Thanks, Marty. I know a trip to Ireland would be good for me. The reason I haven't gone is not because of a lack of desire. :-) And it could be a tax deduction.

It's rare to get any feedback from an editor. He does think I write quite well (his words) but what they want to publish now is different from what I'm doing, and that's just business. Thankfully I have my agent who is the one who will give advice. His advice right now: take a few days to pray about it, and I am.

Yes, a guide to CC for those who don't understand it, but want to, is in a nutshell one of my proposals that did not find a home.

And you're right. I have to keep on flowing his His River of Life, and remember that I'm not rowing! As always I greatly appreciate your prayers and all the others here. Have a good weekend.

I think a trip to Ireland would be good for you! (in better weather!) You can probably declare it a tax exemption for work research?! It will give you a 'feel' for the place and let you hear the soul of the land. Its different being there, my son has forever been changed for it.

As for the publisher, we'll all be in prayer for you, as ever. Hopefully, he may have some good suggestions for you as well? A new direction? How about a primer on converting to CC? (hehehe) Nothing else out there explains that!

In any case, always remember that God has a specific purpose for your skills. Just continue to flow in His River of Life and see what He does with them!

Birds, actually. Something besides swans. I'm trying to learn more about the natural habitat there. I have a book (well, several books) but I'm not finding enough information so far. Hey Lillian,

In Newell's 'Celtic Treasure' he organizes the prayer services in much the same fashion as you mentioned. In both 'Celtic Benediction' and 'Sounds of the Eternal', if you read the entire devotional, you'll see a thread running though it but unstated in a title.

Here's an idea for you, would you like to share some of your favorite prayers from 'Carmina Gadelica' with us? Usually I wait for the traffic to die down, never a problem, and then share something as the Lord speaks it to me. If you find something that impresses you, please feel free to share it here! This is a family room!

-hmmm. I guess I see that. I certainly knew about the trinity growing up but they were rarely spoken of together. You never really imagined them in fellowship. I think that's what I like about the Carmina Gadelica, that and the beautiful little descriptions they put with them, like Spirit of gentleness or King of life.

Lillian - in my own upbringing, the Trinity was simply a part of the understanding of God's Nature. It was inherently accepted and expressed in the forms of 'three's. Sometimes Father, Son and Hold Spirit were mentioned but most times inferred by the triple praises. While I'm very grateful to Carmichael for preserving the prayers from his own time, they do reflect the theology of the ones he collected it from. If the source was a religious, it would reflect the thinkings in theological forms. The more common prayers (pray-ers) would simply incorporate themselves and their daily chores into the awareness of the love and harmony of the trinity. Their prayers always expressed the awareness of belonging.

While I use 'Sounds of the Eternal' and 'Celtic Benediction' here most often, he does have other prayer books. I have 'Celtic Treasure' and another one I cannot recall offhand but they are more oriented to group worship with responsorial prayers, not the personal devotions of the other two. That prayers are presented in 'threes' is quite obvious but the use of the word Trinity is not so frequent as you mentioned. Its just understood to be there!

Perhaps its the mindset of the Irish not to discuss the things that are just 'understood'? Part of our humor is understatements!! The deep feelings (such as love) are rarely mentioned.. they are simply accepted and appreciated. No need to discuss what is already understood! In Newell's prayers, he is well within that mindset. The 'threes' say it all!

I know it is popular with other sects in Christianity to use certain words or phrases to join members in a common bond. Prayers of Evangelicals love the word 'Jesus', even to the point of dramatizing it at times. Catholics and Orthodox are fond of incorporating 'Mary' or the 'theotokos' into theirs. Pentecostals are always fond of referring to the 'Holy Spirit' or the word 'leading' (reference to following the Spirit). Celts are fond of praying in threes! I feel Newell captured that well in his prayers. God is just the Source that is always with us and we ourselves exist as a trinity within Him!

Of course, this is just my take on it. Perhaps some others might care to share their thoughts as well...?

Martin, I like Newell's prayers; but, in comparison with the Carmina Galdelica, he rarely mentions the trinity. Why do you think this is?

Good to hear from you. We rejoice in your successes! Ummm.. perhaps we didn't explain fully but the 'dark night of the soul' is not really just one night! Its a journey! So don't be surprised by setbacks, that's normal, but the journey will continue to completion soon.

As for Steve, whatever the Lord tells you to do.. that's what you have to commit to doing and don't look back or around. You are not here to restore or put aside your marriage. You are here to serve Him in the plan He has for the both of you and Bella. We're beside you but don't even mind us.. just keep walking on the path. May God bless you richly in this...

Hey all! i am just asking for a little extra prayer today. i am trying to find a new job still and havent heard anything back from any of the places i've applied. i really want to bring in a larger income b/c i want to have financial independance and get out of debt.

I'm at a stalemate with steve. he is so twisted and confused that i have determined to not persue him anymore right now, but we arent filing for divorce just yet either. we're just pretending like we're only friends for a while. Keep that in your prayers as well.

i've been doing pretty good since last saturday. no crying really, maybe a lone tear once or twice, but no real crying. havent felt the need to! if that holds up until tomorrow, it'll be my first week without a breakdown! that's huge for me! GOD is really sustaining me right now. i keep praying for joy and peace in my soul and i am FEELING His answer.

thank you all SO much for all your support and thoughts in this dark time of my life. you have been so uplifting and so wonderful. i am just SOO blessed!

I think in the Autumn we tend to get reflexive about the hectic past seasons and contemplate the coming of Winter. I find myself settling down a bit now as a look out at the changing colors around me. Here is something from tonight's devotional from Newell's 'Sounds of the Eternal', Thursday Night Closing Prayer that I found in that same mode.

Closing Prayer

As earth requires rest
and the seas need time to be replenished,
so in resting may I be made more alive,
so in stillness may my creativity be born anew.

Bless me in the night, O God,
that I may wake refreshed.

With your ministering messengers of sleep
bless me in the night.

Perhaps its a harvest time within as well as without...
