Eddie's comments on 'PERSPECTIVE' by Paul Curtis ---------------
Irrespective of perspective, I always TRY to be objective.
In my opinion, there are a few fair comments worthy of elaboration, but nothing that packed a punch where it hurts. I'd prefer to see the piece running more fluently and I'd probably try to expand the subject by analysing each of your examples, enticing the reader into your pondery. I like to read prose that flows smoothly, but also engages the gears of my mind. You could do more to encourage your readers to draw their own conclusions of agreement or disagreement without any fear of confusing personal opinion with perspective. Are we good at war? In retrospect, we may be bad at war - for example, from the point of view of the many women who lost husbands and sons, and never saw life get better.
I find that the best way to practice perspective and objectivity is to take a favourite subject - something you feel really strongly about - and write a few words from every viewpoint apart from own. This also lets you see how to win future drunken arguments as you have already analysed every possible scenario beforehand! :)
You can register on these boards so you can edit previous submissions as often as you like, [most convenient for correcting inadvertent errors], plus, the service then emails you direct with any new comments.
Hope you find my comments thought-provoking, feel free to criticise and don't be worried about offending me - I seldom am. Eddie
