Wow, record time posting pictures this morning. Got up at 8:30 - all done by 11. That's a record. My almost 6-year-old Mac G5 was zipping along this morning.
Check out pics from a crazy Saturday night.

Elaine, I sent an e-mail to Katelyn's address. I said that if she can't make it to Tricks on the 4th, we can mail her a t-shirt, and then pay us $10 any time later. You can always contact rick@tricksband.com for all your Tricks questions.

Elaine,
Your best bet is to come to the 4th of July celebration in Dorr (see calendar). Only because we don't have a mail order system in place. Right now, you pretty much have to come to a gig to get a t-shirt, but, it's worth it!!!

My daughter Katelyn wants to get one of your t-shirts and needs to know who to contact to get one. You can contact me at 681-0402. Or contact Katelyn by email at katelynbregg@yahoo.com. Thank you!

Today, Saturday, 4PM until Tricks starts at 9, the Sidetrack bar is having a Catfish Fry. $10 per plate, $5 for kids (10 and under). It's really really good, and you can always count on generous portions at the Sidetrack.
Tricks last big blow-out night tonight - we've had awesome fun nights last weekend and last night. But we're saving the best for last.

This Saturday, April 18,
Roger has offered his driving services and his motor-home
to drive a bunch of you from the Dorr / Wayland area to the Sidetrack.

He says he can pick you up at your house between 7:30 and 8PM;
And he'll have you back home around 1:30.

Roger has room for about 10 or 12 people.
Tips for the driver are fine, but not necessary;
Tricks is helping Roger with gas money.

Krystal's new squiggly Tricks logo, replace the orange with pink for girl shirts
Rick  227
03-27-2009 11:43 AM ET (US)
The new T-shirts are here! The new t-shirts are here!
Thanks to Roger for helping us finance the considerable t-shirt cost.

We have a big batch of girls and guys t-shirts in various sizes, all ready to go.
We'll bring the boxes of shirts to the Wayland Hotel this Friday and Saturday.

The guys t-shirts are maroon with orange and white logo.
The girls t-shirts are brown with pink and white loge.

The Tricks Logo is enhanced with Krystal's new "squiggly" graphic with little peace sign, like on the front of Steve's new Gretsch kick drum.

10 bucks to cover our cost.
We're basically a non-profit band, after all.

What a great, great night Saturday night. Friday was very busy until mid-third set and then kind of dropped off to a small but attentive crowd.
Saturday was another story entirely. A great gang of Tricks faithful and lot's of first-timers came out to light a fire us up and put out some "Premium Rock" as Rick puts it.

Thanks to all who came out to be part of a fantastic night. We always appreciate your patronage but especially when everyones in the mood to Rock Out!

Miss ya Rich.
I know, I know,... I got lots of pictures and videos to add to the archives.
I want to find some good video of us when we were doing some strange cool songs like "Radar Gun" or "Why Part II". How about "Bandittos" or "Heads In Mississippi"?
I have a box full of video tapes from Stan's and Daisy Mae's and who knows where else...
It's just a matter of searching through hours of tape to find the best stuff.
Maybe I can do some of that this week while Krys is gone.
Or maybe in the spring...

Hey all,

It's Sunday night and I'm counting my blessings. We had a great rehearsal today with all the new material. We still have a ways to go but we're tackling it one tune at a time and loving it.

Today we persevered (that's persevered - not perverted) a Sunday fatigue syndrome and still got a lot of work done at Roger's place (Thanks for the space Rog').

Rick and Krys, warriors that they are, couldn't take a weekend off like the rest of us. They went out to Bittersweet Ski Resort on Saturday night, woke up the neighbors and roughed up the establishment a bit (see latest photos). They were still troopers on Sunday though.

The selections we've chosen couldn't be more diverse. From Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift to Theory of a Dead Man and Little Caesar we're pumpin' em' out.

We're also doing a lot of the Classic Rock you know and love but not what you may expect. Steve's got some cajones' goin' on with some new Robin Trower and John Cougar. (How do Drummers sing like that when they're sitting down?)

We're all pushing the breathalyser factor on some challenging power vocals with songs like "Ain't Goin' Down" "Bad Girlfriend" and "Photograph".

Mr. Lopez is doing his best to sort it all out and keep all of us balanced and happy.

It's gonna be fun folks. We look forward to seeing you in March!

Peace & Out,
Dave T.

Had a blast Saturday night at the Legion. Kudos to Mark for planning, Steve for keeping a secret right till the last second and Paula for turning the big 40!!! Also to all of those friends of Paula for showing up in some very "inclement" weather.

