According to what I have learned, most if not all of that work should be performed by mail handlers.
But then, who knows for sure how it will end up after a National Arbitration Award that will be handed down in a year or so from now.
There is no doubt that the APWU will file at the National Level on this one.

our T-2 030 operation was gotten rid of, the jobs were abolished and clerks sent to work on T-1 and T-3 in automation. 030 on T-3 and T-1 is alive and well, a lot of mail to be worked.
although they are still in negotiations, i've heard the FSS will be given to the mail handlers.

The super-thin and fat letters are run on our afsm100, both 1st and 3rd class letters, which leaves the 030 section with about one hour of manual casing for the night. Any other p&dc's have plan to consolidation the 030 operation?

/m1374 in my facility 1st class letter mail is not run on the AFSM 100's... standard mail on occasion, but i've seen no 1st class mail. if 1st class mail comes down... we would separate it out and send it to the DPCS's, still some standard mail is sent back to the DBCS's also. of course, fletters are always sent to the AFSM 100's from the DBCS's... which is understandable.

After the burn in and being certified which is shortly after the burn in; there is no telling what management will try.
There is even a directive from USPS Hqts that says under not circumstance will letter mail that can be run on the DBCS will be run on the AFSM 100.
There is also a directive that says 1st Class manual letter mail will not be run on the AFSM 100.
Management has ingnored both those directives since they were issued.
Both are being run on the AFSM 100.
To my knowledge and I have yet to find where the APWU has grieved work being taken away from the Manual Letter Cases or from the DBCSs.
Maybe someone can englighten me as to when, where and who (APWU Local) has filed such grievances.

thanks, i should have known. i worked the AFSM 100's and they could do letter mail with no problem, should have known these new FSS's could do the same.
eliglbe for the EO now... filled out my paperwork but i'm holding back because i'm single and depend on myself. going to wait until 9/25 to send it in, IF i send it in. the window is 1 year and i expect another offer after this current one has expired (hopefully). i can't see taking this huge cut ($666.00 :/) now... i wish i could go now without any qualms. we'll see what happens.... this new FSS doesn't look good at all, but i'm sure it will take some months to get the kinks worked out...

FSS will run only 3rd class flat from the start-up. There will be no change of how first-class is process until the technology is proven.

NKC Girl,
Yeah you did.
The FSS is nothing more that a giant AFSM 100 which not only carrier routes but DPS also.
Ask any carrier about all the std letters that should have been run on the DBCS but ended up as carrier routed letters mixed in with their flats. They had to file grievances to get paid for them and from what I understand, won most of their grievances.
I have even seen WSS or ECRLOT letters and flats run on the AFSM-100 so management could get their numbers up. The problem is that it screws the carriers since it reverses the sequence making the last stop the first stop.
If they can do it on the AFSM-100 and get away with it, they will sure as hell do it on the FSS.
Loading tray after tray of letters can generate numbers on the AFSM-100 to around 20,000 pieces or more per hour and from what I can understand, the FSS is even faster. Makes managements thru put numbers higher, and the higher the numbrs the better the Pay For Performance increases they get.
Just gives management another tool to screw with the two crafts again and pit mail handler against clerk, while making themselves look good in the process.

excuse me for butting in but did i read a few pages back that this new FSS machine will be able to DPS both flats AND LETTERS? i'm a clerk DPS'ing letters at the KCMO P&DC, and currently have 38 DPS letter machines in our facility. 2 FSS machines are scheduled to come in the early spring 2009. if this is fact that this monster can DPS letters also, i think the clerks are also SOL in the future.

Well I really don't think that you honestly can call what "we" are going through and have been going through for years now Crybaby shit. People can always comment on something that they really have no idea about.

Sammy,
Everything you have heard or read about the Cincinnati Bulk Mail Center is true. We are now in the process of trying to clean out the union from Local President James Bell to the union stewards.
