You constantly post ads re your games on dallas.craigslist.org's community board.

Your ads constantly get 'flagged down' because of the verbage. 'Grab life by the balls' may sound funny in the locker room, but CL is a family website (ESPECIALLY the section you post to), so naturally the readers flag down such things.

Just asking for a little consideration for the family-oriented areas.

Thank you!

I will have to see when the gym would be available. We would also have to have the gym for the entire day though if we do a tournament because two hours isn't long enough for a tournament.

Rutherford Game Map Links, Next Dodgeball Game on Saturday December 2nd from 3 PM to 5 PM

I wanted to go ahead and send this email out earlier than I normally to do because I know many people would be busy with Thanksgiving. I hope that everyone has a good Thanksgiving and has a safe trip if you will be travelling anywhere. Thanks to everyone that showed up to the game on Saturday. We had another great showing and had more players than we normally do. It's always nice to see new players and hope to see more at future games. For those that attended know that I passed out 10 flyers to all of the players and hope that you pass those out to others who would like to come play and let others know about our games. Word of mouth is the best way to let people know about our games. As many of you already know the games on Sunday January 21st and Sunday February 25th will be played at Rutherford Community Center. In order to help everyone find Rutherford I am sending the links down below. The first link is for the actual address of Rutherford. The second link are directions from Dunford to Rutherford since everyone that attends the games already know where Dunford is I felt the directions would be helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions or need help with directions.

I forgot to mention in my email that I will be printing extra flyers for the next game and will pass those out after the game. I ask that everyone help out and take ten flyers each and hand those out to their friends and others who would like to play. Don't forget the next dodgeball game is this Saturday from 3 PM to 5 PM. I am working on the schedule for January through May. If you have attended the games in the past you already may know that the games we play in January and February are played on Sundays from 3 PM to 5 PM. Beginning in March and through May the games will be back on Saturday from 3 PM to 5 PM. I needed some feedback from some of the players and see if everyone would like to play every other Saturday or would rather play just the first and third Saturday of the month. Some may argue that playing the first and third Saturday would be easier to remember, but that would probably mean about 3 or 4 games less a year and also about 3 weeks in between some games. I would like to hear anyone's thoughts about this and would like to make a decision based on what would work better for everyone. Thanks for your time and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

I would like to thank those of you that came out to the game on Saturday. We had another good showing and I hope to see even more people out at the next game on Saturday October 7th. For those of you that attended know that I passed out extra flyers to all of the players attending the game and ask that you please hand those out to your friends, family, coworkers, or anyone else that may be interested in playing. If you ran out of flyers send me an email and I will send you the attachment, so that you can print out more. Also, if there is any other ways that you can think of that will help us advertise our games please do so. It could be as simple as posting the game information on a message board that you visit on a regular basis. I have received some emails regarding a group of players that want to be on the same team with their friends. If you bring a group of players say 4, 5, or more people we can arrange it to where you can all be on the same team. What we need is more of the players bringing 2 or 3 of their friends and not just coming by themselves to help us out with attendance. If you know someone that may be interested in playing with us please have them send me an email to themoviecritic79@yahoo.com that way they can get on the email list and receive all news and reminders regarding upcoming games. If you do plan on attending the game on October 7th I ask that you please send an email and tell me how many people you will be bringing. This way I can have a better idea of how many to expect. If anyone has any questions, concerns, suggestions, or maybe something you would like to see different done at our dodgeball games please send me an email to themoviecritic79@yahoo.com and visit http://www.dallasdodgeball.com Thanks for you help and I look forward to seeing you on October 7th.

Thanks to everyone that came out to the game on Saturday. We had a good showing even though it was Labor Day weekend. The next game will be on Saturday September 16th. I know I passed out some extra flyers for the next game to some of you and ask that you please pass those out to friends, family, and your fellow employees and as always please tell others about our games. If you did not get a flyer or were not able to attend the game I am sending you an attachment for the next game and ask that you please print a few out and hand them out and post them. This would really help us out. I know some of our regular players have not showed up for months now. I am not going to name names, but you know who you are and I hope I see you at the next game. I have received many emails in the past from people saying they will be attending the game and end up not showing up, I hope you follow through and I see you at the next game as well. Everyone that has ever attended the games really seems to enjoy the games and has alot of fun. If you do plan on attending the game on September 16th I ask that you please send an email and tell me how many people you will be bringing. This way I can have a better idea of how many to expect. I just wanted to send out this email to remind everyone about the Dodgeball Game this coming Saturday March 11th. I also wanted to let every one know that along with the games that were already scheduled in March, April, and May we have scheduled an extra game that will be from 11am to 1 pm. The summer schedule is also out and I am sending that down below. During the summer we will be playing twice a month and the games will be scheduled from 11 am to 1 pm due to the change in rec hours during the summer. If there is still a high number of people attending the games we may look into the possibility of having games every Saturday. The price for the games starting in the Summer will be $5 and it looks like you are no longer required to have a rec card. We are also planning on having a dodgeball tournament sometime in June or July on a Saturday. I should have more details regarding the tournament in the coming weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to see you at the game.

I am going to contact the recreation center and try to set up a time frame and work on all the details. It will most likely be on a Saturday. Down below are the rules for our games. Please read over them before coming to the next game on Saturday Nov, 12th.

1. A team consists of five players or more (any combination of men and women). A team may have additional players that may enter in succeeding.

2. The balls will be placed at center court. Players must start behind their own baseline before the start of play.

3. A floating off-sides line will be used. This center line is the first boundary line. When throwing the ball, a player must not have either foot completely across the line when throwing. After the ball has been released, it is permitted for a player’s momentum to carry them over the boundary line, so long as they immediately return to their side of the court and do not attempt to pick up a dodgeball while on the other side of the boundary line.

4. Once either team has two or fewer players, teams may advance to the opposing team’s blue line.

5. Players will be called out if a thrown ball, hits them on the fly. The ball must hit a player below the shoulders to be considered an out. If a player is hit in the head, no player will be considered out. If a player ducks or is on the ground and is hit in the head, the player hit will be called out.

6. Players will be called out if a ball they throw is caught on the fly. If a ball is deflected off of a player, and caught by a teammate, the thrower is out.

7. Deflections off the floor, wall, court dividers, rafters, bleachers, hoop, and official do not count as an out if caught. Deflections off a teammate do count, and both players are out. If a balls hits you and then hits the wall, bleachers, or curtain and you catch it you are still out.

8. If a ball hits another ball, which a player has in their possession, it does not make either player out. If the ball is dropped as a result of contact from the thrown ball, then the player who drops the ball is out.

9. All players are confined to the field of play. Players may intentionally leave the playing area on their own side of the playing floor to retrieve a ball. If a player goes out of bounds to avoid getting out, the player will be called them out. If a ball is thrown into the bleachers, it must be given to the team that is on that side.

