Congratulations to Team Gold, 2007-2008 Night Owl Hockey League Champions !!

Team Gold won a hard fought battle 3-2 over Team Gray, on Sunday night
(3-30-08).

Thanks guys for another fun year, and I hope to see you all next season. Please keep checking this Message Board periodically as I will try to use this site to keep everyone informed, as next season approaches. As always, please feel free to contact Jamie or myself if you have any questions or concerns regarding the NOHL (our email addresses are listed on the site). Best wishes to all and have a great Spring and Summer! JIM

re: NOHL Consolation game 8:10pm Sunday 3-30-08

Greg Carpenter from team White suggested that members from Red and Blue consider playing with White and Green. This is usually a good move as it ensures a full bench, and gives guys a chance to play with some different players.

One last chance before the ice come off for the season!

Thanks to all for a fun season! I will try to keep you all posted on this Board over the Spring and Summer with any new developments. Thanks again! JIM

FINAL PLAYOFF SCHEDULE for NOHL 2007-2008:

Friday 3-28-08 9:10pm (1) Gold vs (4) Blue

                10:20pm (2) Red vs (3) Gray

Sunday 3-30-08 6:30pm Championship

                8:10pm (5) White vs (6) Green

Notes:

--Greg Carpenter (from team White) suggested we consider the two teams that lose Fri night join in to play with White and Green for the Sun 8:10pm game. I will discuss this with Bob from Green, but I think is a nice gesture from Greg, and very good idea. Nice to play with some new guys, and better ensures a full bench. Will need final confirmation from White and Green however, as it their ice time.

--the reason for the delay in making playoff determinations was that seeds 3,4,and 5 were very close! After much work from the Captains (searching old emails etc), final records ended with 3. Gray 12-10-3, 4. Blue 11-10-4, and 5. White 11-12-2. I thank you Captains for stepping up this week, and also for your grace.

--Captains: please contact Gordon Buckley ASAP regarding goaltender availability and to confirm your preference. Please email me if you need contact info (nohljim@hotmail.com)

--I will ask Kyle to keep the refs "in house" if possible this year. I think they have done a great job this year. And it is not an easy job. Please remember that this league is just for fun. And it would not function without them.

--Thanks guys for all your cooperation this year. I sincerely appreciate all those who have helped me out. I have mentioned to Jamie that I may be looking step down after this year. But I will certainly work to make sure that the NOHL is on firm ground before doing so. Good luck to you all for the Playoffs. Best Regards, JIM

Captains from these teams: please call Gordon!!, to discuss goalie availability and then your preference. Call or email me if you need his number.

Friday 3/28 games will be 1 vs 4 @9:10 pm, then 2 vs 3 @ 10:20pm

Thanks Jason!

As of last, after 24 of 25 "regular season" games, Blue's record is 11-9-4 for a total of 26 points.

Jim Hilson and I are compiling (via email) everyone's game results and I will be tabulating the standings once everyone has their results turned in. We still need Green and Gold...

Everyone, if we hope to have a "fair" playoff then we need these results ASAP. We cannot afford to wait until after all of the regular season games have been played!

Dear all,
I would like to thank you all on behalf of my family for all of your kind words and prayers since the passing of my wife, Natalie.
It means a great deal to me to have your support during this difficult time.
It really helps me to be able to come upto the rink and play, to be a part of a larger family and forget about my problems for at least the duration of the games.
Once again, many thanks to you all

hey all...i just want everyone to know that i'm not being lazy by not having the site updated....for some reason, (only) this website won't let me upload from my laptop, so everything has to be done from the desktop. Now with the desktop, i need more than 20 minutes to myself to get it "done" and "updated." With that being said, and no more excuses, i NEED to have everyone's rosters and scoresheets to date sent to me at hullspad@windstream.net. Preferably by this Saturday night, as i am planning on spending my first and last day off for the next two weeks (Sunday) getting this website updated. So, PLEASE this saturday if you guys can.

Hi guys:

Hope you all had a great summer! The deadline for your application and entry fee is Friday September 14th, 2007 (for the 2007-2008 NOHL season). Please remember, we will be buying ice time this year strictly in relation to the number of applications we receive by the 14th. We can only guarantee roster spots for those who make the deadline.

If you are having trouble with making your first payment, the CCYHA now offers a PayPal payment system. This means you could make your payment with a credit card. You can access this system on the CCYHA web site, www.ccyha.net. If you have any questions regarding this system, please contact Jamie (email address on the NOHL site), or the CCYHA site webmaster. And you must let Jamie and I know of your intention to use this method, by the 14th, to ensure your roster spot.

As always, we intend on trying to keep teams together -- buddies with buddies -- but all new players must be approved, and placement made by league officials. We wish to avoid "stacking" of teams.

If you have a desire to be moved from the team where you played last year, this can be done. Jamie and I will handle this confidentially. Please contact us via our email address listed on the NOHL site, and we can discuss with you making arrangements to be moved to a new team. We are reluctant to do this, but we do not wish to lose a player from the league as a whole.

Finally if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact Jamie or myself (email address listed on the NOHL site).

Thanks, Jim

My original comment was meant to be funny. Not an attack or meant to disparage anyone. I agree it is a fun game and it is fun to get a little physical and leave it on the ice. Is there anyone who hasn't done things that would deserve 2 minutes? I just thought that it was a funny comment, he was the only player who took a swipe at me whose name I knew, thats all. I'll just refrain from posting and then there will be nothing to read. The thing about message boards is that you have to give people the benefit of the doubt otherwise things can be misconstrued all the time. But hey, my bad.

He said he didn't slash anyone (in the chamionship game) and he doesn't make a habit of regularly slashing people. I thought it made sense. Also, what does how good of a player he is have to do with if he ever slashes? And when did this forum turn into a debating space, or this topic into a debate? I believe the topic is hockey, which we all enjoy, and thats why we are here. It's a fun game remember? Sometimes tempers flare because it's a competitive and physical sport, and that's why there are referees and penalties. Lets not forget this is the best game on the planet and we are lucky to have such a great league to play in.
California Kid  130
04-30-2007 07:34 AM ET (US)
I tapped your stick right after you passed and you 2 hand slashed me, it happens. Your one of the best players in the league, you never slash? But you retaliate. Either you didn't slash anyone or you don't make a habit of it? It can't be both. You need to learn to debate better.

That a boy! He's got a great point. If you leave a rattle snake alone the snake will not bite. The first time you mess with that snake , you better be prepared to get bit. I don't know who ----kid is, but why do you take things beyond the game of hockey. I know Brian as a good hockey player and an outstanding guy, what he does on the ice always has it's reasons. Brian, don't sweat the small stuff.

Dear Cali-kid,
I didn't slash anyone nor do I make a habit of it. Why the ignorant comment about me. I only receive penalties when I get "raped" by one of you guys. I then respond with some physical play. Maybe if you learned how to skate better, you would not have to slash or ride me down the ice with your stick!!! Thus, I would not have to retaliate!!! I guess the after hyphen part of your name says it all----kid!!!

Congratulations Team Orange, the 2006-2007 NOHL Champions!!!

Team Orange beat team Gray 1-0 on Sunday (March 25th). And John Bunce ended his playing career in style with a shutout! I am sure Jason will have a more interesting game account for you all shortly...

I just wanted to say thank you to all for another great season. It takes a lot of cooperation and good faith to work, and I am grateful.

Jamie and I are planning a year end Captain's meeting (probably nearer to the end of April), so please let your Captain know of any NOHL issues you feel need addressed. Best regards to all, and have a great Spring and Summer! Jim

This was a great year and I really thank everyone for the fun and competition. I sometimes think it was a real accomplishment just getting my hockey equipment on before a game. The comish and co-comish did a terrific job. Keep up the good work and thank you. I hate to see John Bunce retire because he has been a big part of the hockey program for CCYHA and NOHL. Take care John. Jason, I would volunteer to be in the movie, but I don't do nude scenes. I don't want to be responsible for people having to go to counseling afterwards.

