My first met period was very light. My next one was extremely heavy, like the one you describe. It is interesting, though, that I had to go off met for awhile and when I went back on it, I didn't get my period on my own nor did I ovulate without the help of clomid. Every woman is different and if you haven't had a period in awhile that would explain the heavy bleeding. If it doesn't stop about about 10 days, you should probably call your doc so that you can get provera or prometrium to finish the bleed. --Christina

Christina,
I have another question for you. You know both of our histories are almost exactly the same. So I was wondering, when you first started the Metformin and got your first period that next month was it a light one or a bad one. Reason I am asking is I have not had many periods in my lifetime but this one is not like any period I have ever had. I have really bad cramps and heavy bleeing. It also came on really fast where the ones I have had in the past gradually came one over a couple of days. But was just wondering if you remember how your was. Also thank you so much for making this site. Your entire web page has inspired me and given me so much hope. Thank you so much! :)

Well some good news here. I started Metformin on March 23 of last month and this morning when I got off work I came home went to the bathroom and YIPPPPPEEEE YAHOOOOOO I got my period for the first time in a long time. I am so excited and feel so good. LOL never thought getting your period could be this exciting. My next goal....Ovulating. Hope you all have a wonderful day and I would love to hear any news from others.

Got the address to work. I am forwarding the link to everyone in my address book. This is a "chain letter" worth starting and passing on. Hopefully it will lead to increased awareness and understanding of PCOS.

Tried to sign the petition but it keeps coming up that there is an internal server error.

Hi all,

There is an online petition calling for our legislators to investigate PCOS, fund further research for PCOS and change insurance policies to better understand and treat PCOS for all women. I am seeking a minimum of 1000 signatures from each state and would like everyone to encourage their treating medical professionals, support groups, family and friends with PCOS to sign on to the petition, as well.

Help make change, sign on today!

Maybe you should give your doc a call. To me, it sounds like your metablic profile is changing, which is a very good thing, but your doc might have a better idea about what is going on and what to expect next. --Christina

I remember when I first got my dose upped to 2000mg. I don't remember how long after my dose was upped but I did have breast tenderness, bloating, and bad cramps for several days. I thought for sure... finally the med's are working. But menses never came. The symptons started again the following month and again for a third but...no menses no pregnancy. Hopefully things will turn out better for you since you weigh significantly less than myself.

Was wondering if anyone experience breast tenderness when taking Metformin. I have been taking 2000mg a day now for 3 1/2 weeks. I have not gotten a period yet but I noticed last week that my breast were tender and felt like I was going to have a period. (cramping, holding water, and craving sweets for a few days) That went away and still no period but my breast are still tender. Did anyone else notice these symptoms or side effects? Also I have lost 6 lbs since starting the medicine. Now I am down to 157lbs

Just got back from the endocronologist. My total testosterone went from a 14 in January to a 13. My free testosterone went from 7 in January to a 6. Looked up normal rates on-line total 12.8, free 1.20. I'm alomst there as far as total but have a way to go on free. MD said I am at the max for med's (2000mg Glucofage XR & 200mg Aldactone). Only dropped 1 pound in three months. Said weight loss is the key.(like I haven't heard that before). She also gave me a prescription for Vaniqa (for facial hair) and I am going to take Provera 10mg. for 10 ten days to bring on menses. Bike exercise was going good until I got this chest cold. Going to keep doing the herbs, vitamins and carob powder. Go back to MD in July.
