Those of you who have been to the Maymorn competitive trail ride recently - have a look at the WTRC website (it's on our calender) - their photographer took some great shots of just about everyone, including the one's who had to walk a bit...Yu can download or copy what you want! Karina

Hi my name is Tracey Blair I have just enrolled as a new member - I live on Haywoods Hill and have a couple of horse's up here and a few grazers as well. I am intersted in getting out and about with my ponies a bit this year - if the wind ever stops. I enjoy dressage mainly but also hack out as we back on to St Pat's Forest and have access to that - great riding. I see that you are planing on a dressage/jumpiing day soon and wondered when details might be available, - I am more than happy to help out by the way. I understand how these days can be made easier by many hands. I am looking forward to meeting you all and hopefully starting some fun outings.

I'd like to say thanks to Karina for being there every day (that's all 6 of them). Think ahead to next year - who wants to do it then? You did a great job Karina. We are all looking forward to seeing Finn at Horse Club soon. I've just been looking at the Blog on our links - it's really funny - have a look. There's this very funny video on youtube with a stallion doing really weird stuff with a big round bale of hay. Take a look.

Hi everyone - I hope you have all recovered from all that dressaging and are now ready for the soon to start new season! My Finn is already starting to shed, he's veeery woolly since he went uncovered all winter - was I glad I didn't ride in the series. Let the committee know what you think was great/not so good/ could be improved (the weather not included!) or any other suggestions you might have - like you would like to help run it! I thought that the shed was the best thing that could have happened - thank you Rachel! And we will most definitely not accept that many resistrations next time!!! We are also grateful for the judges who came and gave encouraging comments to most, sitting in a coldish car for hours - and their writers. And the yummy baking provided, much better than the polystyrene stuff from the supermarket! Write in with your dressage (dis)adventures, we all love to hear about them! The days in our lives...Also want from the club training/event wise, after all this is your club!

Just had a brilliant idea. - I've just submitted a query with tvnz asking when are we going to get coverage of the WEG. Why don't you all do the same - maybe they'll listen. I went to tvnz's website and found the contact me and filled in a feedback form.

I would like the know the answer to Jill's question re the WEG - I think they are all over now, but did not see a single bit on TV. Have been looking in my skywatch and can't see anything there either. I know we can't have done any good at any of the events, but boy wouldn't it be great to see some of it! We had an eventing team, an individual show jumper, a vaulter and a team in the endurance and heard nothing on the news except for where the eventing team was placed after the dressage and cross country and then nothing more. We should petition TV one two and three and sky and tell them this is not good enough. Has anyone seen any sign of any delayed coverage even?

Hi Renee, the club grounds are open for dressage practice from 9.30 am onwards. The arena will be set up then, and anyone can come and use it - if someone is in there you will have to wait, but usually it's empty. There will be lessons that day too, but they will not be in the arena, so there should be plenty of room for you.

Hello there members of Te Marua Horse Club. I am here having a nosey at your awesome website, was directed here by Lisa M. I must say that your website if fantastic and puts my newsletters to shame. I am the president/secretary of the very newly started Central Hawkes Bay Adult Riding Club(CHBARC), we are slowly and surely getting on our feet, we only started in May 07 and is a real learning curve for myself as I have ever only been on club committees and been TOLD what to do not the other way round, well you know what I mean. Once again, well done on a fantastic looking club with incredible facilities for you to all use, well done it is a credit to you. Well you know where we are if you ever want to have a overnight(or two)farm stay close to the beach. Look forward to meeting you at ARC events. Katherine

Talk to our Karina, Jill- she's our local expert on barefoot. Jean and Glen also go barefoot sucessfully. My horse is too much of a wuss and I ride on roads and stones a lot. Just lost a shoe today and the horse can't even be ridden as she is sore. I just hope that she will be ok once shoe is back on and that she hasn't pricked her foot with a nail. Hope to see lots of people down helping set up the arena tomorrow. 2nd day of dressage is next week. I might have to miss - depends if I can get a farrier before then.

Hope you all enjoyed the dressage. Or is it recovering? What about the flooding? After a week of mud wrestling, jill and horses have escaped next door to some real grass! Great relief. New horse shaping up well so far. Need more floating practice tho'. Would like to hear some views on going barefoot. Cheers

Good on Pam - she fixed my horse. Never had a problem again after she showed me how to do it. And fixed 2 others that I know of and now yours Jill. She'll have to charge soon. Could be a good business. It's just so much easier knowing you can take your horse out and not have to worry about how long it's going to take to get it on the float.

hey this discussion page is really hotting up now. Great stuff. I had the oldies (retired horses) uncovered all last winter and they were fine, but have weakened this year - it seems much colder. Now they have covers on so they will be stuck with them until it warms up. Yes the mud does keep them warm, but it's hard to get it off to ride. That's why I only leave the unridden horses uncovered. The horses are much tougher than we think they are - it's us who're soft. See everyone on Sunday dressaging away.