Cali,

I would say yes (to riding up with me), but my wife works til four and we'll probably do dinner after filming....also, i won't need everyone the whole time, so you would probably have the option of leaving earlier than I.

1505 State St. Erie, across the street from Juniors. If you want to follow me, that's cool.... Just let me know. I can meet you at the drop off by the interstate at say 845. Yep, nice and early :)

For my two cents: Keep the goalie thing the same, or let teams pick a goalie for the season....i.e., the last placed team would have the first pick at the goalie, if there was enough goalies to go around. Just a thought.

I agree about the goalie, switching goalies to make things fair? if you really want fair than everyone should take a turn in net. or just put up the canvass goalie, why even keep score. The goalies all played well, at least all the games I saw.

Cali. kid, and anyone for that matter....
I need people this Sunday in Erie that would be willing to be an extra in my flick. Basically call time is 10 am at 1505 State st. 3rd floor. Erie. This is my editor's studio, and we will be filming this day from 12-3 or so. The more people i have the merrier (make up is from 10-12). If this doesnt work for any of you (i do realize that it's the day after St. Party's day), then the second week of May (Sunday) i will need extras also.

Good luck to everyone in the playoffs....

03-15-2007 10:27 PM ET (US)
I was just reading below that someone wanted to change goalies half way through. I am one of the goalies. Just to be honest...I wouldn't play. Thats not just me. Each goalie, whether it be me, or another play to WIN the game. Maybe we aren't specifically playing for a team but we are playing to win. Changing me half way through would completely take that winning drive away.

So take it as you will. You will lose goalies if you go to that method.

Hi everyone. I am new to the NOHL and I look forward to meeting all of you, if I already do not know you yet. Jim Hilson was kind enough to accept me into the NOHL on the red team. I played two games on the Gold team and had two assists. This league seems to be a great league, and I hope you can accept me for years to come.I will be in red uniform on Friday night for the playoffs. I look forward to playing with them, and I wish all teams a great post season. Jim Hilson is doing a great job in this league. I hope everyone can appreciate how much he really does.

Wanted to thank the webmaster for the site, great job! and offer my skills in the movie. I was in 2 movies when I lived in CA, but I ended up on the cutting room floor. Monster genre? I shouldn't even need any makeup.
I also wanted to thank the goalies, every NHL game I watch it seems as though I am amazed by the netminders, for making great saves and for letting some in that a bag of sand could stop. great effort all year.
I also want to thank the commish and co- commish, it is like a thankless job with no upside.
And the other players, thanks I had a blast. It was my first year and I managed to piss some people off and some people pissed me off. Thats one of the great things about hockey. I might be back next season but we are considering moving back to CA after school is out.
  Good luck in the Playoffs

The pictures on the webpage should be scaled down. They take time to load even on high speed internet. Scale them down to a smaller jpeg format. They would be almost useless on dial up.

Sorry to everyone if i've been a bit delayed on updating the website. I've recently taken on a part time job, on top of running a business (no, the business isn't going under....there's a doc that needed some coverage while he's taking care of some personal issues)....however, that leaves me with only one day off a week, AND i don't work "normal" hours, in that i'm never home before 8-9 pm EVERY day, including (yes) Saturday and Sunday (home by 5). Also to top it off, playing hockey, running (now) 3 websites (no, not porn) and my newest adventure filming a movie (full length, horror/action). So, not that i'm making excuses, just that i wanted to apologize to you all. My bad.

On the movie note. After the playoffs are all over and Orange hoists the cup again, i DO need people that might want to be extras in the movie...especially some of you big bastards. Basically, you would be made up to look like the dead (or un-dead, as this is a vampire movie), and you might get shot a few times. Just let me know if you have any interest, most filming is done over the course of 5-6 hours on Sundays (my wife is working for me while i do this). The film is set to finish the end of April-early May, finishing touches by the end of May, and the final copies done.

Why, you ask.....where are you going to show it??? Well, i guess that we'll be "trying" to show at the two big festivals in Erie this year, Great Lakes Film fest and the Eerie horror fest. Sit on that for a year and show at more festivals across the country next year (e.g. Chicago, LA, Las Vegas, NYC, etc). The ultimate goal is to break even financially.

Just keep me posted, i'm rambling......i also want to (my annual thank you) thank Jim and Jamie for putting great teams on the ice this year... it has been fun, to the players for not hitting me too hard (i'm getting old), and for the most part playing fair. Everyone, really....it's been a great year. KEEP ORANGE ALIVE NEXT YEAR !!!!

This is not a bad idea, except that it would require that the "late-payers" to be asked to pay a bit more (which might not go so well).

Our margins are too thin. If a significant discount was offered to early payers, the rest of the "late" payers would have to make up the potential difference.

However your idea is a good one, and perhaps need some further consideration.

I think one solution is to have some sort of mid-summer meeting. This is a tough one, as most guys are golfing, or fishing, or watching the kids. But I think that if guys are able to see the "numbers" on paper, which the Captains see in the late-summer meetings, they would see that the NOHL is not a huge money-maker for anyone, as I think some guys imagine it is. The CCYHA provides excellent accounting, free of charge, on the premise that it might produce a few dollars for the kids. In addition to providing the CCYHA affiliated people (coaches, etc.)with a nice place to play --- with the rest of the NOHLers. This is how it all got started in the first place.

Hockey is a great sport, but unlike a softball league, it is more expensive --- and risky (ice time, refs etc.). I always fear some sort of collapse, and the threat of incurring a substantial financial loss for the CCYHA. But thankfully---perhaps amazingly---everyone seems to "get it". There is an understanding. And much good faith...

We could consider some sort of sponsorship. Team advertising or something of the sort. But myself, and most guys I know, are generally too busy to pursue this. But I certainly think that would help our bottom line.

I think Jamie and I will try to figure out some sort of solution. Maybe a early to mid summer golf party/outing or something, but we certainly could use help from good samaritans....

Thanks!

Has the league ever considered giving discounts to players who give earlier notice (say a month sooner) than what we currently give before the season starts,(maybe $25) and also consider another $25 discount for paying the season amount in full earlier (a date pre determined by league officals)? This could do two things, get the league earlier roster information and help defer cost for players.

Thanks for the response about the money. I collect money for a team at another rink and know the uncertainty of collecting enough to cover your expenses but not too much to make players quit. At the other rink the refs aren't a constant, their more expensive every year!! So guys don't understand why last years league fee doesn't stay the same for a whole decade. I was comparing $200 to $300 in a relatively short time, but that may have been a good price at $200. I enjoy paying my money and just playing in this league, since I do all the money on a team in the other one.

Thanks for you efforts.

Just wanted to try to give a brief reply regarding cost, as I am sure there are others who also may have questions. For anyone who wants a detailed answer with numbers, they can email me and I would be happy to get together and show them. Certainly it is fair to wonder. The captains are always informed in summer about NOHL finances, but nontheless it is a fair question. I will try to give a few answers...

We exist under the CCYHA. They buy the ice time, in good faith, in late summer for us --- the NOHL. We get the CCYHA rate, as they buy in volume and get an optimum price for ice time.

We try to buy enough ice time for 8 teams, each getting aroung 24 games. We really need around 12 guys per team to make it safely, financially. There is always a dilema that exists, because in late summer (when everyone is tied up with summer things) team captains cannot guarantee to me how many players are returning. Each year there is a team or two that goes from say, 12 players to 8 players. Some guys move, some guys have other commitments, some are involved in family/marriage concerns, etc., etc.. If I knew exactly how many players were coming back, we could buy ice time only for 7 teams or 6 teams...or whatever... to play (and staff the existing teams with the extra guys left over from dis-banded teams---which would help with individual team numbers). This would save all of us some money. But captains don't want to see their team disentigrate, and will usually say to me "Oh...I think think everyone is coming back". I take them on their word.

