Hey Joe,
Dwight Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton. All elected on "throw the bums out."
Cheers.

I read it, Candace - my vote went to Ray Charles. We had a minor shortage of the correct type of pen at our precinct, which made the wait a minute or so (not long) Still, overall, a very efficient process.
Candace, tell everyone at Borders I said Hi! I started out there as a holiday staffer and worked my way up fairly quickly; it's a good job if you can be flexible with your hours.

Except for Carter, an improvement over the prior office holder.

My sincerest thanks to all of the poll workers who make it possible for all of us to vote. I enjoy seeing the regulars and the new faces at Oakton School every year at about 7 a.m.
I thought that the touch-screen electronic voting was very simple. The entire process, including voting for judges with the Vote Smart Guide from the Chicago Bar Association, took about 10 minutes. I even printed the paper ballot to review my selections and it worked perfectly.

I am new to the board so I am not sure if there have been previous discussions on the future of the old Osco site at the intersection of Oakton and Asbury. I just returned from Berkeley, where I lived for ten years before moving to Evanston 18 years ago. One of my most favorite places there is a small corner area, not unlike where the old Osco was, that is in an area of town that had little to brag about. Alice Waters (from Chez Paniss (sp?)) opened a small cafe/restaurant there, and not long after that a bakery sprung up on one side of the cafe and wine store on the other. It is a wonderful little corner that offers high quality products (both the Bakery and Fanny Cafe make and sell breads, cereals, and other baked goods to stores in the Bay area). I think it would be great to bring to South Evanston something of the same nature that can draw neighbors together and bring something more aesthetic than a chain drug store or something similar to the neighborhood.

Shani: I do not follow your timeline, but I like you idea for an innovative use of the location. There has been QUITE a bit of talk about the space. Many are disheartened that Trader Joe's did not take the space. Latest development is a Produce Market. But doing business in Evanston aint cheap and finding a business like you describe is not an easy task!

Shani give us names. Great ideas but it is difficult to make people invest in any corner. I spoke last to Village Produce on Dempster. The owner told me if the space were 20,000 sf he'd be there but it is half that. Said he just loved the building, especially the facade and location but too small. We are looking for names - give them up and we will go after them.

Lowell,
Clinton made seeming progress because he did not control Congress and had to come to the center. Hopefully with both houses narrow nothing will get done and that is progress.

Lowell Look at debt as % of GDP not just in terms of dollars.
No war with Iraq or anything against terrorists because Clinton administration did nothing. What about Darfur, etc?
