I went from overseeing 573 people to a worker bee, which was not a problem the other job was a large amount of stress, only to come home to my childhood home and be treated as an idiot when I ran 4 offices at the same time. The problem they had tried all they could to fire me but I was trained well, and never cut my employees hrs. begged them to work OT, which I had to justifify every day to my boss,I was acroos the Hidson on 911 at a meeting the called the day before.I just won 1 settlement for an EEO 14 to go and a broken back to deal with.I have had my hours cut to 10 a week but I got tru it! ____________________________________________________________

Glad it wasn't forced.

Now what about that 10 hour idea? More power to you if you got your bosses convinced 10's the minimum, but it ain't. BTW. Did you ever cut your PTFs to under 10 when you were a boss?

/m919 Glad to say after you defend your 10 hour idea.

/m920 I dunno. Not all his advice is dumb. But going from boss to 17 to PTF says his bosses think he/she is.

They can't cut you to less than 10hrs a week, and you have to use your sick time, file a step 2 grievance and contact you shop steward I just got word of an EEO settlment for the same thing, after 7 yrs call class action of Pittman vs. Donahoe. Don't let them win fight and sue and keep daily journals, and everything you get sick slip etc. in triplicate. I was a 17 then transferred to a PTF position. now collecting from PO and SSD.

A lot of your problems are going to revolve around what your schedule really is/has been. PM can cut you to 4 but I'd argue you'd been getting 20 [for 6 months? 4?] and ought to be able to use that amount of leave till you get better. Was the other clerk PTF or FTR? And if PTF, what hours was she getting? Only someone with access to time records can determine if she got to use more leave than she'd been working. FMLA is limited to 12 weeks but again, that amount depends on what you'd been working, and again, you need someone local.

As a PTF, you must know there are others who will do anything to get more hours. So limiting yourself has lead to your hours being reduced. PM needs work done, doesn't want or shouldn't do that work himself, making your the odd one out.

You have to personally see local prez or craft officer; calls and texts are too easily ignored. They simply won't take you as seriously as they will as when you're in front of them whether that's by making an appt to see them, or showing up at a union meeting.

Disability retirement is hard to get. Contact one of the lawyers you see on front page of PO sites.

Frustrated with my local- no return calls/emails/txt. How can we get help when we have questions if they aren't responsive?? This seems to be the best "go-to" I have seen and I do appreciate having it available! My question: I am a PTF clerk who has been on medical restricted duty & hours since Dec. I was put on DR restricted hours of no more than 20/week with physical limitations as well. My PM decided to cut me even further and scheduled me for only 4 hrs/week. I was using my accumulated annual hours each week to have an income. I still have close to 380 hours S/L saved up. (PM refused to let me used these hours as he said they can only be used for the hours I am scheduled in the office.) He has now given me a two weeks notice that he can no longer accommodate my DR's restrictions and is taking me down to zero hours per week. He mentioned I should check into filing for disability retirement. (Will have 20 yrs this June) I have made the call to Shared Services to get the paperwork started on that. Now, am I able to start drawing from my S/L hours since I am still under DR's restrictions and it is the PM who chose not to accommodate. PM told me I can only take the 4 hrs per week that he had been scheduling me as S/L but that doesn't sound right to me. (He isn't that skilled in knowing the proper procedures in MANY of our operations). There was another clerk in our office out for a back surgery in Dec and she was able to use any amount of S/L hours she chose each week. She was closed out of our system and off of our work schedule 2 days prior to her scheduled surgery. I do have FMLA for this also and only claimed 2 hours for a specialist's appt related to the condition. PM says only good 12 weeks (I have been working and not claiming FMLA). If there is reference to this in the union book, please also include so that I can copy and give to him as back-up information. Thanks all. I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge located on this wonderful site.

Unions stick to addressing contract violations because we're not trained in disability retirements, nor EEO, etc, and generally are petrified about giving out bad advice on those issues and getting sued. So for the FMLA and other local issues, call union hall, get hold of a steward since you may wait forever if you rely on mgt to help you. Maybe make an appt with an officer because they should be able to offer up a name of a lawyer they've dealt with in the past to go further. Or they may know a kind soul in HR who won't spout the mgt line, and give you some straight info. Or contact one the the firms you can find on the front page of these postal websites.

Disability retirement requires a medical condition that can be documented that stops you from working without restrictions or limitations. And don't be in such a hurry to quit. We all know PO can really be a sucky place to work especially in the beginning, but as they say, it does get better.

"funny" thing is, once I talk to a steward, I am sure there will be MANY grievances able to be filed. (PM is a snake) And, I would rather talk someplace other than our building as I know for a fact that he had the place wired for recording conversations. I have one paper that could be turned over to the DOL as he blatantly tried to interfere with a FMLA approval. Oh, but he is sure showing me now as he has cut my hours from 26 to 4 per week after 15 years in the same office. (He has been there 4 years) I figured the simplest solution was disability retirement as this is what is in front of me now. Enough of the negativity and games. My health and piece of mind is more important.

postalvet /m909 - I get the creative part, but the poster wasn't creative, told them he wanted to ask about retirement, and asked for help. There is no disagreement about talking to a steward about "any issue they want", but are you entitled to that on the clock? No. You, like so many others, fall into the fallacy of thinking that since you "never had a problem talking with a steward, about anything" that it should and must be the same for everybody else.

oh come on you can have steward time for anything you want you just need to get creative. I never had a problem talking with a steward, about anything. a steward should be consulted with any issue they want. it is the steward that can help in a lot of these kind of cases. sorry you all play by managements rules.