This means that when we lose some guys on a team or two, if we don't get a quick and early influx of new players, Jamie and I chew our nails hoping we the league will make ends meet. Because the ice time has already been bought by September. This year we had a nice number of newer guys (thank you new guys). Last year we didn't and we cleared our expenses by under $100. You can probably do the math. Most years we clear by 3 to 7 guys. Really not much of a buffer.

We have been trying to figure a way to get some type of commitment --- something more than verbal---from all of the guys in late summer (before buying ice time). But there doesn't seem to be an easy answer to that one...

I can assure you we run on a shoe-string budget. If ice time goes up, we have problems. Ref costs are pretty constant. The managerial work is free --- too bad for me.

Finally, as most guys know, Jamie and I (with much conversation with team Captains) try to place players based on team need and numbers. "It ain't perfect", but certainly better than if the rink was to try to manage it, say, with guys gathering up their own teams and submitting them to the MARC. You would end up with a few extremely dominant teams, comprised of buddies, and a withering group of extremely poor teams, that would likely ultimately leave (perhaps before making full payments), and the league, I predict, would fail.

And we're back to passing the hat late on a Sunday night...

Again, always feel free to contact me if you have further concerns (or wish to help in some way). Thanks guys, Jim

Agreed,

I am not one of the people who has not posted so far. So this isn't a response to any individual. I just wanted to add a quick comment. When the adrenaline is flowing on the hockey rink people act completely different than they would in everyday life. I personally know I have said things on the rink I would never say otherwise. Both sides need to take this into account. Try not the say anything you would regret, and if you hear a comment about you take into account it is in the heat of competition. As others have said, the alternative of not playing is worse than a few comments.

And an unrelated comment, I have played in the NOHL for a number of years. I have payed $200, $250, and $300. I can tell you inflation isn't 50% since I payed $200. I would think the price could stay at this $300 for a number of years in the future. I realize that it is under the CCYHA, and I wouldn't want to turn a way a kid from hockey so that old guys could play. A 50% increase in cost should cover things for awhile I would think.

Thanks to all that make the NOHL possible.

Whoooaahh now...easy, boys!!

Please remember this league is truly a cooperative. We all need each other, like it or not.

I am sure there are a few guys who, like myself, can remember the years sitting around the rink late on a Sunday night, hoping we could scrounge enough cash between the few who would show up, in order to play. And with those darned wooden goalies. Please remember, dissent will truly kill the league. In late summer it could become way too much of a financial risk, for me or anyone else, to arrange to buy such a large amount of ice time, fearing such dissent. I spend too many hours away from my family trying to help keep the ship afloat, not to say something. As do others. PLEASE... cooler heads must prevail.

If anyone has serious issues, please feel free to contact me (my email address is on the site). I would be happy to call a meeting to settle things in a better way, if necessary.

I do also want to give a BIG thank you to the Captains, and the rest of the guys in the NOHL. We had very near 100% payment from everyone. Which I truly understand is not an easy task for many. Trust me, it would be a LONG winter in Meadville without a decent league to play in. I can remember it all too well...

Please guys, warts and all, the NOHL is a heck of a lot better than the alternative (been there...). I am always willing to hear new ideas and constructive criticism (again, my address is on the site). I can take the lumps. But please ALWAYS remember, we are all on this ship together. Players, goalies, refs. Let's keep it afloat. Thanks.

I will give you this...he didn\'t have to quit the game...but he did not deserve the way you and the other \"unamed\" player on your team treated him. ...thats assuming everything I have heard about last year and this year is true.

Understand one thing... Everyone hears critizism in life. Learn to handle it and grow from it. You will never go anywhere in life by tucking your tail between your legs and quiting.

Now, as for last year... The game in question was a hard fought, passionate contest. A goal was scored against that was shot from center ice with no one between the shooter and the goalie. The shot was headed for the corner of the net approx. 3-5 inches off the ice. You made a sprawling, uncontrolled attempt to stop the puck... to no avail... My comment was meant to be helpful, in that I said "you should stay on your feet and just adjust to the puck". You got upset and attacked me with a verbal barrage about how YOU are the goalie and that YOU know how to play the position and that a shot to the low stick side is a "classic butterfly save". My response... "On a shot from center ice?" You proceeded to get hostile and my teammates asked you to leave.

Last night was another tough night... A goal scored from a shot behind the goal line in the corner is just on example. I will be honest with you... As a player battling every shift those types of goals against are disheartening... I did not say anything to you... After the fifth goal I made the comment that this is ridiculous. Not to your face... And that was it!

You reaction is your own decision and you must live with it.

And by the way... Do not pretend to be doing the NOHL a favor. We are all here for enjoyment. However, all of the guys in front of you pay $300 for that ice time. It should not be a favor on either side for you to get the opportunity to play for FREE... Yes, we do need goaltenders. But do not sit on your high horse and feel we should bow to you.

Again... Learn to deal with adversity or you will be a failure your whole life.

I feel the league would probably like to hear why I walked out...and I figure I will speak up once, leave my reasoning and let you all work it out.

The reason I walked out is because Jamie and certain members of the blue team have constantly disrespected me on a personal level. Jamie and his entourage attacked me verbally last year, blaming me for a loss. Again, when blue tied Gamble's team this year Jamie was found to be shaking his head is disgust, and finally, in a game where black was literally shalacking blue, Jamie again attacked me verbally on a personal level. On the way out of the rink, another player from the blue team said, and I quote "I will kill you".

I will not, under ANY circumstances play for a team that constantly verbally disrespects me. I play ice goalie for fun. I drive to Meadville in the winter to help out the NOHL and get into some good friendly competition. I refuse to believe that ANY team or any player has the right to treat me the way they did. Personal attacks will not be tolerated, nor will I play for any team that single handedly blames all of their defensive problems on the goaltender.

Lastly, I am going to defend myself. Goalie is not my expertise, its my hobby. I am not the best goaltender, and I have a bad game once in a while just like everyone else. Now even considering that, take a look at my record: My record is 11-6-3. I have 2 shutouts, second only to Gordy. If you think that loss was my fault, I think you need to think again. I am not going to sit here and ask for "acceptance" from the NOHL. I play hockey with one of the most talented roller hockey teams in PA. I don't need the NOHL in any way shape or form. With that said, I look forward to playing with those of you who can respect me and more importantly that game itself. Next time you think you can blame the goaltender, why don't you strap on some equipment and get hit in the face a few times. We will see how you like it.

When other individuals are prepared to accept the many responsibilities that I have undertaken to see to it that this league continues to run smoothly, only then will I worry myself with these trivial comments… Oh what it would be like to be able to “just show up at the rink” and PLAY.
You see, most people “get it” and I have been thanked for my efforts… Those individuals make my efforts worthwhile. If only my life where so complicated where I had to miss playtime #1 (hockey) because it interferes with playtime #2 (snowmobile trip).
Sorry I could spend more time to suit EVERYONES needs…

To ask this in an open forum....thinking out loud....
If at the end of the 1st period
the score was 6-1
and the team with 1 goal
took their 5 skaters and left the ice
because the leading team was being disrespectful,
what is the result?
Situation stems from game played earlier
in the year where the team getting run out
had good cause to skate off the ice.

Did this situation with the forfeit actually occur, or is this a hypothetical question?

It would seem to me that a valid game was going on up until the time of forfeit so the goals and penalties should be recorded. Although the official score for a forfeit should probably still read 1 - 0.

