Weekend Wrap
Kevin Slowey held the Brewers to three hits in a 5-0 Twins' win Sunday that gave the weekend MDR series to Minnesota.
Slowey out-pitched Milwaukee ace Ben Sheets in the win. The Twins scored all five runs off Sheets and had nine hits overall. Delmon Young paced the Twins with a two-run homer.
Earlier in the series, the Twins won 6-5 Friday on Joe Mauer's homer in the eighth. Manny Parra won his sixth straight for the Brewers in a 5-1 Milwaukee win on Saturday.
The Cubs and White Sox were playing in the ESPN Sunday Night Game. Results of that game will be added to this Wrap on Monday a.m.
The Sox will be going for a sweep of the series, after winning 10-3 Friday on the strength of Nick Swisher's grand slam homer and 6-5 Saturday, as Jermaine Dye and Carlos Quentin homered.
You can read more about all the weekend games by going to the team web sites via MDR links.
Dye Is Player Of Week
The White Sox's Jermaine Dye earned MDR Player of the Week.
Dye homered in the first two games of the series against the Cubs to put his season totals at .306, with 18 homers and 49 RBI. His 18 homers tie him with Carlos Quentin for the team lead. Dye was riding a nine-game hitting streak going into Sunday's game with the Cubs.
Other MDR team Players of the Week included:
** the Brewers' J.J. Hardy, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games and had a couple outstanding fielding plays during the week.
** the Cubs' Derrek Lee, who wrapped up the week with a 5-5 performance against the Sox and has his power numbers up to 15 homers and 51 RBI.
** the Twins' Jason Kubel, who homered in the first two games of the series against the Twins, was tied with Justin Morneau for the team homer lead with 12 and overall was a big part of the Twins' 10-game winning streak that ended Saturday.
Sox, Brewers Win MDR Matchups
Jermaine Dye and Carlos Quentin homered to lead the White Sox to a 6-5 win over the Cubs in the second game of a crosstown rivalry on the South Side of Chicago Saturday.
Bobby Jenks came up with a big save in the ninth, after the Cubs put the tying run in scoring position.
Aramis Ramirez homered for the Cubs, who lost their third straight.
The Sox will now try to record a sweep on Sunday, paying back the Cubs for their sweep last weekend at Wrigley Field.
Meanwhile, in the Twin Cities, the Brewers snapped the Twins' 10-game winning streak with a 5-1 win Saturday night.
Manny Parra won his sixth straight for Milwaukee, pitching seven strong innings. Bill Hall had a key two-run double in the three-run third inning.
Jason Kubel homered for the only Twins' run. You can read more about all the games by going to the team web sites via MDR links.

Swisher, Mauer Homers Key Wins
Nick Swisher's grand slam sparked a seven-run third inning, as the White Sox beat the Cubs, 10-3, Friday in a crosstown game.
Meanwhile, Joe Mauer homered in the eighth inning to give the Twins a 7-6 win over the Brewers in another MDR matchup.
In the Chicago game, Carlos Quentin had three hits for the Sox. Jose Contreras got the win after giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings.
Ryan Dempster took the loss after giving up the big inning. Geovany Soto, Jim Edmonds and Mike Fontenot all hit solo homers for the Cubs.
Mauer's homer was one of seven in that game. Corey Hart hit two for the Brewers. Russell Branyan and J.J. Hardy had one each for Milwaukee.
Alexei Casilla and Jason Kubel homered in addition to Mauer for the Twins.
The Brewers took a 6-3 lead, but the Twins fought back to tie it, 6-6. Mauer then homered off Guillermo Mota for what turned out to be the game winner. Joe Nathan closed out the Brewers in the ninth.
The Twins have now won 10 straight and trail the Sox by a game in the AL Central.
Read more about the game by going to the team web sites via MDR links. A summary of the Brewers-Twins game, set for Friday night, will be added later.
Weekend Preview

Midweek Notebook
Brewers
** RHP Eric Gagne began a minor league rehabilitation assignment Tuesday night with Class AAA Nashville. Gagne has been on the DL since May 21 with rotator cuff tendinitis.
** The Brewers are the only team in the major leagues to have six players with at least 10 home runs.
** RHP Ben Sheets has been strong on the road and at home. In five starts at home, he is 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA. In 10 starts on the road, he is 6-0 with a 2.41 ERA.
** 2B Rickie Weeks, who returned Sunday from a stint on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained knee, put together his first three-hit game of the season Monday in Atlanta. Weeks reached base four times, with two singles, a double and walk.
Cubs
** OF Reed Johnson took a trigger-point injection in his lower back over the weekend to relieve the spasms hes been suffering since a base-path collision last week in Tampa Bay.
** LHP Rich Hill, who was demoted to Class AAA Iowa on May 3, is heading to the Cubs spring complex in Mesa, Ariz., to try and iron out the command problems that have plagued him since spring training.
1B Derrek Lee is coming out of a mini-slump. Lee has a home hitting streak of nine games, going 12-for-37 with three walks, two doubles and three homers during the streak.
C Geovany Soto was 1-for-10 during the three-game series with the White Sox. Its possible manager Lou Piniella will DH Soto in one game against the White Sox over the weekend. Soto DHed twice last week at Tampa Bay, with Henry Blanco catching.
Twins
** NF Matt Macri was returned to Class AAA Rochester despite batting .367 with a home run in 14 games with the Twins. Macri was demoted to make room for INF Nick Punto (hamstring), who returns from the disabled list.
** C Joe Mauer has moved ahead of Bostons Jason Varitek in the balloting for next months All-Star Game in Yankee Stadium. Mauer has 1,178,630 votes to Variteks 1,113,855.
** LF Jason Kubel has a season-best hitting streak of seven games, and has hit in 12 of his last 14 overall. Kubel is batting .367 with four home runs over those 14 games.
** RHP Jesse Crain continued his solid June performance Sunday with a scoreless inning against Arizona. Crain had allowed just one run in nine appearances this month, going into Tuesday.
White Sox
** DH Jim Thome has informed manager Ozzie Guillen that he feels up to playing first base when the team looks to end a four-game losing streak in Los Angeles on Tuesday, but it doesnt sound as if Guillen is budging off the decision he made before the weekend Cubs series.
** 1B Paul Konerko was planning to stay in Chicago and continue his early stages of rehab from a strained left oblique muscle, while his teammates were off to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers.
** OF Brian Anderson will likely start one game against the Dodgers, but Guillen reiterated that Dewayne Wise had been hot and he wanted to ride that out first.
** The farthest Lou ever went to this field was to the pitchers mound. (Friday), he made it to the first base line. Thats the farthest hes ever been there,. said Guillen, upon hearing that Lou Piniella is now saying hes never seen a rat in Wrigley Field, especially in the right-field batting cages, where Guillen said pig-sized ones dwelled.