Now it's time to get down to business and learn some new tunes for everyone's enjoyment. It's going to be a very fast-paced schedule leading up to the 09' season starting with The Hotel. It'll be very interesting to see what kind of dynamic we get mixing the new material with the old.

Hope to see ya'll soon,

Sorry, lots of pictures are dark because of the candle-lit hall.
But, there are some real good shots here and there.

Please share this link with everyone who was involved with the wedding.

"rowdy enthusiasm"
Yeah, yeah, so the crowd was great. We couldn't do it without y'all.
Love ya, man, and all that. But, . . .

Bassbeast is humble to a fault, so he won't tell you that the band was kicking some serious butt last night. The crowd makes the show, but the band doesn't always rise to the occasion like they did last night.

Bassbeast and Steve were both a bit under the weather, but that rhythm section was about as tight as it gets. This always happens in the fall - the band gets those songs under their belt, and we start taking chances, getting cocky with our playing, and having fun. The songs become "more than the sum of their parts".

So, I just wanted to remind everyone who wasn't there that they missed a good one.

Next weekend we have off, but we'll be ready to rise to the occasion when we get some enthused crowds at Wayland.
Cheers!

What a great time at the legion last night. It was great to see Dorr gather to support the Harvest Benefit and their own favorite sons "Tricks". Lot's of dancing, drinking and such. I observed that even those who didn't want to brave the packed floor stuck around till late in the evening to watch and listen with rowdy enthusiasm (I liked the beer-can pyramids the best).

Also, a very respectful shout out to the Vet's themselves. We love ya'!!

Thanks to all for coming out as this was my first "Harvest Benefit" of the ten or so that Tricks has been doing over the beers.

Hope to see ya'll at the Hotel during one or all of the three weekends we're there. Remember, we are also playing the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as well (biggest bar night of the year). It should be a wild couple of weeks at Mary Kay's Hotel.

Thanks again,
Dave T.

Let me guess, without seeing these pics before:

The first is people standing in line at Park West for the Wednesday King Crimson show.
The second is people standing in line at Park West for the Thursday King Crimson show.
They were taken by the guy who does the blog at dgm.com, and they must be posted there.
Am I right?

I forgot about him going around taking pictures and chatting with people while we were in line.
I never checked for the pictures; I assumed he would have better-looking people than us to put online.

I did buy the board-recording from Thursday night's show at Park West, and I was just cranking it in my car on my way home from work, just now.

Hey Tim! (and All!)

We missed ya last night. I didn't press anyone to show up, because I knew that lots of people are camping and doing "end of summer" activities with family and friends. I knew I had enough musicians to keep things rockin' steady until late. And as far as "onlookers", there were just enough to make a good crowd, but we couldn't handle too many more people in our tiny yard. The crowd was mostly friends who tagged along with the musicians, and a bunch of my neighbors who wandered over. It was a great party!

I didn't get everything set up until almost 5 in the afternoon. After I got sound going at 5, we had a long set from my son's band, a short set from Bill Roelof & friends, and then a long set from Opus.

I didn't get to play until about 9; I was roadie up until then (from 10 in the morning).

We did a long set with the current Tricks and diddled around for another good hour with acoustic stuff - Steve was too tired from drumming about 5 hours with 3 bands.

Finished up around 1. No police or trouble. Good-sized crowd of neighbors, friends, and family. Lots of good food.

I was looking at my song list on Friday night, and was wishing you would make it out. But I knew it was a long drive, and the best part of the party is the late hours. We had 3 band guys stay overnight because they were too beered-out to drive. There'll be other opportunities, I'm sure. I'm still hoping to see Dew South at the M-89 one of these weekends when we're free.

I'll have pictures up by tonight some time, after a leisurely wrap-up / pack-up.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Whew! I finally got the pics up from our last couple non-Tricks gigs. Tricks Lite without Steve. It's just not the same.
I hear Steve is getting swamped with business at the new store - hope he lives through it.

Check out my pics from Krystal's Class Reunion where we played - they were only supposed to have the place until 10pm, but the guy who came to lock up joined in the fun, and we played almost until midnight. See my website...

I also have fun pics from the annual party in Irons - a first for Dave and Debbie.
Maybe next year we'll have Steve along for the little party in the woods.

Holy Cow!!! What a great time at the 4th celebration. I was very proud and honored to be knee deep in this Dorr tradition. Dorr does it right!!! Even though we had a couple of technical difficulties (us Bass players can't seem to get anything right) all in all things pretty much went off without a hitch.

We had a lot of folks liking the mainstream classic rock and a lot of folks that also enjoyed the "off-cuts". There were a bunch of people swayin' and boppin' to the likes of "Black Horse Cherry Tree", "Seasons of Wither", and Arrested For Drivin' While Blind".