NOHL Officials:
Are there NOHL league bi-laws/rules to cover this situation?

Team A and Team B are playing.
Score after Period 1: Team A 2 - Team B 1

SCORE SHEET READS:

Team A, same player has both goals, unassisted.
Team A, one player receives 2 min roughing.

Team B, a player has single goal, unassisted.
Team B, one player receives 2 min roughing.

Captain of Team B approaches game officals
and says, "We forfeit." and Team B leaves the ice.
Team B captain provides no explaination.

What is the offical league result?

1. Do the goals go into the stats?
2. Do the penalties go into the stats?
3. What is the score listed as in the results?

Re: red goals. Either "my mistake", or sometimes with the scoresheets that i get, i can't make out who in God's earth the number wrote down on the sheet is supposed to be, so i just make sure the score is good, and leave it at that (e.g. on a recent scoresheet that i've got, there was a number 21 THREE times on the scoresheet....we dont have a number 21....what do you do then with the goals for number 21?). Have your team look it over and if anyone sees any discrepancy, let me know and i'll fix it up-that's about the best that i can offer. thanks for noticing stuff like that, though....keep me posted if you see anything else. re: no goal
Being a former ref (not for a long time but not long ago), I know refs make calls and are suppose to make it by what they see, not what others say. If refs were to make calls based on what others told them, refs wouldn't be needed and the games would be self officiated. It is not necessarily poor sportsmanship, it is just a call not made, but the refs do the best they can. My only request is consistancy from refs, cause it then takes the guess work out of how to play.

I was impressed with Colby and Crosby and Orpik but Gonchar is the player who really stands out. He was so smooth and effortless yet exciting. That must have been what is was like to watch Bobby Orr. LeClair on the other hand has lost a step or he is playing like a guy on a team that won't make the playoffs. Koltsov was also impressive and Roy was a hustler but lacked in other areas. I also felt that Cairns was a good player for being an enforcer sometimes they don't skate that well, Marty McSorely is a good example of an average skater who played alot because he could fight. I sure wish I had gotten a chance to see Mario and Scott Stevens.

Went to see the Pens today and they lost. After a first period 2 goal lead given to them by Crosby and Colby they floundered in the second period. Then fell apart in the third. The Devils tied the game with a few seconds to go in regulation with the powerplay on and an empty net and a 5 on 3 advantage. I was hoping for a Sir Sidney SO heroics but the pens couldn't hold them off in the 5 min OT.
It was still a blast. We were in the nose bleeds but just before faceoff my wife upgraded our seats for 20.00$ and got us 4 rows from the glass. My daughter got a free hat and I had my picture taken with the cheerleaders, life is good.

Well "Mr. Trump" you should know first hand... It is not the "new players" I worry most about, it is the approximately 100 we currently have. My feelings are strongly based on the premise of taking care of your best "customers". Should I care about those select few deadbeats who try to avoid paying or the majority of our honest players who pay upfront or on time? If it were up to me Orange would have had three less players on the roster for the playoffs. I felt that any player who had gotten to this point without paying up was intentionally trying to skirt the issue and should be suspended for the balance of the season. Luckily for Orange, the man in charge didn't have it in him to be that confrontational. I do not have time to deal with deadbeats... I will continue to "watch-out" for the "good-guys". This league will be fine without the 6 - 8 deadbeats. However, it will not be OK without the 90 players who pay on time. The mantra is supposed to be Fair Play for Fair Pay... Its in the By-Laws! Guys like Roy Vickers deserves far better treatment than what I witnessed in these playoffs. Is there any doubt why Orange won? One of the best players in our league skated 40 out of 45 minutes, while Orange's weastest skater skated 5 minute total. It is not fair to Roy or the 12 skaters on Gold. I wish there was an easy way to "police" this kind of mistreatment of our players. Unfortunately, this "smear campaign" is the only way I know to "call-out" and humiliate the culprits. Take it or leave it... I really do not care. Beacuse, truth be told, this league will function just fine next year with 7 legitiment "teams" of honest paying players.

I am glad to see that the best "team" won the coveted NOHL Cup. Everyone pays $300 to play this great game. Fair Play for Fair Pay is the way it should be. But no, we have a "team" with four players who needed visits from the commissioners to get them to pay, all the while a great guy like Roy Vickers pays his money with no hassles and gets all of four F@cking shifts in the final game that was over by the begining of the third period. My hats off to Roy for being able to suck up his pride. However, I feel all of you bastards whom stood by and watched this happen should kick in $15 to help offset the injustice that has been done! Sit on your god damned money all year in hopes that you can skirt the issue while the good guy pays and gets royally screwed!

I hope someone choked on their celebratory beer.

Wrong just plain wrong!!!!!!!!

Sorry Roy, you deserve better than being stuck on a team of assholes.

the refs would call more penalties but babysitting the offender is not in the job discription. when we call a penalty, we listen to a crying superstar! take the test, get your stripes and shout up! get rid of that stupid 20 minute penalty rule and less bitching will occur. lastly do not attempt to argue with an official if you THINK you know the rule, know the rule first then state your case.

Hey all, very fun year. Thanks to the refs, commishes and players for a ton of fun. Please look over the website and let me know what any of you would like changed, added, etc. This site was sort of a "rush job" in that we were already into the season when i started it. I'll be working on the new and improved site soon-almost right after season end in hopes of getting it functional before the puck drops next year: so, if you have a comment about the site, it's best to do it now instead of two months from now when i already have it built, capiche'??? Ok, you all are wondering why i retired. Well, it actually has a lot to do with you all. It was rough for me watching the talent level of your league last year. Over the summer i realized that it was probably not within my potential to ever make any of your teams, and Wayne pretty much confirmed that one night when we were out scoutin' for tail. It was tough news for me to take, so i retired.

I will be looking forward to seeing some of your games and meeting a few of you as i come out to visit my cousin around the holidays. I would love to lace them up with you all, but i think i'll stick to sitting and watching for now.

Keep it clean, $50 is hard to give up !!!

TO THE REST OF THE LEAGUE, LET'S HAVE SOME FUN,
LET'S NOT HIT EACH OTHER OR TAKE A RUN.
LET'S PLAY HARD BUT ALSO BE FAIR,
WHEN YOU SCORE A GOAL THROW YOUR ARMS IN THE AIR.

TO THE REFEREES DRESSED IN WHITE AND BLACK,
CALL A PENALTY WHEN SOMEONE CLIMBS ON MY BACK.
WHEN I GET HIT WITH AN OPPONENT'S STICK,
MAKE SURE YOU BLOW THE WHISTLE QUICK.

IN CLOSING, I WANT EVERYONE TO HEAR,

This was a great first season in the league, i wanted to say thank you to all teams, and Orange, for making me feel welcome. thanks to the commishes for keep the teams even and competitive throughout the year. Any night, any team could win. You guys did a fantastic job. I had a blast!!!

Steve Kish (Lonny, you too), thanks for talking me into playing, 5 years later......glad i got to play with you (on the ice :) )....Kish, here's to refs that will allow you to play next year. Hopefully, former differences won't hinder someone with your love and passion for the game to play again, especially since all BIASED eyes always seem to follow you.

Jonny and Doug, thanks for the advice all season long, and allowing me to play on your line....it was a blast. I hope i was more of a help than a hindrance. Sorry about a few of the offsides, Jon. Doug, i have just retained feeling in my arm.

Pat, thanks for buying my truck, and being a bud.

Melvin, thanks for not trading me, and buying beers AFTER the games :).

Rick, Todd and Chad (Bob, you too) for being the best D in the league. You guys rule. Rick, three words: GRASSY KNOLL GOAL.

To all other players, watch out, the "wide glide" will be back to knock you on your a$$ next year ;).

have a great summer all. Go Orange !!!!!!!!!!