I'm glad to see this space used now! Rachel you must have very good nerves + confidence to go with that amount of preparation! I've seen people stuff up even when they prepared + had a reader, after all we are only humans, not computers. Some of us find it easier to cope with pressure. Finn is especially muddy because he is 'tuff' and lives it rough, meaning - no cover! He rolls the mud on an inch thick and that keeps him warm (it seems) and of course the reserves he has stored up in his gut and other body parts. And Coralie - shortest day means the start of winter! The days get longer but sea temperatures are still dropping meaning: colder air around NZ, no real spring before September! So keep hoping - it will get better before christmas - only 5 month to go! I will watch you all on dressage day - hopefully a sunshiny one!

Glad to hear there are other suffer's (how do you spell that) out there. Tammy's pulled up lame. She's not bad, just being silly in the paddock, and strained something, so is now on sick-leave for a few days. May turn up with new horse though just for the experience. yes Jill - me too. My horses are standing in mud - didn't have mud like this last year. They will be moved to a new paddock in the weekend and that will be mud too in a couple of days. It's horrible, but at least the shortest day is now past and we can look forward to summer. yay. Make sure you've got your name down with Rachel for one of the other jumping days this winter. Hope to see some of you on Sunday between 10am and 2pm for dressage practice. We will set up the arena at 10am - weather report is for long fine intervals on Sunday

Is anyone ever looking in here? Did you enjoy the camp, jumping instructions with Gary? What was so good about it? For me it was not coming off despite Finn's bucking efforts while everyone watched - and we hadn't even attempted a single jump! When I saw another little grey buck later on I didn't feel so bad after all. It is always good to get some feedback, share info. Winter dressage series is coming up soon - how do you prepare?

Thanks very much Jean, do you have names/locations of the agistment centres you had in mind? I should be back for a visit in July and am hoping to do some checking out... From my internet searches so far I see that there are a couple of places in Mangaroa valley, I also remember there being a place on Moonshine road (but it is a wicked drive to get there)...Any pointers would be appreciated..cheers

Yes there are places like this in the Upper Hutt area. I know of at least three places that have arenas (one covered)and good facilities, and there are club members with arenas that you might be able to use (not to mention the club grounds which are available to all members). Where I live at the north end of Mangaroa valley there is access to miles of trail riding in the forestry - the club has a key available to members, or you can get your own key from the Regional Council.
If you are thinking about a "lifestyle block" there are quite a few available, with house or to build on, with enough land for horse/s. Some of these are close enough to the Masterton - Wellington rail to walk to the station to commute to Wellington (45 mins).

Hi all, Firstly- great website- I am currently overseas but am looking to return to Upper Hutt at the year end, was really pleased to see that there is obviously a really active club in the area..
For today though, has anyone got some advice about potential agistment options? Whilst we are looking at our potential homes, I'd really like to have an idea of where I might want to keep the horse - time spent commuting is horse-time wasted...
At the moment the place we are at has lots of trail riding, an all weather arena, storage rooms and a loo.. Something like that and with good access from Upper Hutt would be ideal - does such a place exist??

If anyone is interested in learning natural horseman skills like Parelli, I had an instructor name Antoinette King come and give me some great ground and riding work with my horse. I just started to do the riding side when my horse and I got broke. Antoinette lives in Wellington and is happy to travel to you. You can either do training one on one or with another person. The cost is about $50.00 per hour.
I got hold of Antoinette to help me with float loading troubles. These all originate from my horse not respecting me on the ground. Once we accomplished the skills on the ground we progressed to float loading. I am pleased to say all is going well in that area.
I did about 8 lessons with ground work, like anything in horses it all depends on how deep you want to go. This area of training can get quiet advanced and I only scratched the surface. I would recommend Antoinette to anyone wishing to learn more in this field of horsemanship.
Antoinette details are: 04 476 4762 or 027 245 7878

I reckon that a good balance of all - competitions, rallies, instruciton, treks will encourage a better cross section of members to participate.
Of course then you just need organisers... LOL

Russel Higgins and Chip Johnson are Parelli Instructors who have been in the Wtn area on occasion - the demand in the area is not enough for either of them to travel that far, they mostly come to Feilding as far as I know, have been at Thompson's too. If there is the demand and some willing organiser they will come. Auditioning at a clinic is also a good way to find out more if you know very little - at the clinics I have been to the onlookers were kept involved and thinking! - Their contacts are under www.parelli.com.au. If people are keen on taking their horses out for experience I think ribbons are not absolutely necessary. Certificates would be just as good with the placing. What do others think? Ribbons are still good for overall winners and special events.

Re club competitions, how formal do you want them? Ribbons and judge's fees can make them a bit expensive to run - probably at least $5 per class per entry. Does this sound like too much, or do you think that's reasonable? It would be possible to economise by having certificates or something like that instead of ribbons. What do you think?

This could be a good opportunity to find out what members want from the club - let us know what sort of events, rallies etc you enjoy most. If you would like treks to be included we have a key to the GWRC forestry area at Maymorn, and other members may know good places to go too.
Do you prefer competitions, or instruction, or rallies? Please let us know!

I'm still trying to work out how to set up new topics... for now it will be easiest just to use this one. The "Post new message" button seems to take a long time to go through so you have to be patient! It does go through eventually, though you have to sign on with your name (or alias) and email address before you can post a message. At the moment, you will have to use your "Back" button to get back to the website, I will try and get a direct link back set up too. For the meantime this may work: http://www.tmhcnz.com

This is your discussion area! Post messages on whatever you like (preferably horsey), start new topics, advertise, etc.etc.