10. If a player is stalling, or making no attempt to play a ball, they must roll the ball to the other side. A player may be called out at the official’s or supervisor’s discretion for continuously stalling to avoid an outcome of the game.

11. Once a player is out, they must immediately leave the floor and sit on the sideline behind their own baseline. Players who have been called out can retrieve stray balls for their teammates as long as the ball is on their side and they do not step on the field of play.

12. All decisions by officials are final; ARGUING DECISIONS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Players arguing after a warning will be penalized by disqualification from the remainder of a game or match, or ejected from the game. The Supervisor will rule on any situation not specifically covered in the rules.

I am working on the schedule for the games after December. I should have it finalized within a week. It should be posted here on the site and I will also send out the game schedule in the next email. I believe the rules we added worked and the games went a lot faster and did not drag out. Please remember when you get hit or someone catches your ball leave the court and do not continue to play. I know there was a big controversy especially regarding one particular rule in many situations. I am posting that down below. If you have any questions please contact me. Please remember to look over the rules before coming to the games. If you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas on what we could do different to improve our dodgeball games please email themoviecritic79@yahoo.com

We are planning the $10k now. We might just skip the $5k and go right to the $10k.

Thoughts on prize money pay out: $8k to 1st and $2k to 2nd?

If any of you are interested in playing, I can hook you up with FREE hotel rooms for your team(s) (hotel is about 1/4 mile from the club). Let me know your thoughts.

Please visit www.virginiadodgeball.com, for info, pics and video of our previous tournaments.

We are looking for the $10k to be after the holidays, January 2006.

I can be contacted through the above website. Send me an email and I will be sure to put you on our mailing list to keep you informed of the tournament details.

Enjoy!

Yeah, I do know that she was not aware of all of the rules. I plan on having a printout of the rules at the next game not only for the players playing, but if anyone in the crowd would like to help us out and enforce the rules. I know she was only trying to help and appreciate that especially since the game is played at such a high pace its hard to see who gets out or not. I do know that there were some who were just straight out cheating and know this because I was watching when I was out of the game. I did notice alot of times someone would throw a ball and someone on the other team would catch it and the person who threw it did not realize it and stayed in the game. The person who throws the ball needs to keep track of that. Otherwise we have people throwing the ball and saying they did not see anyone catch it. For those that don't know the rules the link is at the top of the web page at www.dallasdodgeball.com under the welcome heading. The only thing that may change would be the lines. I am thinking that 5 minutes into the game we will blow a whistle which would indicate for the lines to be moved up maybe to the yellow line or even further. We will have to see how the first few games turn out to see what works best. I am going to send out an email in a week or so to see if people like playing one big game like we have been playing or want to play two separate games at the same time on either side of the court. I think enforcing the new rules the game will go by much quicker. If anyone has any opinions or ideas you can post them on the message board or email me at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com

the only reason there was really a big problem about "cheating" was because some lady was in the stands was yelling everyone that got hit by a dead ball was out, then after talking to her after the game she explained she didnt know the rules or something, she didnt understand the whole dead ball process. then her husband trying to be a good "patron" or something decides hes going to ref the games...i don tknow what that was all about...so really its not only the people playing that need to know the rules its the people in the stands that cause arising problems in games too....also while your playing sometimes you dont notice if or when you get hit by a ball or you thought it was a dead ball or something so you might keep playing, well we dont need people automatically yelling "cheater" and labeling them that because sometimes things go unnoticed, just tell them whats up...well off the cheating, i think we should split the court up also, its alot funner because of the lenght of the court. it'll make the games go by faster. then just rotate or something.

It all depends on what everyone else likes. I don't mind doing it either way. What I am thinking of doing next time to end the games faster is the first line will be the black line and the second line will be the yellow line. And the yellow line will be used when either there is 5 men on either team left or five minutes into the game and when 5 minutes is up I will blow the whistle that way people will know the line has been moved. You need to roll the ball to the other side if you are not going to throw the ball. Also, would like people to follow the rules. When you have people continuing to get out of the game and staying in either because they are flat out cheating or don't know the rules. That makes the games run longer. The rules are posted on the web site and I have handed out the rules before at previous games, so there should be no excuses. And if there are any questions about the rules you should ask before the next game.

Yeah I was thinking, maybe we could do the same thing(like the tournament),have that curtain(wall)split down the middle and have two games, goin on @ once then rotate every game, that be alot of fun ,instead of having 20 on 20...thats no fun and playing the same team for 2 hours....

maybe we could do (6 on 6) or (7 on 7)

thanks

alright guys, for good of the dodgeball league, i am here to openly apologize for any verbal offensive damage i may have caused to people here on the forums, my several impersenations of people who actually have some self esteem and dignity, was wrong and stupid of me. I hereby ban myself from saying anything, because it is usually ironic in the fact that i have characteristics of the thing i am pointing fun at. Hey its Medieval Teacher. Sticking his foot in his mouth as usual. We were wondering if you were ever going to show your face around here again. This coming from someone that talks trash over a year ago and never shows up to our games and if he does he hides behind his name and does not reveal who he is. If I did not care I probably would have not tried so hard to have the tournament. Before you shoot off your mouth next time why don't you do your homework. What you don't realize is that the Dodgeball Tournament was the recs idea and they did not follow through and wanted to cancel it. But since I said we were going to have the tournament and everyone was looking forward it and I determined to have it because I did not want anyone to be disappointed. Also, what you don't realize is that they called me saying it was cancelled a second time about a week before the tournament because they gave the gym to someone else that rented it and they forget to book our date. If I don't care and only care about my team as you claim why did I try so hard to have the tournament. And why do I spend hours advertsing the games and posting flyers around the area to let people know about the games and I am not even getting paid for it.

I appreciate everyone who showed up today for the tournament. I believe it went about as well as it could for having a time constraint of two hours and having an unknown number of teams show up. Congratulations to Who Cares - the winners of the tournament. Ten teams were in attendance (fifty players) with a total of 84 people including spectators and supporters! Thank you for understanding if things weren't perfect. For the next tournament we plan to schedule more time, have pre-registration, brackets and maybe refs. We will continue to strive for a balance between fun and competition, while keeping it affordable for everyone.

Northside Ballers plan to be there by 2:15-2:30. We can try to bring some gatoride or something in a cooler for everyone, so we dont have to buy it from the machine.

Plus that way we can dump it on the capitan of the winning team(so long as that team is the Northside Ballers).

My friend actually got one of those once. He was having this HUGE halloween party, and the guy was dressed up as a gargoyle. I walking right up to him when I came in because he was standing still and the costume was so well done that I couldn't tell he wasn't a statue. Then he kind of yelled 'BOO!' and jumped out at me, scared the shit out of me. Well, thats my story for today. T-minus 24 hours until the tourny.

I would again like to thank Chico's Bail Bonds and Critters Ridders for sponsoring our dodgeball tournament. I would also like to thank our new sponsor: Rent A Midget. Please remember to thank our sponsors and be sure to give them your business. And now heres a word from our sponsor Rent A Midget.

