Welcome to the new discussion forum. Hopefully this will give opportunity for a variety of issues and topics to be discussed in a more accessible way.

There is talk of a Bingley weekend in 2005 for students who attended 1971 - 1977. Sat 12 Feb has been mentioned as a possibility. Ideas and suggestions welcome please.

I wonder if anybody can remember what the final weeks or days were like at Bingley College when it was eventually wound up. It must have been very bittersweet for some of the lecturers who had been there many years? And of course the ancillary staff and students.

Anybody remember Neville Coghill, singing 'My brother Sylvest'. I bet he still does it?

Is there anyone out there who went to Bingley College between September 1972 to 1975?

I knew a few people who were then, one I am still in Contact with, Margaret Johnson she was then, is now Margaret Scott, with one son, called Rowan.

I did Music while I was there and did know someone called Phil, and Sally Newberry. Some of us had piano lessons with John Briggs; remember him?

I live in Lecestershire now but would like to have contact with people from those days.

Hi Barbara
I was at Bingley from 72 to 75 and it was the best time of my life. I was a P.E. woodentop who preferred outdoor pursuits and Geography. I used to love the ethos of the place and the wierd activities that went on. I am very ashamed that I did not mix much more as I dont recall many names from those 3 years. Probably many students dont remember me although they will remember the clock tower Christmas tree episode. My claim to fame!

Just had our little reunion of 40 years. Lynn Wiggan ne Broxham; Jackie Ancel ne Dent; Janis Ibbotson ne Nunns; Andrea [of 4 marriages fame] ne Middleton; Maureen Crompton ne ? can't remember that --she'll kill me!!! But she married Stephen Crompton -also at the college. Six of us turned up out of our group of 9.

We were at Bingley from 1968-1971. We had a very pleasureable stay at Oakwood hall and spent the weekend 'down memory lane'. I was in Hild [ground floor R18] during my 1st year with 2 other girls -Linda Trigg [Triggles] and Lynne Whithead. Our window was always kept open for those to use after the 11 pm curfew. So ---many shadowy figures wobbled past my bed during night! Can you imagine doing that today! It just seemed par for the course then. I remember strolling along the basement to the sounds of 'Hey Jude' which was a hit during that year. It always bring back a lovely warm feeling when I hear that song. The freedom of being away from home.

We all remembered how many lectures we missed rather than how many we attended too!! Bingley pub crawl --drinking pints --very racy for the day --it always got us a free drink or 2 cos local men were 'right impressed'! Most of us hitched home --me to Swansea others to various places -we took some risks and had some near misses too!! But live to tell the tale.

So many tales, so many memories, what a place! Very special. The famous hill --piling into mini cabs when too lazy or drunk or, for those [not to mention any names!!] who often missed the early morning coach from their 'digs'! Wonderful life!
