I aimed for a more "reserved" look. I put up the grapevine wreath that Dad gave me with a nice wine-colored bow (purchased many years ago at Target), I tied matching bows on my garage carriage lights. I put out a santa and a snowman made of roofing material (bought years ago at Target to simulate a rustic look) and I finished it all off by switching the plain white lights with green party lights in the carriage lights on the garage and the one by the front door. Done. There is just no way to compete with animatonic deer and sleighs. I smile kindly at our neighbor, who has pulled out all the stops, and merely say, in a superior way, "How nice."