What's the one thing sure to liven up any party? How about a midget? The midget entertainment options range from "Midget Strip Shows, to Christmas Cookie Servers or Office Pranks." As shocking and slightly cruel as the idea sounds, I suppose it's no different than what circuses have been doing for centuries (i.e. using midgets as entertainers).

YES THIS IS FOR REAL!!!

We also install vapor- barriers, Vent covers, attic fan covers, roof vent covers, weep hole vents, Automatic Temp-Vents® [foundation vents], Almetal™ dryer vents and wood or plastic access doors, your choice. This just names a few of our services.

Someday, somewhere
I`m gonna catch up with you
Someway, somehow
You`re going down

You may believe you`re gonna get away
But you can`t hide from me
I`m all around and I`ll find you
Don`t think you can run away
On the run you won`t get far
Turn your head and you will get a ball in your face.

Someday, somewhere
I`m gonna catch up with you
Someway, somehow
You`re going down

You know I`m out to get you
Your head for a price, ain`t it nice
I believe you said something wrong one day
Made your presence unwanted
And then became the hunted
What a fool

I`m all around and I`ll find you
Don`t think you can run away
On the run you won`t get far
Turn your head we are everywhere

Of course I don`t care who you are
What you`ve done, what you`ve said
I don`t give a damn who you are
I take pride in my work
I`ve done this before

Your cry for mercy is noticed
And written down for reference
In this, the hour of your death
I`ve got no time to listen to your prayers
I`ve got a goal, to complete my work
I am the one, the bounty hunter of mankind

Someday, somewhere
I`m gonna catch up with you
Someway, somehow
You`re going down

I don`t give a damn who you are
I take pride in my work
I`ve done this for ages
You see, they call us The Headhunters

Of course I don`t care who you are
What you`ve done, what you`ve said
I don`t give a damn who you are
I take pride in my work
I`ve done this for ages

It starts at 3 pm and ends at 5 pm. Be sure to come early so we can get started on time. The courts are smaller when we play on two different courts. The black line is the first bundary and the blue line is the second boundary when there are two or fewer members on any team.

Northside Ballers are checking in. We've got our 5, and we're currently holding practices. we've hit the weight-room hard doing some trophy-curls for when we have to raise that trophy high, along with some mop cleans, for when we mop the floor with the competition(i use the word very loosely, competition ussually involves a challenge).

Now people, I ask you to ask yourselves a question. Probe deep inside, this is some self-examination stuff.

Are you ready?

In 1972 a crack comando unit was sent to prison by a dodgeball court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security gym to the Dodgeball Leagues Underground. Today , still wanted by the government they survive as ballers of fortune. So, if you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them, maybe you can hire..... THE A -TEAM

We are going to suck? only 3 of the A-team, matt, jeremy, and his uncle, and like 5 of his family members(who havn't played dodgeball for probably 10 years, one is 7 years old) beat "who cares" + you and dad in the first game of the game on sat., then continuously pounded you from then on out. and where were you in the games,we called you "reserve", because we only took out top priorities (who cares) before attending to your ass whooping, that's y u think u stayed in that long, because we weren't even going for u. So don't get your hopes up, without the 'who cares' on your team, what chance of staying in longer than 2 min do you have?

Pray for mercy

The A Team lol. You do know you actually have to dress up like the A Team to be able to participate in the tournament. Someone is going to have to dress up as BA (Mr. T) with the mohawk and the gold chains. Murdock (Crazy Man) dress up funny like in a chicken suit or something and act all crazy. Templeton (Faceman) disguise yourself. And don't forget Hannibal the leader of the A Team. Come in a white wig and come with a cigar in your mouth as he always would. What? Only four you say. Don't worry if you remember or if you were even born you may remember that Hulk Hogan was on a few episodes so someone is going to have to dress up as Hulk Hogan. I can't wait to see you guys dressed up LOL!!! It is going to be hilarious.

The prize for the winning team will be slightly used pairs of jock straps donated by the local used sporting goods store. Word of advice though you may want to wash them before you wear them. If we are going to play only five per a team I know we should have at least 4 teams now which include The Headhunters, Northside Ballers, The A Team, and Who Cares. By the showing we have had at previous games we should be able to have at least 6 teams. I know most teams will want to play the entire time. So what we may consider doing is have four teams start and the winning teams keep playing until they lose. This will reward the teams that are doing good.

Instead of brackets, we will be playing round robin to maximize the number of games played. More info at http://www.dallasdodgeball.com. To answer a prior message: there can be more than four teams in the tournament, depending on how many people show up.

it depends on how long the games are I think. if we split the gym in half we can have two games going on at a time. A 5 on 5 game will go much quicker than the massive free-for-alls we've had, especially if we have a rule about holding balls for more than 5 seconds without throwing(i saw them use it on some game on tv, seemed to work pretty well). we could have maybe as many as 8 teams if our games are short. 4 teams playing with 4 teams resting/watching. Or if we can't get that many teams, maybe 6 or so and make it a round-robin.

A good free bracket-making site is www.bracketmaker.com , maybe it can help you guys while planning the tournament.

Thanks for everyone that came to the game today. It looks like we may have four teams to play at the tournament those teams include The Headhunters, Northside Ballers, The A Team, and Who Cares. For those of you who don't have a team that show up for the tournament on August 20th. There will be a draft to see what team you will play on. I will post the brackets to see which teams will play each other in the first rounds. Please be sure to show up early, so we can get started at 3 PM. For more details on the tournament please look at my previous post or email me if you have any questions for me.

Hey Robert one of my friends is coming with me and Tom (my step-dad) on saturday... i think we should pick him up for the tournament... he plays baseball and can throw pretty hard... and can catch pretty good... i guess we will just see how he plays on Saturday... and the Headhunters is an awesome name!! i like it alot!! we are going to rule that tourny... have any more teams called and signed up yet???

I was thinking "THE HEADHUNTERS". If anyone needs any help picking a team name please email me (themoviecritic79@yahoo.com) I have plenty of good team names. If we do have enough time after the tourney I figured it would work best to have one winner team paired with one loser team against the other winner/loser.

