Back in the 70's I read in Mother Earth News about a man in England, Charles Oats, who ran his car about 30 miles a day, to and from work, on methane he produced from a simple system he kept within the car. Basically, it consisted of a 5 gal. paint bucket, with a pour spout in the lid; an air matress covered by a sheet of plywood for pressure, tubing and a valve screwed in below the carborator. He would start his car, in the conventional way with gasoline, then, by flipping a swich on the dash, he would turn off electricity to the feul pump, and open a methane valve on the dash , as well. The methane valve at the carb was linked to the accelerator with cable. He claimed that he would typically run his 4 cylinder Hillman wagon for 3 months on 5 gal. of animal manure. I think he should have named it "The Poop Mobile". Now that Gas prices are getting soooo high, it sure makes it worth concidering.