It was a great game that i watched that night seeing my dad argue with the ref and get kicked out of the game.I will never forget the goal my dad had in that game.Top shelf on Bunce.Although i wish to hold the coveted NOHL cup in my own hands.

I will also never forget the goal that Triola had. What a nice shot top corner of Bunce.Bunce never even saw it coming. But to bad it was on his own team.

Another very impressing player and a tough one is Jonny Myers who took a puck and a stick to the face and still said "I dont need stiches".

But all and all it was a pretty good game and a great season for the Orange Crush (Punkinheads)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rink was lit, the players held true...
The battle was set between orange and blue.

Only a 3 goal lead, with not much to say...
an errant puck strayed into the blue end of play.

What could this this be what should I do,
felt the long legged defensemen with the shirt of blue

But like a tiger ready to pounce on his prey...
number 33 got all excited and turned the wrong way

With lightening speed and the brains of a dunce,
the puck was shot over the shoulder of big john bunce!

A score so perfect, the crowd stood and stared
number 33 did something that nobody dared...

So desperate for a goal, he scored on his team...
and the orange players skated away with the cups shiny gleam

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy they said with a twitch,
and it happened to the one who did nothing but bitch...

Here's to you #33!

It was a long trip in from my mansion outside of Detriot, but i made it on time to pick up J.R. at the airport in Erie (he flew Delta, so of course he was delayed). I felt like a kid again, going to watch players that i admire, and even brought some sticks with me in hopes of a Jon Myers autograph (he was very heavily guarded last night, i unfortunately could not get one).

I have several comments to make. Was my cousin's goal really a goal? This is a question that has lingered around the "Hull" name for many years. Some say yes, it was legit, some say no. From my view from the stands ,it looked as if to be a goal to me. How could the ref not see the goal ??? We do know one thing, all eyes were watching for Steve "the patriot" Kish, who was ejected from the game, and told to never ever ever ever return. What i would have given to have heard the conversation that went on on the ice to have such star-studded talent removed in front of his fans, parents, and budding superstar son.

Now for the best part of the evening. What will always be known as the "Grassy Knoll Goal." Watching highlight films and replays on ESPN, i cannot believe the talent level of the Orange team. Allow me to replay the goal for you.... Rick Scardina, a defensive prowess that some have compared to the great Ray Bourque, rifled the puck towards the net. During which time it struck an opposing players skate. The puck at this point took a 90 degree turn upwards, rolling along my cousins back, up around his shoulder, and then another 90 degree dive towards and into the net. How could my cousin have accomplished such a feat is beyond me, but after the game i had the opportunity to talk to Rick Scardina (i was actually asking for an autograph!!!) He stated that this idea had come about when he was acquired via free agency halfway through the season (and for a pretty penny, mind you). He and Jason had practiced that shot repeatedly during the season, and Rick realized tonight that the opportunity had arisen to implement the brilliant plan, the "grassy knoll goal". Absolute perfect execution. How Jason knew the exact way to curve his back on this goal is beyond me and will have physics majors baffled for years to come. Some would say the game was over well before this goal, i would say it was this goal (with less than one minute remaining) that was the nail in the coffin of their 7 (8?)-1 victory.

Rich "the Eagle" Skalko was a goalie stud reminding me of the days when Eddie Belfour was unstoppable. I hear he's signed a deal with Campbell's chunky chicken's newest addition "Chunky Chicken No-soup-for-you." He would be the ideal candidate. Please Rich, my only request, leave your mom out of the commercials.

Suprising to see at the game was Wild Bill Wesner, who cordially invited me into his personal skybox, where he and i talked of the good ol' days. He did, however, hint to me that this may not be his last season. I was almost giddy with excitement....Only him, Chelios and Messier....wow !!! Us NHLer's and the orange team hope to see him back and in healthy condition for the '05-'06 season.

All in all it was a great game to watch. Robert Lee Melvin did a great job coaching from 20 feet away, as he wasnt allowed to coach "behind" the bench for wearing the wrong color of shoes (they were blue). The blue team did show class by hanging around and congratulating the Orange team and watching celebrations after the game. Great game, great season. All i can say is shanks for the memories.

For the Hull clan, i'm signing off....

Until next year....

I'm back for one last time. Time for predictions. Going through film, I can see by the uptight look on their faces all year, that Triola and Houck don't get laid much, that will probably hold true for today also. I see alot of bitchin and complaining and loss of composure by the two. Can Johnson and Booth hold it together for Blue, they will help, but it won't be enough,I see Orange winning in a close one. The team chemistry for Orange is something I have never seen in a hockey team. Got to go, I will be calling the game on ESPN Radio. If you have tickets, good for you, your in for a real good game.

Hey I'm back. Right now I want to look at Orange. You look at their roster, and from top to bottom, the level of talent is about the same. Myers, Hanaway, and Kish lead the offense, but I love the Orange defense. Number one in fewest goals allowed. Scardina, Lowry,Anderson and Melvin have been outstanding the second half of the season. Big question tonight, can the Orange defense, who has relied on Melvin to carry the load most of the season, be able to peform at this level wihtout him. Melvin is sitting out tonight's contest because of a slight tripping penalty, that put him over 20:00 minutes for the year. I recently spoke to Bob Melvin and ask him for his thoughts on tonights game. Bob replied, I feel this team will step up and play even harder to bring home the cup to Orange. He went on to say, I worked hard at teaching the defense positioning and technique all year, I feel they will perform great in my absense. I will be on the bench tonight, like all year, keeping the team focused on the goal we set at the beginning of the season, the NOHL Cup. At last report the game is sold out.

Chris Berman has asked me to analyze the Orange vs. Blue game. On paper it looks like Blue by 3 or 4 goals. Blue has just to much talent for Orange to hang with them, but there are the intangables. I've studied hours of game film and one person no one is talking about is Jason Hull, cousin of NHL great Brett Hull. Jason is very similar to Brett except for Brett Hull is fast, has a quick shot, good hands, and a great hockey mind, other than the difference in their weight, you can hardly notice a difference. That's where Jason has the advantage. Jason can plant just above the crease and completely block a goalies vision. His teamates affectionately refer to him as "wide glide". The other key intangabes are Triola and Houck. Both great players, but hot tempered. Can they keep their heads in the game or will they go on a tirade and start yelling and screaming at their own teamates. What I see in these two players, is that they don't get laid nearly enough. The last time I coached in the NHL, I would hire hookers to come in a take the edge off the high strung players before the game. The Blue players should consider this, it would make life alot better for them. I'll be back later to further analyze the game. At last report the game was nearly a sellout.

In a game that is attracting national attention,The NOHL Cup,Espn will be showing the game nationally tape delayed. ESPN tried to negotiate a fee for broadcasting the game live, but was uanable to come to terms. Mike Fisher and Chris Nuzback, who maintain a strict policy of punishing the user groups at the complex, saw the opportunity to raise more money to keep the pool open 24 7 so all 5 people that use the pool, can swim even if they can't sleep. I will report back later and go over the crucial matchups in the game, Orange vs. Blue for the NOHL Cup. Tickets are still available, but won't last long.

From my cottage in Phoenix, i've been watching your NOHL games on pay-per-view (I wish they'd lower the prices on my Directv, but damn, these games are intense !!!!). You've all made me jealous, because i realize that you all will earn much more than i ever will, and no we're not talking money. The NOHL cup is highly coveted by my peers, and i can't wait to eat cheerios from it with the winning team (in fact, i have to go check Travelocity to make sure my plane is on time !!!!) Hopefully, the green beer keg will not be tapped, and we can use that on Cheerios !!!

all i have to say is it's about time that the Bill's and Bob's of the NOHL get recognized. I thought there for awhile too many of you Lindros-concussioned old timer players forgot what dedication can do to a team. Instead of yelling and whining all the freakin' time, take some time to look at the punkin-head Orange team and realize that it's teamwork, and leadership from the Charlie Brown of the punkin patch, Robert Lee Melvin, that has got this team rolling.