sounds like a good idea... good luck to all the teams... and to the two teams... ya'll should show up on the 6th just for practice and to see what ur competition is... what is our team name going to be Robert? 07-26-2005 02:10 AM ET (US)
What do you mean who else??? We won't need anyone else lol. We can try and get Jeremy. Don't forget everyone the tournament is Saturday August 20th from 3 to 5 PM at Dunford Community Center in Mesquite. Unfortunately we only have two hours to play, so again please show up on time. Begin to form your teams now. Due to time constraints we will most likely play with 4 teams. So far we have two teams lined up to play "The Headhunters" and "The Northside Ballers. Please email me at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com once you have formed your team at let me know your team name and team members. For those of you who do not have a team you can make arrangements at the next Dodgeball Game on Saturday August 6th. All the remaining players after that or players that show up the day of the tournament will be put on a team. We way I figured it would work best is that the four teams will be ranked 1 through 4 via a random drawing to take place at the Dodgeball Game on August 6th. On the day of the tournament team 1 will play team 4 on one side of the gym in a best of 7 series, while on the other side of the gym team 2 will play team 3 in a best of seven series. After both series have concluded another round will start where Winner Vs Winner and Loser Vs Loser takes place in a best of seven series. For example if team 1 beats team 4 and team 2 beats team 3, in the next round (WINNERS) team 1 would play team 2 and (LOSERS) team 3 would play team 4. In the Winners series the winner would be the champions of the tournament and the loser would be second place. In the Loser series the winner would take third place and the losers would take fourth place. I have no idea how long this will take, but if we have any time remaining we could do something like team 1 and 2 VS team 3 and 4, or team 1 and 4 VS team 2 and 3. I know this may be confusing so if anyone has any questions or suggestions please email me at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com

Hey Robert... who all is going to be on your Team on the 20th? Me, Tom, My bro, you, and who else? we are going to rule this tournament... its going to be awesome... you should make a 10 dollar entry fee and the winning team takes home the money... then more teams would enter i think... anyway... ill be there at the next one and at the tourny... post soon... thanks...

hey guys, i went to the june game(my first one), had a really great time. Me and some friends are definately going to be there on the 20th, should be awesome. I'll try to make it with some of them on the 5th as well. I couldn't make this last one because i've been in Finland/Estonia for the entire month of July. Boy do i love vodka and sweedish girls.

Anyway, the 'am I out' guy is my dad. don't worry, i gave him a ton of crap about it on the car ride home. plus during one of the games, rather than taking a hit to the shins and go to the sidelines, he layed out to avoid it and did a bellyflop on the gym floor(and promptly got hit in the face by a 12 year old). in the process, as we found out the next morning, he broke 2 of his ribs. so i doubt he will be back next time. plus he can pout sometimes when he loses and its better that we keep this games fun.

It looks like we have our second team formed called the "Northside Ballers". Please remember to form your teams before August 20th. Depending on how many people show up there will most likely be 5 or 6 people per a team. Since we only have from 3 to 5 PM for the tournament everyone needs to get there on time, so we can start right at 3 PM. Anyone that is not on a team will be assigned to one. Here are some details regarding how the tournament will be run from a previous post. Every team will need a team captain and the captains will be in charge of helping run the games. If you have any questions or have any suggestions regarding the tournament please email me at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com.

DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT SATURDAY AUGUST 20TH

What we can do is divide the people who show up on the 20th into teams and we can lower the curtain to separate the games. That way we can play two different games best of seven or something like that. And then when both series of games are over the winners will play each other and the losers will play each other. That way we could rank the teams 1-4. We would need at least 20 people to show up. If 30 people show up we could have 6 people per a team. Everyone let me know what you think and also what rules you think we should change regarding the lines and when to move them during the game.themoviecritic79@yahoo.com

Yeah, I will be on the team with you. I had actually talked to Tom about us being on the team along with Jeremy (Pick 3) who played with us last year for about the first 3 or 4 games. I am still waiting to hear back from the rec and see if they have gotten enough people from to play in the touranment. Even if we don't have a touranment we will still get use of the gym on August 20th. So touranment or not we will be playing on August 20th. I will try calling the rec and see what is going on. Talk to you later and I will see you on Saturday.

This is just a reminder to let everyone know about the dodgeball game next Saturday on July 9th at the Dunford Community Center in Mesquite, TX. More details are down below. We have also scheduled games up through December, so please look down below for those dates. Please pass this information along to others who would also like to play and bring your friends to the next game. The dodgeball tournament is still scheduled for Saturday August 20th, however the recreation center has not got back with as to whether it will take place or not. If for some reason it does not take place I have been told that we will still have use of the gym for our regular time from 3 to 5 pm. So tournament or not we will also be playing on Saturday August 20th, please mark your calendars. Teams will most likely be made up of 5 players per a team. Begin to form your teams now and pick a team name. At our last dodgeball game we had many games that would end up with 3 or fewer people on each side and the games would seem to drag on and limit our game time. In order to reduce this I am thinking about moving the lines up and also earlier in the game. If anyone has any suggestions as far as rules changes you think would improve our games please contact me. If you have any questions please email themoviecritic79@yahoo.com or go to www.dallasdodgeball.com

Dodgeball Game XIII
Who: You and your friends, or your enemies
When: July 9th (Saturday)
Where: Mesquite, Texas - Dunford Community Center (near 30 and LBJ about a mile down the road from Trophy Nissan) 1015 Green Canyon Dr, Mesquite Texas 75150
Time: 3 - 5:00 PM
Bring: Athletic wear and a sportsmanlike attitude. Bring a dodgeball if you have one.
Cost: $2

Notes: The court rental is from 3:00 to 5:00. Arrive a few minutes early so that we can organize and start playing at 3:00. If you are planning to play, please (email: themoviecritic79@yahoo.com) and let me know how many people you will be bringing (if any). Standard dodgeball rules apply. Cross the center line and you are out. Get hit by a ball and you are out. Catch a ball and the person who threw it is out. When either team is down to two players then the lines are moved forward to the blue free-throw lines, creating a no-man's land in the middle. When the game starts, players rush to the center line to secure balls for their team, but players must check back to the wall before throwing at the opposing team.

I am sending out this email regarding the upcoming football game on Sunday January 2nd. At the next game we will be taking donations to go towards the purchase of an official Wilson NFL football. This is the game ball that the NFL actually uses in the game. I figured everyone could chip in a few bucks and we would eventually have enough to buy a ball. Anything that you could contribute would be appreciated. The football is made of quality leather and tends to be more durable and should last us awhile. It is not mandatory to donate any money it is only on a volunteer basis. I don’t want anyone to feel they have to. Donations can be made to the white bucket marked DONATIONS at the gate where you enter field. As far as referees goes we are still looking for volunteers to help us referee. There were some questionable cases that we could have used an unbiased opinion at our last game. If anyone knows of anyone that could help us out please let me know. I would prefer someone with previous referee experience, but not needed. However, they must know the general rules of football. We are also still looking for ways to tell the two different teams apart. If anyone has any ideas or if I could get everyone at the game to bring a white shirt and a black shirt, I think this would work out since most people at least have one black and one white shirt. I am also looking for cones or something that we can mark the end zones and first down yard lines. With the recent change in weather I have been asked will we play if it gets cold, my answer to that is that we will play as long as it is not lightning. Just be sure you bring extra clothing if it gets cold. As many may have noticed we had a very good showing at our last game, 30 people to be exact. I have received more emails regarding our football games and also have posted info about our games on some web sites message boards which have been viewed by numerous people. Due to this I wanted to plan ahead in the event more people show up than our last game. My feeling is that we could use as many people as possible and would like to thank again the people that have been telling people about our games and bringing their friends. If more people do show up say around 44, we could do a variety of things and wanted everyone’s input before I decide what to do. If around 44 people show up we could do one of two things: either have 22 people per a team while 11 on the team play offense and 11 play defense and play one game or the second option would be if enough people show up to play to divide the people that show up into four separate teams while everyone would play offense and defense. Each team would be given a number or could choose a team name. For example Team 1 would play Team 4, while Team 2 would play Team 3. The winners of the games would play each other while the losers would play each other which would allow each team to play in two games. These games would be played on a 50 yard field just as in Arena Football. We could also have an option where 11 teams per a team and any extra players over that could be subs and would sub for someone when they wanted a break or got tired. Again this is just a precautionary measure in the event that more people show up. I think the 15 yards or 20 yards to get a first down rather than two completions to get a first down worked much better and we should continue doing this. This allowed both teams to also have a running game rather than just a passing game and provided a much more exciting and fun game The next game we should also have kick offs as you see in any football game and if anyone has a football tee that we could use please bring it to the game. Also, there will be punting if you wish and do not want to try for a first down. I am thinking at first it would be better to allow free punts and as we get better later on we will be allowed to block punts. Instead of the quarterback starting with the ball there should be a center that hikes the ball just as you see in football. Getting the ball from the center to the quarterback is a very important part of the game and I would like to see us do this at our next game. If I have missed anything you can think of please let me know. Please take a few minutes to send your feedback and if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions send me an email to themoviecritic79@yahoo.com. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you at the game on the 2nd.

