Just so you can't say that your alderman never gives you useful information, 20,000 pounds of explosives have been stored in our ward for the evening. Yes, we have been entrusted with the firfeworks for the night.

Just a note of caution:
I'm always a little worried when I seen unattended construction sites, and the new parking lot process at Oakton School did not look very safe to me when I passed by today. The whole construction area is only enclosed by a yellow ribbon, and the big hole has nothing but a plastic fence around it. It doesn't look really dangerous, but I would alert parents this holiday weekend to watch children at the school park and playground extra closely and perhaps to not send even older kids there alone. There's a large piece of construction equipment just begging to be climbed on, and the hole is filled with very tempting sand.

So...where does everyone plan to see the fireworks? We usually go to South Blvd. beach and probably will again this year. What about you?

Vito - who couldn't notice what you write? You are so impressed with your own baffle garble!
If you have a problem with something place it on the appropriate board. This board has not been spammed but for disgusting comments by you in the deleted message below.
In the several years I have owned these boards there have been 25 spam posts on the 14 boards that I oversee. If anyone finds this too offensive they should unsubscribe. I do monitor several times a day and if you do not subscribe you probably will not be offended by the spam, which by the way is usually undecipherable or a sales pitch for a know nothing scam.
Given these statistics there is really no spam problem given the trillions of tries made by the spammers.
All 25 posts would have been thwarted were I to require a registration for posting. I won't do that for all. And - yes, Bernard, of course I ban the IP adresses of every spam poster.

Ann, I meant to add that obviously you monitor the boards and delete the spams right away, but as you know, those of us who get the messages sent direct to our emails get them automatically regardless of how quickly they're deleted. Happy Fourth everyone!

Vito wasn't talking about any of us. I've seen 4-5 "go to this site it's great" spams posted on the Landlord board in the past week. We get them occasionally on the Harvard Terr. board. I just hope this doesn't start to be a regular attack on Q Topic boards. I must delete 45 spam emails a day from my work email address. That doesn't count the ones I'm able to automatically filter. It's a plague.

/m16769Vito, the administrator of a Quicktopics' board (or just about any board) has the ability to remove spam (one at a time) though it's usually easier to block an e-mail addresses or URL. Those are usually the most effective way of addressing spammers.

Ann,
Notice that I used the plural "boards" not just this one. On some of the other boards someone is putting spam.
To assume is to blunder.

I know the downtown Farmers' Market isn't in our ward, but I'm hoping someone here can tell me -- is there a market this Saturday, July 4? I can't find anything on the City of Evanston web site to indicate that it is canceled, but it sure would make sense if it was. Does anyone know?
Thanks!

Hi all, The permit for the Clyde Avenue block party I submitted was approved. The party will be on Sunday, July 12 - 1:00-6:00pm. All of you residents of the Great 8th are cordially invited. I will need your help spreading the word and organizing a few things: we need to set up several grills throughout the block, assign who brings what kind of food and we need coolers with ice. Lots of ice! Email me at ogaguse@gmail.com and mention what you can bring and where in the block you will be. EDOT (Evanston Division Of Transportation) will drop barricades that I will place in the following places for the duration of the party: - 2 barricades at Brummel Street - 1 barricade each at the two alleys north of Howard Street - 1 barricade at Howard Street My request to allow alcoholic beverages to be consumed at the party has been approved. Please remember that the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited under current city ordinances. The Evanston Police Department and the Evanston Fire Department will visit us at the party. The EFD will hold a fire safety prevention event for the children and will have a fire engine on display. This will surely be a great afternoon and a great chance to get to know your neighbors better. Steve will also be joining us. See you then.
