OK...that Tennyson recording has to be the spookiest thing I've heard lately. I alternated between ROFLMAO and having a chill run up my spine (that whole "from beyond the grave" feeling...eerie). Very interested to know what a wax cylinder is though...?

I had a rough time not adding some of the greatest hits albums such as the Depeche Mode: Singles cds or Soundgarden: A-Sides. The only one that I couldn't help but add was the Alice in Chains. I actually compiled the list online while sitting here so I'm sure I've forgotten one or two and will be mad at myself later.

That's a great list, Nathan. I think I prefer Days of the New I, but as I've mentioned before on the site I love The Sickness (sorry, Bob Mike, I know that makes me tragically unhip — but give it a listen some time). The more people mention it, the more I'm sure that Throwing Copper should have been on my list. Jagged Little Pill is such a definitive college album for me — lots of memories. And, of course, In Utero, Ten, and Yield are fantastic, I just couldn't bring myself to have half the songs on my list by two acts. :-)

You are correct on both counts; language is a clumsy tool, and Lost in Space is a terrible movie. In other "funny moments with language" stories, my friend Lorien (who has been studying German at Berkeley for the past several years) became very upset when she walked past a newspaper whose headlines called for "kinder executions".

Hey Josh, just thought you should know, you listed The Way We Talk twice on your recently read books, once at the beginning and once at the end. Did you read it twice? Yeah, I'm a jerk for bringing it up on the forum, but we're all friends here, right? RIGHT? Ho boy.

Whoa, nice catch. It was Nunberg's second book that I just read, not his first book again. I highly recommend both; I think he's one of our foremost current thinkers.

Yeah, I've been playing since Beta. I played through Ice Age, then was out for Homelands and Alliances, back for Mirage and Visions, then out again until the Urza's cycle, when I was heavily back into it, then out, then back for Judgment, then out, then back about a year and a half ago and playing since.

I don't really play competitively. I played a couple of unsanctioned tournaments at the convention at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California during Mirage Block, and that's about the extent of my formal experience. I have a DCI number but don't really use it. I play non-P9 (with the exception of my lone Mox) Type 1 almost exclusively. I have 21 decks at the moment, not counting the three I have built for my wife and the precon I got for Christmas, and play weekly or twice weekly -- but I'm not drafting or anything right now.

Were you a Type 1 player at all?