Football Game Update on Sunday Dec. 19th: Distingiush Teams, Referees, and Rules?

I have discussed with some of you things that you would like to do in our football games. One of the things discussed and I agree with is that it would be nice if we could some how distinguish the different teams. We could do shirts and skins lol, but I think it will probably be to cold for that. I have access to blue colored hair nets that one team could wear that could easily distinguish the teams if no one would mind wearing them or we could have everyone bring a white t-shirt and wear a dark colored shirt and just separate the teams into light and dark colored shirts. If anyone has ideas please let me know. I have also been contacted by someone that saw a post for a game and asked if we could use a referee he wanted to charge us, but that got me to thinking that maybe we could find someone who would volunteer referee for us. Before I do this I want to see if there would even be any interest to have someone help us out and referee our games. If so please let me know and maybe that is something we could consider for future games. If there is I can put on our next flier for our game on Sunday January 2nd that volunteer referees are needed and they can email me if they want to help. I know there are different rules on how we could play and wanted some feedback on things such as rushing the QB, QB running, how to get a first down whether it be two completions or a certain distance, pass interference, and any other things you can think of. I know some of you said you will be bringing friends to the next game and wanted to thank you for the help. It is hard getting people to play and I appreciate the help. Some of you have asked me how many people you can bring to the game and my answer to you is that you can bring as many people as you would like because we could use as many players as possible. If you bring friends please make sure they sign in at the game on Sunday and that I get their email address, so I can put them on my email list for information about future games. If you need to reach me please send me an email to themoviecritic79@yahoo.com. Thanks for your time and I hope to see you at the game this Sunday on the 19th.

I am just sending out this reminder to let everyone know that our next football game is in one week on Sunday December 19 at Kimbrough Middle School Football Field. Kimbrough is located at 3900 North Galloway Mesquite, Texas 75150. For those of you that don't know the field is behind the school across the bridge. I know there was confusion last time as far as parking goes. You can either park behind Kimbrough or Beasley Elementary school and walk across the bridge to get to the football field. We had about 20 people show up at our game on December 5th and everyone had alot of fun. I am hoping for another good showing and could use everyone’s help to get the word out about the game. Please let your friends know about the game and bring them along. If anyone would like a flier for our upcoming game that you can print out and hand to friends let me know. I have found about 9 more people interested in playing with us and have added them to the email list. I would like to play at least every other Sunday, but the only way we can do that is to have people continue to show up and tell your friends. I was very surprised at the showing of people at our last game and can't wait for Sunday. If anyone has any suggestions as far as what rules you would like added or what we could do different at our games please let me know. One thing I would like to do is after we have touchdowns to do kickoffs just like in regular football, so if anyone has a tee please bring it at the next game so we can use it. I hope to here back from you and I will see you at the game on Sunday.

What was everyone's opinion of the pins and what else would you like to see in the future, this being either rule changes or things added to the game like we did pins for this last game. I felt using pins added more strategy to the game. One of the complaints I here from alot of people is that we don't play enough and I agree with them. Our plan was to try to have a game every other week which is why we had a donation bucket for this last game. It cost $30 dollars to rent the gym and we were not even close to raising that much. I know of only two people who actually donated money and I would like to thank you again. Maybe if we could raise $15 at every game we could arrange to have a game every other week. I even gave examples to people on how they could raise money for donations. To see what they were look back at my previous post. I would like to thank the three guys from Stephenville who came to the game. I am not sure if anyone is aware of this, but Stephenville is 120 miles away. I hope these guys come back because it was exciting playing with new players. I was disappointed that not as many people showed up as in the past. We were still throwing the balls around still at 7:15 hoping that enough people would show up. I don't know why we had such a poor showing maybe because it was our first game on a Tuesday or maybe because people had prior obligations, but if three guys from Stephenville can drive 120 miles to play a game of dodgeball I certainly don't see why we are not having more people come to the games. I know I have said this before in the past, but tell your friends about the games we hold and anyone else that may be interested in playing. Also, I make fliers for each game that we have and have had them posted at local business, hand them out to friends and have contacts that I have that post them for me. If you are in high school or college you can probably help us out the most of all since you are in the age groups that may be most interested in playing. If you want you can send me your email address and I can send you a flier for our games. Also, since we have been playing we have busted 4 four balls two in the last game alone and either Dunford did not give us all the balls this time or they are not replacing the ones we have busted. That is why that I ask that you BYOB, no not bring your own beer, but bring your own balls and I am not talking about the two in between your legs. If you have a dodgbeall at home or want to go buy one at store (I think they only cost about 4 or 5 dollars) please bring it to the next game. I don't even know when our next game will be, but I am hoping soon. I want to see how many people plan on trying to attend the next and if you plan on bringing any friends and how many . If you need to reach me you can contact me at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com. Talk to you later.

If you will be attending the dodgeball game on Tuesday October 12 again it cost no money, but we ask that you make donations to the white bucket you will see at the game marked DONATIONS. If we raise thirty dollars at the game we can have another game in two weeks, instead of the usual one game a month. If we raise at least thirty dollars at every other game there is the possibility of having a game every other week. Also, at the game you will see a sign in sheet. The purpose of this is to keep the players informed on when are next game will be by sending out an email. It is hard enough since we don't have a set schedule and our games are based on the availability of the gym. This should cut down on the problem of people not knowing when the game will be and missing out.
I ask that both players who have attended the games and new players please try to help us out with donations and sign up even if we have your email address so we can update our mailing list. Please also tell your friends so that can help us out with donations and we can get their contact info as well Thanks for the help and I will see you at the game on Tuesday.

