the same reaction to the gun-to-the-head defense shown in the article. The defender has to move his right hand across to his left side and then make an outside redirect against the gun by moving his hand back across to the right? I've seen a few of the Commando Krav Maga techniques against weapons that look great when Moni demonstrates them, but which don't seem to work with attackers that are not static and/or who behave unpredictably.

Great work from John & Kieren in sparring last night. Always great to see the "thinking while fighting" strategies at work. Happy Thanksgiving!
If you go out with Paul & Amy tonight be careful of the guy in the corner.

Thanks for the article....I have to call bullshit on "the Rhino" and the "body assist" demo techniques. Charging in from beyond kicking distance with a palm to the face...not going to be my first choice. the face rakes were a good idea but I think you're going to eat a groin kick moving that from that far away.

In picture one of body assist you can see Mr. Aizik moving his right hand from the left side of the gun over to the right side before he turns his body. I'm sure he can do it fast enough to not get shot but I'm not assuming I can. Our version seems a bit more direct as hands come up and your body turns simultaneously. Splitting hairs? Maybe. What do you think Michael?

Oh and an X block on the knife thrust? There's no real control before he counterattacks.

The upcoming issue of Black Belt features an article on "Commando Krav Maga's" Moni Aizik and some of Commando Krav Maga's defenses against weapons. I have seen a number of his defenses, and looking at these (against knife and gun), I have to say that they seem unnecessarily higher risk than what we learn in Krav Maga. Aizik is an accomplished instructor with a colorful background, and many of the techniques he teaches are just good, fundamental Krav Maga. Some, however, are techniques that seem either to place the defender at greater risk than necessary or to require that the attacker remain more or less static (or at least behave predictably) after the initial threat or attack--something that we all know is completely unrealistic. I'd be interested to know how our members respond to the article. (You can try to get the article through this link-- I'm not sure how long it will be active: http://www.commandokravmaga.com/html/pdf/S..._survival_guide.pdf)
