If a BT ADSL engineer has atteneded the premises and failed to get the connection to work then the line should be marked as not available on the number checker. The precise wording is :-

"Your exchange has ADSL broadband.
However, despite an engineer's visit to your premises it has been proved not possible for your telephone line to support broadband service. Please accept our apologies. We are continuing to look for alternative technology solutions and this site will be updated with developments as
they happen."

If an engineer hasn't visited then issues with household wiring may have been overlooked.

People on very long lines would be well advised to start by ordering Home250 from Zen internet - this uses a lower modem speed and has proven to have greater range.

Just had a phone call, another black hole has emerged. 5 miles East. Paid for subscription to BT broadband, modem delivered, hours wasted trying to connect, money refunded, BT can't deliver. Just checked the phone number of the person on adslguide checker and it is still listed as possibly available. Last number deleted for privacy reasons...
These black holes are all over the place. This person is a small business working from home. They are internationally renowned artists, they are now disadvantaged and will become more so as the years go by and they are left behind.
Looks to me like even when it has been proved impossible the figures remain the same on the database.

chris.

copy and paste from fudge checker today:
For Telephone Number 0152426146X on Exchange BENTHAM

Your exchange has ADSL broadband.

Our initial test on your line indicates that you may be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides 512Kbps or 256Kbps download speed. However, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required, who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Thank you for your interest.

You can have ADSL. It won't work, but...

How many of the official figures are fudged like this?