I know we are going to try to raise thirty dollars at our next game and was just thinking of what else we could do in order to raise enough money. Here are a few of my ideas I came up with.

1.Donate your brain to science. Hey after Tuesday’s game you will get hit in the head so many times you won’t need it any more.
2.Three Words: Nude Car Wash.
3.Every time you kill a guy, put a nickel in a jar.
4.Cutting your own hair is a great way to save money.
5.For the next six months do nothing but check local pay phones in your area for change.
6.In order to save gas money you could buy yourself a cadaver, so you can drive in the HOV lane and with the money you save on gas you could donate.
7.If all else fails you could always sell your blood.

I have nothing but fond memories of playing dodgeball in school and am glad to be playing again. From my experience of playing in school there are different types of players. As I begin to play more I am beginning to recognize the same type of players from my days of playing in elementary school. Here are the different types of players as I see it. Which one are you? I hope you enjoy it.

Runners- They get the ball from the opponents hands to the stash your team accumulates. Or they are the ones that fear for their lives because they are on someone's hit list.

Hitters- These are usually the jocks. They like to nail the runners, who are usually people of a different school social status, or hit other hitters as a joke or as a sign of showing that they are the best (very primitive). They usually are hit last

Sitters- Usually consisting of girls, as the boys always like to show off (or stay alive). They always stand around behind the hitters and talk. They are usually the last ones to get out because they are in the back, or the first, because someone throws a good shot into a crowd. Sitters also provide good cover for...

Hiders/Dodgers- These are the guys that would be runners, but want to save energy for a more interesting situation. Usually only intense D-Ball players are hiders/dodgers (me), or girls that actually throw the ball sometimes.

You could win by either knocking out everybody on the other team OR knocking down the cones.

Dodgeball IV and V
We had a very good turnout for Dodgeball IV played on September 15th. Dodgeball V will be played on a new night - Tuesday (October 12th)! Also new for Dodgeball V: Bowling pins! You may remember bowling pins from your grade-school PE classes. You must guard your pins from the opposing team while trying to knock down your opponent's pins. There a several variations to the rules regarding bowling pins in dodgeball, especially concerning when the game ends. Does it end when all players are out on a team, when all the pins are knocked down, or both? Discuss how you think we should play in our forum.

I am not sure if anyone is aware of this, but Dodgeball is not an Olympic Sport. I was at first shocked and appalled when I first found this out. After I got over my grief. I did further research and found that there our actually talks of Dodgeball becoming an Olympic event. I am currently looking to see if there is a petition that could be signed to help further this cause. I still can't believe it though. I mean just look at some of the sports that are in the Olympics currently Canoe, Table Tennis, and Trampoline just to name a few. What kind of idiots do they have running the Olympics? Which got me to thinking if I ran the Olympics what sports would I have in my Olympics. Down below I have compiled a list of Summer and Winter Sports I would have in my Olympics. Feel free to add your own and send your suggestions. I hope you enjoy them and I will see you all at the next Dodgeball game.

Summer Olympics

Miniature Golf
Monkey Bars
Midget Wrestling
Mobile Phone Hurl
Parafencing
Bungepong
Pantless Pole Vault
Hide the Javelin
Catch the Javelin
Tug of War
The Short Jump
Sand Crab Volleyball
Ballooning
Pool Vaulting
Ooze Ball
Mud Wrestling
Jello Wrestling
Dodgeball
Watermelon Seed Spitting

Winter Olympics

Downhill Butt-Slide
Naked Bobsled
Co-ed Naked Bobsled
Women's Nude Luge
Puddle Jumping
Ice Fishing
Tonsil Hockey
Ice Scraping
Hurling
Toboggan Noggin

I understand Jugster. Just be sure your wife does not read these boards because she may kill you if she saw that you said she was going over board. I would be willing to go to Addison for a tourney as long as we planned it ahead of time, so I could make arrangements to attend. I still have not heard back from the guy from Plano who claims he plays twice a week with a group of 15 to 20 guys. My thought was to see if they could play with us, so we could play with new players and maybe one game we could have 5 or 6 of their best players against our best players. But like I said I posted a message to him on the dodgeball meetup at it took him a month to even reply back and since then I have sent him three emails asking him to reply back but have heard nothing. I guess he is scared of us lol. Does anyone know what rules they gp by in Addison? Are they the same as ours or different?

The kid with the bloody nose was my kid. I really didn't mean to bring him but my wife went over board when I said he could go. I mentioned it about a week before the game in a serious but not expecting to be taken up on the offer. She then told the mom of the red head kid and I was stuck. I don't know if they will play again because they are a bit to young.
I do want my son to get a bloody nose and to play with older people. I believe that people wont learn how to deal with pain and embarrasment if they never feel it. Anyways I digress.

What do you guys think about getting our best 5 or 6 guys that are over 18 and playing in the Addison tourney some weds night? One week when we don't have anything scheduled it would cool to see where we stand.

Yeah, I was concerned too when I saw younger kids. From observing them it looked like they had a real good time though and I would like to give credit to the kid that did receive a bloody nose. He left the game to wipe the blood off and still kept playing. I don't think there are many people who would have kept playing. I don't want to see age limits either, but would like everyone to take it easy on the younger ones and remember it usually does not take your hardest throw to get them out. Jim the past two games we have played have been from 7 to 9 pm and both games have fallen on Wednesday. I think the original plans were to play at least once a month. Just be sure to check the web site for updated game information. I know another game is in the works and I am hoping for an announcement very soon. Please tell your friends about our games and tell them to check out the web site. I hope to see you at our next game and hope your friends come along. Talk to you later.

I was much less sore after the second time we played. As for girls/women playing, that sounds good to me. As for smaller kids, I was concerned about the yourger ones myself, especially after the one received a bloody nose in the last game. I don't want to set an age limit, but if you are the parent of a child wanting to play, please use your best judgment. These games consist mostly of adults age 16 and over, and some can throw pretty hard.

Yeah I was sore after our first game which is why I stretched before this last game and in fact I think I may have been the only one which is how you will be able to recognize me at the next game lol. As far as introducing ourselves I would also like to get a chance to know everybody's name and at least get to know a little bit about everybody. Maybe not though because when you are pounding someone with the ball do you really care to know their name I mean knowing someone’s name makes it that much harder to throw the ball at somebody and take them out. Just kidding. I like the suggestion and if time would allow maybe we could do this. These forums give us the opportunity to do this and I wish more people would take advantage of this. The only people that I have seen take advantage of this on a consistent basis is Tom, Jugster, and me. Yes, females are welcome to play. I was actually wondering if there would ever be any females to come and play because up to this point it has been all males. I have actually invited some people to come play dodgeball and the first thing they ask me is if there are going to be any women there lol. We are planning our next game and it should be posted on the web site very soon, so please tell your friends about the web site and keep checking the site and be sure to join our mailing list. We could always use more players. Thanks for showing up at our last game and I hope to see you and your friends at the next one.

