Fear not, my friend. We always have good directions!!!!! And you can recognize Jeb by his drawing on Meet Team Batgirl.
And we're okay, for now, on the web stuff--my guy thinks he can fix it! If there are problems, I'll let you know.

Yes. As soon as my web guy does the upgrades, which he says he'll do in the next couple of days, we're going to try to move it back. If they don't work, we can't move it until the next release of Movable Type, in July, but we're thinking this will work!

Batgirl, are there any plans to move the game thread back to bat-girl.com? I know this is the least of your worries, but I can't access QuickTopic from work, so I don't ever get to read the game thread until late, late at night. (A very critical problem, don't you think?)

I went to TWO! It was that series at the end of April, the one that we swept even though we mostly played like ass-crap. Plus, it was the coldest it's ever been, or at least close, in K.C. that week, so the games were a bit miserable. But even miserable Twins baseball is better than no Twins baseball at all.

Alskn, I don't think anyone really doubts that Bartlett is a better hitter. But he's been in a hitting slump for what seems like a long time, which is probably tougher on a rookie than a veteran. I can see the logic in him riding the pine for a bit.

If I were him, that would crush me. He's been decent in the field, all that we asked of him. He's also hitting better than Castro (the stats don't lie) and about equal to Guzman last year... and he's slumping, so yeah, I'd be upset if I were him and they benched me or sent me down. He's not doing THAT bad.

don't put this in the conspiracy category but my guess on the change in primary player between Bartlett and Castro probably has more to do with maturity and mental experience.
I think that Bartlett was letting the situation get to him - an easy thing to happen for a young player - so Gardy is going with the guy who has more experience for now.
I love all our boys and like the fact that we have enough depth to handle these situations because they do happen.
Isn't it great to see the guys goofing off in the dugout and having a good time?? Baseball should ALWAYS be enjoyed.

Sara, what's up?
I am not a Minnesotan either, but being in Wisconsin I firsthand saw the fight by the Brewers to get what became Miller Park. It was quite a battle, the legislation passing by one vote (and that legislator was recalled and lost his seat). They tax a 5 county area around Milwaukee, to the amount of 1/10 of 1%. When I am in Milwaukee, I never notice that miniscule amount of tax that goes to pay of the stadium. Honestly, you will never notice it, and the Twins get to get a much better stadium and more revenue to retain more players.

Nick -- That word is schadenfreude. Yay for things I learned from the Simpsons.
CapitalBabs -- When the earlier stadium plans were proposed, I didn't like them for the same reason, that the money was better spent on things already getter short shrift, like education. But that's why I like this plan so much. It's not state money. It's not money that should go to fixing our schools. It's money spent by the people most likely to lose if the Twins leave town.
But again, I'm not a Minnesotan, so it's really not my argument. That won't, however, keep me out of the debate. :)

I'm sure angry. I think he's a cheapskate and an S.O.B. and I will never forgive him for this. I think he's been terrible about the stadium issues. I think he should pay for a retractable roof. But I also think this stadium proposal is going to be the one that gets it done, so let's get it done.
That said, I think the people who are angriest about the contraction thing are Twins fans, and that it's not necessarily Twins fans who are talking about subsidizing a billionaire.

Good point, Fran. I'm still pissed about the attempted contraction too. I suppose one could view this as rewarding Pohlad for his bad behavior, and thus providing an incentive for such behavior in the future.
But, should we let our anger get in the way of evaluating what's in our own best interests? I contend we should not. (And I realize, of course, that reasonable people can differ on what's in their best interests.)

Sorry, Nick. The anger is well-earned and very rational.
If it had been up to Carl, the team would have been contracted. The only reason the Twins exist for us to watch tonight is because of a court judge. That can't be so easily whitewashed or forgotten.

I have avoided talking about the stadium issue due to my job but let me say a couple short comments and then I will return to my non-commenting back-of-the-room habit.
a) stadium is better than no stadium so you get what will PASS b) it's not TAX that gets people's undies in a bunch or they would be upset over this proposal - which they aren't c) it's the State putting money into RECREATION when budgets are barely maintaining or being cut left and right for more essential state services. Yes, you and I know how the business side works but is a stadium more important than education? transportation?
It basically comes down to priorities and the people who have the really hard calls to make have said - listen, we are going to use what resources we have elsewhere. We love the idea of this being built but you will have to find the money yourself.
So, Hennepin Cty did. And that is why I said early on that this proposal had the best chance of any bill I have seen in the last 7 years. It shows that they are cognizant of the issues here and realize that it all boils down to Item A on the list: Stadium is better than no stadium.
Ok.. I will now bow out and let y'all debate.

I'm glad you folks agree. And even though nobody disagrees so far, I think I can state my argument with a bit more clarity.
A rational person is for the stadium if the marginal costs to that person are greater than the marginal benefits. Though this sounds simple enough, the costs and benefits will vary by the person's values. For example, if a person is so personally offended by subsidizing a billionaire that he can't live with himself, the costs of this stadium would be high to that person.
Of course, people are free to feel how they want to about subsidizing the rich. But I believe it's irrational to feel so strongly about it. I forget what the German word is for being happy about another's failures (it came up in a discussion on Batgirl about the Yankees), but this seems to be a variation on that. Which is to say, people feel angry about the success of another, without regard to the personal costs and benefits of the issue. When viewed in this light, the anger some people feel toward subsidizing Carl Pohlad seems both wrong and irrational.

It's times like these -- when the stadium issues come up -- that I really wish I lived in Minnesota so I could be an activist for it. I understand why people are wary of paying for a stadium, especially when MLB has exhorted money out of so many cities. ("You give us money, or we'll pull your team. We mean it this time!") But the Twins obviously need it, and it's just not that much money. The benefit of a new stadium won't just go to Pohlad. It'll go to the whole state.

It is subsidizing a billionaire in some sense, I agree. And, though I'm not how you feel on the issue, Fran, it's also subsidizing the state's economy, if that makes any sense.
My guess is that the majority of the people in the state would say the Twins are worth this tiny amount. If we assume that to be true, then the stadium is simply the rational choice. Subsidizing a billionaire ought to be wholly irrelevant to the analysis.

I don't think anyone is afraid of the tax. It's the subsidizing a billionaire thing that is the hang-up. The Twins are certainly worth three cents on $20.
But it's still subsidizing a billionaire, no matter how the billionaire's underlings try to spin it.

Agreed, Scotty. If we're going to subsidize, say, the arts, there's no reason not to subsidize the Twins a bit. It'll be well worth the 3 cents I pay for every $20 spent in Hennepin County.
In other news, it's time to put away the ass-bats.

and the Twins dont give enough economic value for .03 out of $20? Everyone needs to get off that "subsidizing a billionare" stuff. Lets get a grip. If the Twins were to leave, what would be the economic loss to the State? LOTS. What would be the economic loss to Fre the peanut guy? MUCH. This makes sence for the State of Minnesota, as well as all baseball fans in the Nort.