Oh, we're also predicting Jason Hull (a.k.a. Brett)with four goals and Rich Skalko with the game winner.

Go Punkin Orange !!!!

On the eve of one of the greatest events in all sports, the NOHL Cup, I must take time to congratulate a man, a man among boys the Captain of Orange. Bob Melvin took a bunch of rebelious punks and led them to the championship game. His leadership ability is something that will be remembered for generations, and his hockey mind surpasses even my own. Even with the terrible loss of one of the leagues most veteran players, Wild Bill Wesner, Bob was able to keep the team focused on one goal, the NOHL Cup. Players like Jon Myers questioned, with the loss of Bill, we have no speed, who's going to lead the team now? Yes, the loss of Wild Bill seemed to spell diasaster, many assumed Orange was destined to finsh in last place again, but Bob refused to let the team stop believing in themselves. He kept the team focused, and with the ultimate show of leadership, in last nights game, knowing one more penalty would end his season, Orange committed a rare turnover in their end, but Bob, a born leader knowing one goal could change the momentum of the game, raced to get between the opposing player and his goalie. In doing so committed a slight tripping penalty, but prevented the goal. Thus ending his season. A season that some have compared to the 1980 Miracle. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Miracle, and from up here, watching Team Oranges's own Miracle this year, I would have to say what that team has acheived this year surpasses the 1980 Miracle. I'm sure Bob will be there, on the bench as he watches Team Orange go from worst to first. GO ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian,
Maybe if you put on a skirt people will stop hitting, slashing, etc. I have to laugh whenever someone accidentally knocks me down (which is usually due to a lack of my own abilities), and they start apologizing and asking if I am ok. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that there are so many gentlemen in the league. I just think it's funny.
So I see gray isn't in last place. That's good :) Have I been completely replaced yet? I miss playing, even if I'm not that good. (I honestly don't understand why so many novice players quit. I love hockey. I like the way our league is set up. How can I improve without having help from better players?) I am going to try to come to a playoff game. Good luck! Tell everyone I said "hi".

I was being serious about some of you guys being refs. There is a lot of guys in the league that have been around the game for a long time. Most of the adult refs are 50+ or damn close. They will not be there forever. Two of the kid refs are graduating this year and won't be around next year. I really think that the NOHL is a great place to look for refs. I'm just saying you guys should think about it.

HELLO TO ALL. THIS FORUM SHOULD BE FOR SUGGESTIONS TO BETTER THE LEAGUE. I SIMPLY MADE A HALF SERIOUS, HALF JOKING COMMENT THE OTHER DAY. SOME JACKASS HAD TO PERSONALLY ATTACK ME. I ACTED SOMEWHAT UNPROFESSIONAL AFTER BEING TREATED POORLY. BUT, AS SOME OF YOU KNOW, MY PERSONALITY DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO BE SILENT AND TAKE ABUSE FROM ANYONE. IF I OFFENDED ANYONE OTHER THAN THE PERSON WHO ATTACKED ME(WORRIED FOR FORD), OR THE JACKASS RED#9, I APOLOGIZE. I TRULY ENJOY PLAYING ON THE NOHL. I AM NOT AS BIG OF A PRICK AS SOME OF YOU THINK. I GET ALONG WITH MOST OF YOU.
IT HAS BEEN A FRUSTRATING YEAR FOR ME. I FEEL AS THOUGH I HAVE BEEN UNFAIRLY TREATED ON THE ICE. NOT BY ANY OF THE PLAYERS(OTHER THAN AARON). BUT BY SOME OF THE REFEREES. FOR EXAMPLE, CALEB WATCHES ME EVERY GAME. THE OTHER DAY, I WAS LATE AND HE ASKED ONE OF MY TEAMMATES WHERE I WAS. HE THEN TOLD ME IN THE GAME THAT HE WAS WATCHING ME. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER EXAMPLES, BUT DUE TO TIME AND SPACE CONSTRAINTS, I WON'T BORE YOU ALL. CALEB DOES NOT LIKE ME. BUT, OH WELL, THE FEELINGS ARE RECIPROCATING.
I HAVE BEEN TRIPPED, SLASHED, PUNCHED, ETC. THIS HAS OCCURED DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF SEVERAL OF THE REFEREES. THAT IS NOT RIGHT. ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE OF THE REFEREES TOLD ME THAT IT WAS PART OF THE GAME FOR THESE THINGS TO HAPPEN TO ME. ANOTHER REFEREE JUST STATES THAT HE DOES NOT SEE IT HAPPEN. ALL THAT I AM SAYING IS THAT IF SOMEONE COMMITS A PENALY AGAINST ME, THEN RAISE YOUR ARM, BLOW THE WHISTLE, AND PUT THE OFFENDER IN THE PENALTY BOX. I HAD 4 PENALTY MINUTES UNTIL THREE GAMES AGO. I NOW HAVE 14 PENALTY MINUTES. THE FRUSTRATION LEVEL HAS GOTTEN THE BEST OF ME. HOWEVER, I DID LAY PARISI OUT THE OTHER DAY. THAT WAS ENJOYABLE. OK, THAT WASN'T NICE.
KENNY SMITH: IN RESPONSE TO YOUR MESSAGE. I FEEL THAT THE REFEREES HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB. THE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO ADDRESS.
SO, IN CLOSING, LET'S ENJOY THE REST OF THE SEASON. CONTACT IS PART OF THE GAME AND I WELCOME IT, BUT DON'T HACK!!! THERE IS A DISTINCT DIFFERENCE.

Grey captian--30 yrs exp  23

To red #9-this is an example of idiots in our league--what Brian was trying to say with a one sentance funny message is that he gets hacked as he plays at a faster pace than most in our league and does not get the proper call from the officials. He is certainly not afraid of contact--so the phrase " it is to rough get out " really shows ignorance and a total llack of understanding of the complaint. It is simple if a guy like Brian or Jamie gets mad and just touches a lesser player the refs enjoy throwing the book at them. And I know that there are times when they should get a penalty no question. But the game has to be called evenly in order to have integrity in our system--for example when Brian gets mad and pushes someone he should go to the box for roughing, but on the other hand when he is driving to the net cleanly and someone slash's him or trips him that has to be called no matter how much worse the player doing it is or who the ref is that game and if he likes Brian that week.
We can all play together in this league and we already have a second tier it is the NOHL Open wed night. The system can work fine with these two leagues as long as a person is not like Jamie said- just avoiding the NOHLO just to show up worse players and I think we have very little of that. We dont have to break up the NOHL it is fine and there are areas that someone can get better competition if they feel the need and I think NOHLO will grow if given time it is just starting. So lets have fun this season and just try to shore up our rosters earlier for next year so we dont have so much confusion at the begining of our season. I think this will happen as the league is already more orgaized than last year.

Don't fell sorry for Red.... when your top three scores for the team don't show up what can you expect. I got traded and I still feel like playing but there are times that this locker room sounds like Orange of the last two years, but that's just me. I play in this league with the younger guys and let's just say I'm over 45 so stop complaining, if it is to rough for you get out. If the reffs won't call the penalties, tough. If you are afraid of getting hurt put on a shield and wear a mouth piece. I came from a league that if you ran your mouth someone would shut it for you minus some teeth.

Besides, there is going to be a serious shortage next year. If don't want a bunch of kids doing your games, it's time to step up.