Hello,

I made it to your games last week and really enjoyed it. I'm glad that you are doing this. But dang, I was sore for the next few days! Definitely stretch beforehand!

If I may make a couple of suggestions. I wasn't really sure who was in charge and would just like to encourage those that are setting this up to make an effort to introduce themselves. I only say this because I would have liked to have met the people and give my rental donation.

Plus, I worry about smaller kids playing. I know it's all in fun but the reality of it is, balls are thrown hard and kids with bloody noses is now a reality. Maybe either acclimate the rules toward smaller ones or set up a separate game.

In addition, I know I haven't seen anything about it, but some female friends of mine are actually interested in playing. So is there a 'rule' against that or does it really matter? I figure not but just wanted to be sure.

Thanks again,

I have not heard back from him, so I went ahead and sent him another email. I will let everyone now if I hear back from him. Again he claims to play with 15 to 20 players twice a week in Plano. I told him we are planning another game soon and that he needs to get back with me as soon as possible. Since school is fixing to start I figured we may lose some players and hopefully this will give us a chance to play with new players so we can keep playing. I have been in contact with one of the guys that works in intramural sports at UTA and although he said he can't post any fliers he said he can tell the students by word of mouth. I am also thinking of contacting the principals at Mesquite high schools if it looks like we lose too many players and are in need of more people. The turnout has been good for the past two games, although I would have liked more this past game seeing as their was mention of us in both the Dallas Morning News and Mesquite newspaper. I think we lost some people since the last game, but gained some as well. I talked to a few players this last time and they said they found out about the game through the newspaper or by the fliers that I printed up and left up there at Dunford which I plan on also doing for our next game. Hopefully being front page on the Mesquite News will help us bring more players this time. If any one else has any ideas on how we can bring in new players please let me know.

If you have attended one of our dodgeball games in the past or plan on attending one in the future please send me an email at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com. I am sure you all have heard that Dodgeball III is in the works. Please keep checking the web site to see when we will play next and please tell your friends about our games and the web site. Also, about two months ago I sent a message through dodgeball meetup to a guy in Plano who says he plays with about 15 to 20 other guys and is interested in playing in a tournament or playing against other teams. Again I sent him thismessage about two moths ago and he is just getting back to me, so who knows if I will even here back from him. I sent him an email telling him that we play in Mesquite and to get back with me. Would anyone be interested in playing against him? Please let me know. I am also looking for suggestions as to what we could do different at our next game. It could be anything thing from rules to how we operate. One thing I would like to suggest is that when you get out of the game stay off the court. Last time it was hard to tell who was in and who was out. Talk to you later.

Hey, we were on the front page of the Mesquite News on Thursday 8/05/2004!

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=...ept_id=528206&rfi=6

Movie spawns interest in dodgeball
Movies tend to create unique fads.

The Star Wars series created an army of stormtrooper/jedi knight wannabes, dressing the part and going to conventions.

The movie "Swingers" created an interest in the big band swing music of the 20s.

And, recently the movie "Dodgeball - A True Underdog's Story" has the country playing a bygone junior high physical education elimination game.

The interest appeared in Mesquite recently as Wednesday night, a group of dodgeball enthusiasts gathered at Dunford Community Center to play.

But unlike the movie - where the team from Globo Gym tried to embarrass and humiliate the team from Average Joe's - the dodgeball games at Dunford are simply for fun and relaxation.

Postal worker Tom Wakefield saw the movie and remembered playing the game as a young man.

So, he decided to create an Internet forum looking for people who might be interested in playing.

"The movie provided the impetus," he said. "I posted a little page on the Web asking if people would be interested in playing. I didn't even register it with the search engines, but still people found me and wanted to play."

Last week, Wakefield said about 20 people showed up to play.

And play they did ... almost immediately.

"Everyone got there and started talking about choosing up sides," he said. "But before any of that could happen, we rolled 12 balls on the floor and everyone went to a side and we just started playing. It was the most fun I've had since the fifth grade."

The movie prompted a general interest in dodgeball - a game involving combatants trying to hit their opponents with red, rubber balls to eliminate them from the game.

The game takes varying forms, but the general premise remains the game - the team whose last member is eliminated loses the round.

However, the thrower can be eliminated if the person he or she is trying to hit catches the ball.

The game's detractors say it is nothing more than an attempt for stronger players to prey on weaker ones.

Still, Wakefield said it shouldn't have been eliminated from P.E. programs.

"It takes skill, strategy and intelligence," he said. "And, I play racquetball and I'm in pretty good shape. But it [dodgeball] is a pretty good work out. There were people saying they were very sore because they were using muscles they hadn't used in a long time with all of the stopping and starting."

A restaurant/club in Addison has actually formed dodgeball leagues with teams, schedules and everything.

Wakefield said he's really not concerned with structured league play because of the costs involved and the liability waivers that would have to be established.

"If you get into leagues, then it's $35 a team or something and uniforms and insurance and whatever," he said. "We just want to keep it fun and unstructured. Besides, the Addison league is at a bar and that's certainly no place to take kids. If you want to play in a league, go to Addison. If you want to play and have fun, we can do it this way."

There is a risk involved in playing dodgeball - some players throw harder than others. But Wakefield said the injury risk is not that great - at least from the flying dodgeballs.

"I think in our games, players would be more likely to sprain and ankle or something than they would be likely to get hurt by the balls."

Wakefield was even a little reluctant to talk about the dodgeball and Dunford for fear it might begin to grow out of control.

He said he has two nationally recognized Web sites, but he has been amazed at the responses from the simple dallasdodgeball.com forum.

"I had someone drive all the way over from Arlington to play," he said. "It really has been amazing."

I agree. I think we did have too many balls last time. If we cut down on balls it would lead to a more strategic game. I don't really want to add many rules. In fact we should enforce the rules before making new ones. Like staying in bounds and running off the court to avoid getting hit. Just like the boundary lines we use to separate the teams. You cross them and you are out, you cross the sideline boundaries you should be out also. Also, the lines should be moved up at a certain time in a match. For example five minutes into the match the lines should be moved up. The way we were doing it last time when two guys left on either side and the lines moved gave the team with more guys an unfair advantage. It would be easy. We could ask someone from the rec to blow a whistle a certain amount of time into the match. However the 5 or 10 second rule would be harder to enforce for the time being, We would need referees to enforce this. How many people are you bringing with you Jugster? Thanks for taking the time to post and I will see you next Wednesday.

I will be there again this Weds.

I don't know about adding to many more rules. I would cut down on the number of balls we use however. I think we should use 6 or so. That would make every throw even more important.
Just an idea.

Also if we have 20 people whow up maybe we could split up into 4 teams and then play a small tourney. The games go so quick we could actually get 5 tourneys done if we wanted.

