Well, here I am volunteering.. I'm not the world's best web designer, but I know a little itty bit..
The idea of a coordination web site came because a couple of months ago I responded to a call for volunteers to design a site for a local homeless organization (
http://www.opportunitycenter.org). There were something like ten volunteers, but the project had no structure. We had a terrible time meeting, and finally, the only way the site got put up was when I just sat down and wrote something ugly and terrible in HTML.. Once that was up, everyone was able to play around quite a bit more.
I thought about how much easier it would have been to have been able to coordinate things in an online forum--any specialized requests for developers could have gone out with a link to the forum. It would have given us a place to coordinate meetings, or to just split up work, to find out the experience level of the people involved, and to get a good, accurate contact list up.
Although writing this site would probably be out of the range of my knowhow, hopefully we could find someone who did know, and I can learn.