Ford brings up many valid points here. There are definately far to many stick infractions in the league in general. And, from a biased perspective of course, a majority of those infractions are on the higher skilled players. This is not to difficult to understand. Star players tend to have control of the puck far more than others therefor they are put in the line of fire more often. Less skilled players do not have the ability to defend such players without using their sticks as weapons. I have been hacked and whacked so much that I do not even think about it much anymore.
Do we have a vast disparity of skill levels in our league? Most definately! However, it is what we have and we need to do a better job of catering to everyone. I have tried many times to start the discusion of what our league should consist of next year. I believe that something must be done.
Brian, if you agree with Doug Hanaway and myself, the Wednesday night league is far less "dangerous" the the great NOHL. This is being disputed by those few skilled players that do not join us on Wednesday nights. They fear that the competition and physicality of that league would prevent them from getting up and going to work the next day. I believe the REAL reason is that the fear their ego trip of talent displayed at the NOHL level would vanish and they would be mere mortals in a more competitive league. I fear injury far more in the NOHL due to the lack of control that most players have.
I have purpsosed a creation of a two teired league each consisting of four teams. I feel that there needs to be a place for the lower skilled and aging players in our community. Losing approximately 35 players from a year ago is very disturbing. There can be peace in this league for all.
I am placing an open call to duty, to all concerned about the future of adult hockey in Meadville. Let's form a group of individuals that will make decisions for ALL involved. Let's face it, as a 30 year old player in this league I could say, Hey why not stay here and take advantage of the aging and lower skilled to make myself look good! But, you know what, as long as I am playing hockey I will be happy. I want whats best (within reason) for everyone.
In closing, what the hell is the sense of taking these attacks to this forum? Cowardly display! Stand up to a man like a man. Brian, not that I agree with you on everything, was just making a plea for cleaner, safer play. His "sportsmanship" is not a reason to risk ones health. Guys have egos, and when frustrated by being attacked those egos turn monsterous. Woohooo!!! :)

DEAR WORRIED FOR FORD, (OBVIOUSLY YOU KNOW BRUISED IS BRIAN FORD) YOU OR BROOKER CHECKED THE IP ADDRESS FROM WHICH THE FIRST MESSAGE CAME FROM. SO, OBVIOUSLY BROOKER RUNS THE WEB SITE, HE PLAYS FOR BLACK, EBERT DOESN'T LIKE ME, HE PLAYS FOR BLACK.........IT DOESN'T TAKE A KIDNEY SURGEON TO FIGURE OUT WHO WORRIED FOR FORD IS. NICE TRY THOUGH.

IN RESPONSE TO YOUR ATTACK, I SIMPLY LEFT A MESSAGE ASKING FOR THE HACKING TO EASE UP A LITTLE BIT. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO FEELS THAT WAY. JUST ASK AND I WILL GLADLY SHOW YOU THE BRUISES THAT SOME OF YOU HAVE GIVEN TO ME AS SOUVENIRS. ASK THE OTHERS AND THEY WILL DO THE SAME FOR YOU.

BY YOUR RESPONSE, IT SEEMS THAT YOU ARE AN ANGRY PERSON THAT NEEDS SOME TYPE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL/PSYCHIATRIC COUNSELING OR TREATMENT. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU YELL(LIKE A 14 YEAR OLD BOY) AT BRIAN FORD THAT YOU HOPE HE TAKES HIS GUN AND SHOOTS HIMSELF IN THE HEAD. AT LEAST SAY IT LIKE A MAN, NOT A 14 YEAR OLD THAT IS GOING THROUGH PUBERTY WITH HIS VOICE CRACKING. IT IS ALSO APPARENT TO ME THAT YOUR HOCKEY SKILLS PREVENT YOU FROM PLAYING HOCKEY COMPETITIVELY WITHOUT HACKING OTHERS IN THE PROCESS.

YOU KNOW WHAT, I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING.....RICK PARISI RUNS ADULT HOCKEY SKILL CAMPS....HE PLAYS FOR BLACK....MAYBE HE CAN HOOK YOU UP WITH SOME INFORMATION ABOUT A CAMP THAT WOULD BE BENIFICIAL TO YOU. JUST A THOUGHT.

I AM IN NO WAY RIPPING ON PEOPLE THAT DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY HOCKEY OR THAT HAVE LOW SKILL LEVELS. I AM GLAD TO SEE THEM INVOLVED. IT IS THE IDIOTS THAT HIT PEOPLE WITH THEIR STICKS, HANG ON ON OTHERS, CHEAP SHOT OTHERS, AND JUST HIT PEOPLE IN THE BACK FOR NO REASON, THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. THIS IS REDICULOUS.

SOME OF THE REFEREES DO NOT CALL PENALTIES IN AN EQUAL MANNER. THEY ARE TO BUSY ACTING LIKE CHILDREN AND HOLDING GRUDGES TO CALL A FAIR GAME. EX: "I AM MAD AT SO AND SO FOR YELLING AT ME. I WILL NEVER CALL A PENALTY FOR HIS TEAM AGAIN AND I WILL WATCH HIM LIKE A HAWK (OR A NIGHT OWL). IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. I HAVE ALSO OVERHEARD STATEMENTS SUCH AS, " HE IS A FASTER SKATER THAN ME, HE BIGGER THAN ME, HE DESERVES TO GET HIT." THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE.

IN REFERENCE TO YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE PUCK OCCASIONALLY HITTING YOUR STICK, I HAVE A GREAT IDEA, WHY DON'T YOU CHECK THE STATISTICS OF THE PEOPLE THAT YOU HAVE LISTED. CHECK MY GOALS AND ASSISTS. I JUST DID. I HAVE 24 ASSISTS AND 23 GOALS. IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT AN ASSIST MEANS, IT IS WHEN YOU PASS THE PUCK TO SOMEONE AND THEY SCORE A GOAL. A GOAL IS WHEN YOU SHOOT THE PUCK AND IT GOES INTO THE NET. SO, IT APPEARS TO ME THAT I PASS THE PUCK MORE THAN I SHOOT.

IN CLOSING, WHOEVER WROTE THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS, I HAVE A FEW THOUGHTS FOR YOU TO PONDER. FIRST, JOIN A GYM AND GET INTO SHAPE. MAYBE THEN, WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO CHECK SOMEONE LIKE, TODD GILIBERTO, JIM HILSON, OR RICH COON, YOU WON'T BOUNCE OFF OF THEM LIKE A BALL.

SECOND, QUIT BEATING ON THE CERTAIN PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE. LEARN FROM THEM INSTEAD OF FIGHTING THEM.

FINALLY, YOU AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON FOR THE DECLINE IN THE CCYHA AND THE MEADVILLE HOCKEY PROGRAM IN GENERAL. EVERYONE IS SO IMPRESSED WITH THEMSELVES AND THEIR MONEY AND AUTHORITY INSTEAD OF DEVELOPING YOUNG KIDS INTO GOOD FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND HOCKEY PLAYERS.

GOOD NIGHT AND CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ON THE ICE. IF IT WASN'T EBERT WHO SENT THE MESSAGE, THEN WHOEVER YOU ARE , COME FORWARD LIKE A MAN AND TELL ME WHO YOU ARE. I CAME OUT AND TOLD YOU WHO I WAS. OH, AND BY THE WAY, IF IT WASN'T EBERT, THERE WILL BE NO APOLOGIES FROM ME. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS AS STATED EARLIER IN MY MESSAGE. SOMETHING ABOUT A GUN AND HIM HOPING THAT I SHOOT MYSELF IN THE HEAD.