We are just getting started and this will be only are second game. Tournament setup is something maybe we could consider for the future, but not at the present time. We are still discussing rules at this time and are looking for suggestions. I hope to see you and your friends at the game on August 4 and want to thank you for taking the time to come to the web site and posting your thoughts here. If you have any suggestions as far as rules go please feel free to

Hey I saw the little notice in the Mesquite News, I could get lots of people to play, but almost everybody I've told said they would only play if could be a tournament setup, with teams. If you plan a tournament there will be a better turnout.

I am glad to see that more people are making posts and I hope I continue to see it. I know our last dodgeball game was probably your first game in a long time and we were playing for fun. I think we should add some rules in order to improve our game and make it more exciting. I think there should be a 5 or 10 second limit as to how long you can hold the ball. This will make the game quicker paced. I also want to do this due to the fact that last time we played I heard comments that it was getting boring when there was no one throwing and we were just waiting for each other to throw. I believe this will eliminate that and you will find that many leagues use this rule. As far as the boundaries go. I think everyone did a good job of following all the boundaries except for the sideline boundaries. Please remember as in the middle line on the court that you are not suppose to step across the sideline boundaries or you are out. We may have a rule where players may leave the boundaries only to retrieve stray balls or may have it where your teamates who have been eliminated can only retrieve the balls on their side. This way even though they are out of the game they can still help out their team and hopefully pay more attention to what is going on. When we move up the lines I think we should move them up at a certain time during the match. For example if we play a 10 minute game the lines should move up at 5 minutes or in a 8 minute game at 4 minutes, not when there are only two people left on either side. This way if it seems like a match will go in too long moving the lines up will decrease the chance of that. By moving the lines up after two members on either team are left gives the team with more members an unfair advantage. As far as the balls go I think we could use some smaller balls along with the larger 10 inch balls. I played with larger balls and smaller balls when I was a kid. The smaller balls were called (stingers) since they were smaller they could be thrown harder abd stung like hell. You could also if you were good, put a spin on it which made it harder to catch. If anyone has smaller size dodgeballs please bring them to our next game. Now remember our next game will probably take place the first week in August we just have to confirm when the gym will be available to rent. If you have any comment about my ideas or have your own ideas please email me at themoviecritic79@yahoo.com or post here on the boards and we can discuss them. These are just a few of the ideas I have that we could use. However, I don't want to do too much at once so maybe in the future we can add more rules. I hope I hear back from you and remember when the next game is announced print out some fliers and try to post them around town and hand them out to your friends. Hopefully this will help and the next time we will have a greater turn out. I did this for our last game. I found that if you asked a store if they would let you post a flier for the game they were more than willing to help you out.

I had fun last night as well.

Next time we should put teams together and have a tournament or something. Playing 15 on 15 is fun but I think it would be much more fun if we cut down on the playing size and have teams play against other teams.

Initially, the person that told me that nobody needed a card but me (as the renter of the court) is probably hired help or a volunteer. After I received the contract in the mail with the differing information I contacted the Parks Department and they got back with me with the correct information. It's partly my fault for not being more thorough. Anyway, the people I have talked with so far are still coming. So the game is still on. Bring a friend, too! See you Wednesday

UPDATE: You will need to purchase a Participation Card from the City of Mesquite to play in this game (on the 14th). Participation Cards are $5 for Mesquite residents and $10 for non-Mesquite residents. Under 18 may need a parent/guardian signature. These cards are valid for one year and are necessary to the City of Mesquite for legal/insurance reasons. You can purchase the card at the Dunford Community Center. I apologize for the late word on this fee. Originally, I had been told that I (the renter of the gym) needed a card only, but a guy from the Parks Department called me today and said everyone must have a card. I am a little perturbed at this late word, especially because I am hoping this doesn't affect anyone's decision/ability to show up. Nevertheless, the card is a good deal. If we play 12 times during the next year, that's only 50 cents a game night for Mesquite residents, plus you have access to Dunford for all other activities during the year as well. Also, this is a nice, enclosed air conditioned gym. Some of these leagues that are starting up in the Dallas area (at clubs) will be charging a lot more for registration to play outdoors on parking lots enclosed by temporary chain linked fences. Again, I apologize for this late word (I won't be asking for $1-$2 donations to cover the rental). Hope to see everyone there. Bring as many friends (targets) as you like. Also, we do not need any more balls. I have purchased some, but the Dunford center has about 10 dodgeballs already! More info at http://www.dallasdodgeball.com

Tom was nice enough to pay with his own money to rent the gym and all you can say is "really not sure that setting this up at exactly the same time as Duke's Wednesday night tourney is a sharp idea. :/. Forty Teams! Did everyone get to play?
MedievalTeacher  21
07-08-2004 09:31 AM ET (US)
Just wanted to drop in and say I went to Duke's last night.

There were - count them - FORTY teams signed up. Do the math on the bodycount. ;) Some people were on multiple teams, but it was still well in excess of 150 players. The question then is NOT "are there enough interested players in Dallas." The question is - do we have what it takes to interest them?

I think if Dallas Dodgeball is serious about getting things going, it would be very prudent to print up 200 or so fliers, and drop by Duke's for a few weeks trying to spread the word. We might even talk to Duke's about using their court on other nights. Business was booming for them to be sure.

The potential is definitely out there for a d-ball league in Dallas; all that is required is for someone to lead the way.

Ideas?

Well in Mesquite there are some out door hockey rinks that have been created that could be used.
There is one by a elementary school that would be perfect. They took out the hockey goals and the lights are button pushed till 10 or 11 PM.

I don't know if the City of Mesquite would like you using the place for dodgeball but it would be perfect for a small rec league when not raining.

Progress report: People are already contacting me about the Dodgeball games. Just to let everyone know, there are already 6 man team dodgeball games in Addison at Duke's Restaurant every Wednesday night (I believe). However, I would still like to organize separate Dodgeball games. Does anyone have any ideas on where to play? We need a gymnasium (for free), preferably with multiple courts.

As a youth I loved playing Dodgeball. I first played at Stemmons Elementary School in Dallas, then at Tyler Street Christian Academy (also in Dallas). As an adult, I was fortunate to play on my Marine Corps unit's "Warball" team, the military version of Dodgeball. Now, the new Dodgeball movie starring Ben Stiller has me yearning to play Dodgeball again. After watching the movie I thought I could just come home and search "Dallas Dodgeball" at Google and find a league. No such luck. So, I have posted this Web page in the hopes that I can find other people interested in playing Dodgeball in the Dallas area for recreational purposes. If you are in the Dallas Fort Worth area and have a similar interest please contact me. My thoughts are that if enough people are interested (ages 16 and up) that we could get together about once a month at a Dallas location to play Dodgeball. Contact me - Tom Wakefield - at postalmag@comcast.net. Please use "Dallas Dodgeball" for the e-mail subject heading. Go to http://www.dallasdodgeball.com for more information.
