Thanks for the comment, Steve. I've more of the Bill Russell quote on http://www.deepfun.com/russell.html -- just in case you wanted to read it in context. I think this "magic" thing is at the heart of what makes work fun -- something about an opportunity we sometimes grant each other, an opportunity for becoming "larger than life." I first noticed it in improvisational theater (generally during rehearsals, when we were doing it only for each other), and have since pretty much dedicated my life to recreating it.

I read your piece yesterday, Bernie, and found that the quote from Bill Russell was one of the first things to enter my fuzzy head this morning. It's a very powerful image.

There are meetings like that -- rare gems. They move at a pace that requires constant attention and the muting of ego -- or maybe the egolessness is a prerequisite, or happens along the way. That kind of experience, where something is built that's larger than the sum of individuals, is the best of the business world for me.
