Now I'm mad. I cannot conceive of why I didn't know of your blog before. Sheesh! Guess I'll count my blessings...I've found it now. Had an email this morn--I think they're nuts, but...--saying bin Laden is in China and we're working a secret deal with the Chinese to get our hands on him before the election. Hope you're able to keep up with the incredible hostility going on here re. this election. Tell you what, I'm increasingly glad I voted by mail this time even though the polling place is just a couple of blocks away. Take care over there.

Thanks for your updates. My husband is a Marine in Lima Company. Although sometimes I'd rather not know the particulars, it's comforting to read updates from someone who is there, too. Please stay safe.

Hi Kevin! Now I know where you have been!! What's up with that John Meceda? He looks like he's either lost or just came out of a coma. He reminds me of our local weather forecaster. I'm really disgusted that anyone in the armed forces over there has anything but the best equipment!! When my brother, who is in the Navy, told me his sign on bonus was taxed, I almost died. His $5,000 turned into $3,000. He also has $260.00 or $270.00 a month taken out of his pay for food. If he's on a "watch" or working his 2nd shift job on base, he misses his meal. He ends up with the equivalent of some vending machine sandwhich containing "mystery meat". He's out to sea right now, so he probably has to fish for his supper. I know these must sound like such petty complaints but you'd think our government could hook these guys up. I guess you would think a lot of things though. Well, you just keep rockin' on with your bad self!! Be safe and God bless! Mary

Great blog. Re: the Marines getting hand me downs...some things, sadly, never change. I remember that from Vietnam, steel canteens(sure are noisy when you don't want them to be) when the army had plastic, M14s (not bad really, I preferred the M14) when the army had M16s, standard issue fatigues (heavy cotton) while the rest of the troops had the light weight jungle fatigues.
Your description of the troops is also how I remember Vietnam. We were kids really, well-trained, lethal kids...horseplay to warplay in an instant.
Keep the faith, and keep your head down!

What can we civilians do? Where can we send money to get our Marines the equipment they need to protect us?

Kevin, once again you've picked up where others leave off. And your MSNBC piece yesterday on the twins was good, too.
Keep it all together. It will be a great book in the same sense as those by Bill Mauldin and Ernie Pyle. Trust those soldiers and Marines. Once they know you, you can say or write anything. They just don't care much for strangers.

Why are the Marines treated any differently than the rest of the military? I hope one of us will find out why and educate us all.

Kevin - we need more scoop! All the family and friends of the Marines with 3/1 are ckecking your site everyday. Seems like you don't have much to "report on." Are you tough enough to stay with 3/1 as they kick up some dust in the city?