I agree with Brian (Bruised) Ford. You guys are hacking Brian too much. It is ridiculous that he is grabbed, slashed, held and knocked down so much and the referees never call anything because of his size. It is unfair, especially with how he approaches the game as such a sportsman. The same goes for Triola as he is also put upon by all of you hacks. And so is Gamble. Ease up on these guys, we don't want to lose the talent they bring to our league. They really make it fun to watch the game as a spectator while you are actually on the ice. It is such a joy to have these guys play the game around you like it is a virtual hockey game and occasionally the puck accidently bumps into your stick and you are part of a play. Hopefully next year we can get even better players involved and of course, better players means less hacking and slashing as they will respect the other better players. And, while I am on this soapbox, will everyone please respect the space around Aaron Hughes. The referees cannot seem to understand that he deserves a three foot DMZ around him so that he does not get offended. So, if the referees will not protect him, I suggest we all try to just stay away from him so his feelings and space are respected.

Since there have been no objections reflected here
to post goalie playing statistics,
there is clearly no reason to not start
doing that for the remainder of the season.
With views @ 348, by 146 Unique,
enough people are seeing these posts
to have had a chance to discuss this.

Hey Spartacus,
How about instead of pre-game beer,
we use a handi-cap system that spots the
lower ranked goalie a 1 or 2 goal lead.
Or give each goalie a red challenge towel
to throw on the ice when he feels
that the defense let him down.

And by the way, defense is optional for
the first 4 minutes of even periods
and the the last two minutes of odd periods.
Keep that in mind! It's in the bi-laws.

"The Goalies would like to see who is scheduled to play defense. I have to factor in how much beer I can and cannot have prior to the games. Thank you for your consideration."

That has been the best post so far!!! If the defense is really bad for that game, forget beer...just go right for the Yukon Jack then.

Just a few questions/comments:

1. The everybody makes the playoff comment. Does that mean that all teams are playing for the championship or just the top four, and the other three play for the really big looser trophy?

2. Posting the goalie schedule online makes so much sense that it will never happen. We all should see what goalie is scheduled to play what games in advance...it only makes sense!! I do remember the goalies schedule being posted for a little while last year, but was taken down real quick. Why Gordie would have a problem with it being posted doesn't make sense....makes one wonder why. The wins, losses, GAA doesn't even have to be posted...just who's scheduled to play what game is good enough. Maybe it's time for each team to get their own goalie then.

Reason:

ACCOUNTABLILITY

*****************

Scheduling goalies is not an exact science due to holidays, vacations, illness, work and injury. There is no way to have 100% representation for each team and no one is saying that Gordie is not doing a good job of getting goalies for games. It is where he is putting them on the ice that this page will record for the teams to review.

Such posted information does allow for monitoring of his scheduling and as the playoff picture develops what matchups are made.

Certainly this "tracking" can be done by each team and brought to the attention of the league if there would be concern. Why not give the goalies praise for doing a good job and show their stats as is done for players.

Last year I posted the goalie schedule on the web site and I was going to record their wins, losses, and GAA -- If I remember correctly, Gordie objected to that -- I do not remember the exact reason.

Any posssible plan for this should be discussed with Gordie.

Hilson #87:
"It is my understanding that the rotation of the goalies, as spread out during the course of the season, will ultimately mean that each team will have a fairly even representation of goalies, by March. That is, if you are getting one particular goalie often, early in the season, you will likely not get him as often later on."

Let there be further discussion of that statement:

Suggestion for the website would be to add a page that lists
the two goalies that played in each game. This page would have the standing for each goalie as to their overall record and GAA. A further breakdown on a separate link, as we do with team stats, would show the records for each team they played for and the GAA they earned. None of this is hard to do with the current grids and formulas in place. The referees just have to make sure the correct goalie names are listed on the scoresheet.

This addition to our league stats will keep a clear picture of goalie rotation and performance.

Defining how our goalies are doing and how often they are representing each team should be the first step before we start switching goalies during the game.

Make sure that we are fixing the right thing.

Just wanted to post a quick note, out of respect for the other NOHL players who have taken the time to do the same. I can't say I am speaking for Rick or Gordie (or anyone else). I do think it is a valid concern regarding the goalie situation, but one with several considerations. It is my understanding that the rotation of the goalies, as spread out during the course of the season, will ultimately mean that each team will have a fairly even representation of goalies, by March. That is, if you are getting one particular goalie often, early in the season, you will likely not get him as often later on. This allows for the goalies to be "spread around" as the season progresses. I don't believe there is an intentional placement in favor of one team versus another.
According to the last captains meeting it is my understanding that we will be structuring the playoffs to allow all teams in. That way, especially in light of the fact that competitiveness has grown, we can all bear in mind that the regular season is truly just for FUN.

This does however present one (small) outstanding concern, and that is the time when playoffs arrive. I would like to hear from the league players, particularly the GOALIES, if you can suggest a goalie format that might be the most desirable, for the playoffs. As NOHL co-commissioner I do feel this topic needs discussion before March. I am hoping that we can come up with a consensus between players and goalies, recognizing that we truly need each other, to remain a healthy league. I can live happily with the current arrangement, but would appreciate any feedback (here, or at the rink). Thanks guys.

Don't like the idea of having to change teams during the game. From what I've seen the teams are matched up well, don't change it

There should be more than these 5 posts!

Down to 7 teams and an average of 9 players per team per night, this league is showing 60+ active players! There are more than that. Get in the game!

No NHL this year, so we have to make our own hockey news by writing on this board. Take a minute. Make a comment.

First, this could be a good idea
and would be worth trying it over a 5 game stretch for each team. Then let the captains report back with a Y/N to do it or not. Their being 7 captains, this could be voted on from the league.

Here is one draw back:
From the start of the game, if you feel like you have the "stronger" of the two goalies, your team can play very offensive vs the weaker goalie. If say in that 1st period with the better netminder, your team takes a 2 goal lead, then in the second your team plays back and clogs up the defensive zone and can ice the puck away, holding the lead waiting to get the better backstopper later in the game. The other team is down by two goals and hasn't much choice but to press with whoever is in their net.

It could be fair to switch goalies, but sometimes a game is decided in the first period when one team jumps out to a big lead and changes to a "slowed down" game where they do not take chances anymore.

There are several positives or other negatives, but this is simply a comment that would seem to have some merit.

I would like to get everyone's opinion on a proposed change. I suggested to the commissioners that our league move to a goalie rotaion during games rather than playing with the same goalie the whole game. It is common for other similar leagues that use a goaltender "pool" like we do. I feel that our league, as constructed, is very balanced. It is unfortunate when an unbalanced goaltender matchup determines the outcome of a game. The scenerio I would like to see is this: At the end of the first period the goaltenders do not switch ends (first rotation), again at the end of the second period the goaltenders do not switch (second rotation), then finally at the midpoint of the third period the goalies switch ends (third and final rotation). Each team shoots on each goalie 1-1/2 periods. I feel this works better than making the switch at the midpoint of the second period because a goalie could start out cold and then get hot as the game progresses.
Let's start a legit descussion as to the pros and cons so that we all have a say in the future of our league. Thank you!

Although Red's record may not show it, they have a very competitive team. Most of the teams in my opinion are very close. In someone elses opinion they do not have a "5 Level Skater" on that team. I feel they do have at least 2 from what I have seen. I would go even further to say that Red has very few lower end players. They have a mjority of fundamentally sound skaters and very few, if any weak skaters. Excellent job to the league board in keeping all the teams close. Just kiddin Lon!!!

Clearly, the Red team has become the new Orange. Each team is given 2 players that are ranked as a "5" to keep the talent balanced across the teams. Who those two players are on the Red team remains to be seen. One third of the Red roster is new additions. These players include: Joe Shellito, Sonny Steiner, Neil Rothschild, Matt Allison and Andy Wilson. Three of which came from other teams, while two are new to the league. These players have combined for 5 goals and 1 assist in 9 games. Blue's top player has 26 points and Gold's top player has 25 points so far. Red has put up 23 points towards their stats as a team. Best of luck to the Red team as they try to turn things around.
