Ohh! I forgot... Jackson offered the girl, that falsely accused the Duke players a full ride to a University on him..... Do you think he will pay up now? Or even comment on his own words?

It is embarrssing to see what the media has allowed to happen to the I-man! Where is Rev. Jackson's and Bottom Feeder Sharpton's apology to the Duke Lacrosse players being wrongfully accused. They were on the first horse down to NC prosecuting those students on here say. Screaming NAACP!!!

What he said was not right, and it was not warranted, but he has been saying things to shock you forever. This is not the worst thing he has said on the air! The fact is that the media hung him out to dry and there are bigger forces pushing that wave. Imus has been publicly bashing the Bush administration on many different topics. One being the military hospitals! He brought that story to full media coverage. He is consistently questioning all that the Bush Admin. has been up to, during this pathetic Presidency.

He should not have said it and that was his mistake. The powers that be have been waiting for him to screw up. Once they saw the opportunity they came pouncing. Martin Luther King spoke for 10 minutes, and we had to listen to this Rutgers Women's Basketball coach ramble for an hour. This is not about the team. This is not about what he said. This is about the WANT to control our media and control what we are exposed to. The writing is on the wall.... Big brother is watching people!

I have just watched a very pleasant lady make a plea for those who seve us in shops, gas stations, etc.

I wholeheartedly support her suggestion that we treat those in the sevice industry with respect - I do! Yet, they can be extremely rude to me. I think there should be a plea from customers such as me, to expect a welcome, a genuine desire to serve and, a heartfelt 'have a nice' day. It could make a world of difference to those of us who have respect for another human being.

Did not get the address where I can enter the sign-off for Katie Couric.
Is it too late?

Thank you for watching the Evening News. It's your world.

Thanks to Andy Rooney for the timely reminder about the "military/industrial complex" What great things this country could achieve if we spent some of those vast sums we waste on the military on health care, housing for the poor and education. Will we ever learn? I know that at times you feel like a voice in the wilderness, but please keep on screaming.

The Contra Costa Times, a California newspaper has stepped into the CBS silliness, asking readers to send in their opinions on selection of Katie Couric to be the next CBS News anchor.

Basically, the readers pounded the newspaper for such glib stupidity, one letter writer called the Contra Costa times "anal"!

Intellectual insult

What do we think of Katie Couric being named anchor of CBS news? What kind of topic is this? An illustrious award-winning paper and you throw out this deep, profound question for the readers in Contra Costa County?

Who really cares about Katie Couric's employer? Of all the issues that could be discussed, you think Katie Couric's change of employers warrants serious discussion? You give a new meaning of the word "anal."

Thanks for the intellectual insult.

Unworthy topic

Isn't it a sad commentary on our culture when despite an ongoing global war, worldwide natural catastrophes, illegal immigration facing many of the world's economically advantaged countries and the apparent crumbling of California's freeways (and Legislature) we choose to devote space to debate Katie Couric's CBS appointment?

As an avid reader of the Times editorial page, might we please find a more relevant topic?

Who watches?

Who cares? Who with half a brain watches network "news?" CBS is finally admitting it views news as entertainment.

You have 52 Forum topics a year, and you just wasted one when you could have asked something like, "What do you think of Bush's plans to bomb Iran?"

Historic event

In her new position, Katie Couric will be the first solo female anchor for a major network's nightly news. This is historic.

We are quick to take television to task for its portrayal of women as vapid or valuable only for their beauty. Couric will provide a role model of a strong, intelligent, relevant woman on television night after night. And that is certainly worth taking notice.

Not important

You want to know what I think of Katie Couric being named anchor of CBS news.

Why do I have to think about Katie Couric or about her anchoring the news? Is she going to recite different news than other news anchors or broadcast channels?

Is there an importance to her doing this job that means something to me or anyone else other than CBS news?

Couric and the hype around her new overpaid job is irrelevant in the scheme of life.

What's going on?

What is a Katie Couric and where does one, if one wanted to, find CBS news?

Another event

Hearing that Katie Couric will anchor the CBS Evening News starting in May, I wonder if it's the same day that the Livermore Farmers' Market reopens.

Luminescent talent

If I weren't so happily married, I would be dreaming of Katie Couric, a bright, luminescent talent and absolute sweetheart. Anchoring, though? A fish of another stripe. Granted, I'm just your average working stiff, not making the megabucks of TVmoguls who divine ratings. Nevertheless, after a hard day's night, I favor gravitas over effervescence in my main course TV news, though Keith Oberman makes for great news dessert.

I disdain stodginess and waxing unduly romantic about everything past. I decidedly want women to break the Big-Three anchor barrier and genuinely admire charismatic, plucky Couric for her genius at info-entertainment, but in a troubled world I feel more reassurance from the hallowed likes of Edward Murrow, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley and Walter Cronkite.

Yet, even the likes of Presidents, Harry Truman for one, have surprised us and themselves by facing extraordinary challenges and rising to extraordinary heights. Break a leg at CBS, Katie.

I'm rooting you grow into the role and conquer your new mountain. I may yet stop pining for the days of "good night and good luck" and "that's the way it is."

Nothing against perky

"What do I think of Katie Couric being named CBS anchor?"

1. This can't be a serious topic for opinion and discussion.

2. If it is, in which case Les Moonves has scored a positive coup for the network and people are thirsty for impartial, fact-driven, keenly analytical reportage.

3. And it doesn't matter which as long as the ratings improve.

4. Please do not infer from this that I have anything against "perk."

CBS made mistake

As a CBS evening news viewer for many years, I think the people at CBS have lost their minds over hiring Katie Couric; she is no Barbara Walters. I watch the news to keep up on important events, not to watch some bubblehead.

I almost quit watching CBS when they let Dan Rather go. I was shocked when John Roberts wasn't hired to replace Rather.

When Bob Schieffer took over, until a permanent replacement was hired, I thought John Roberts would then be taking over, since he was rightfully the one who should. I couldn't believe it when I heard Couric would be hired. That was the last straw.

I think Schieffer is a good reporter, but when he goes, I'm gone. My family will be watching NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.

CBS lost a wonderful news person in John Roberts. I hope he does well at CNN, where he is now.

Cuteness counts

Katie Couric -- cuteness counts, from America's conscience to Gunga Din to Miss Perky.

Lets hope that Couric can put the C back in CBS. Dan Rather provided the BS.