I really hope that this will translate into even more avid Tricks followers. Krys, Steve and Rick were doing a great job of pumping the website which pretty much sells itself once you log on. I've been to a lot of band websites and most of them suck (no, I'm not sucking up to the webmaster, I already know I have the job for the forseeable future).

Thanks to everyone that showed up for the duration. There are a lot of people that show up in the photo section that were there for "Common Good" and "Tricks" that never left.

Here's to a wonderful 4th and a kicka$$ fireworks display!!!

Sincerely,
Dave T.

I just gotta tell ya, I've been bustin' my hump for this band for the last couple days.
Now, you better go look at my work.

I got 6 albums of pictures from 5 cameras that were clicking away at the Dorr 4th.
I wrote out the narrative on the Tricks News/Blog page, though I still didn't get names from Marsha Halloran so i could add the names of the contest winners, as well as names of the volunteers and workers that need to have a "Thank You" from Tricks on our page.

Coolest of all, I have video added, and I'll add more in the next few days.

For now, I have "Ride On" from the end of the show when we were watching the sky, so we could stop when the fireworks started. Awesome, fired-up crowd at that point of the show.

Hopefully I can put a song from The Common Good on our YouTube page as well, but the camera mic was a little too close, and much of the sound is ratting out in the bass department. "Ride On" has good sound because the song doesn't have a big loud bass.

Stay tuned . . .

Megan, I got that story all fixed up on the website. I thought you said "Naval Academy", until the next morning when Krystal was talking about what a fun night we had, and she mentioned that you said you wanted to be a fighter pilot. That made me think Air Force. Sorry, I know how touchy the rivalries can be in the armed forces.
Good Luck with all that. Stop by again when you have some leave.
I'm sure we'll be at the Wayland Hotel on a regular basis; Mary Kay, the owner, can't seem to get enough of Tricks.

We don't have "Expresso Love" in our current repertoire, since we've just acquired a new bassist who only had time to learn about 70 of our songs during our 2 month winter break. We're eventually going to get Dave to learn the other 268 songs as soon as he gets off his dead ass and gives up his job, his family, meals, and sleeping.
No really, . . . just kidding. Dave! Dave? I was joking, man. Dave? We love ya, man.
Seriously, We haven't done "Expresso Love" since about 2 bass players ago. We might be able to do an acoustic "Rick & Steve" version this Friday, if we have enough drinks for inspiration.
If you have any reception pictures from '89, that would be interesting and fun. I like those pictures from back when I had more hair and less flab.
See ya there! Come early for dinner; The food is good at the Hotel; kitchen closes at 9.

Rick,

Thanks for pointing out my nice Lavender Bass I had to play at the party. You're right. I wasn't a happy camper with having to play the "gay/gray" bass.

It's all good though. The party was fun despite my discontent with the Lavender wood.

What a great bunch. Cal and Leanne are really fine folks and the supporting cast was well. . . supportive. I hope we see more of all of them at future Tricks gigs. I would imagine that the 4th of July fireworks deal will be one opportunity for sure.

All in all it was a great way to spend a Memorial Day Weekend!

Thanks to all,

Just a heads-up to anyone coming out to the SideTrack this weekend or next weekend:
The band hours have changed at the SideTrack -

We now are starting at 9PM and playing until 1AM at Sue's SideTrack.
(Bar time is 10 or 15 minutes fast, so we actually start around 8:45.)

After these 2 weekends at the SideTrack we have 4 weeks off, because Steve needs to devote his attention to the new store construction and plans for the big move. So we hope everyone can come out to Sue's SideTrack and contribute to the Tricks party atmosphere. (see map & info at tricksband.com)

Come early for dinner - the kitchen closes at 9PM.
See ya, thanks, love ya!

Thanks to all the incredible folks who came out to see Tricks in my first three weekends with the band the The Hotel in Wayland. It was really a great time all the way around from St. Paddy's weekend through this past Saturday.

What a blast!!! So many friends and fans of both Tricks and the old Meanstreak crowd I'd have a hard time naming everyone but if you were there - you know it was packed.

We are looking forward to Sue's Sidetrack in Fennville. If you've never been there it's a fantastic venue. They have an outdoor patio area in addition to the Bar where you can take your favorite adult beverage out and enjoy what will hopefully (finally) be good weather. There are photos and directions in the "Venues" area of the Tricks Website.

Hope to see as many of you there as can make it!!!

Thanks again,
BASSBEAST

I'll let Rick and Krys address those questions as this will also be my first "picnic". I'm looking forward to seening all our long-haired, tatooed and pierced bodies sitting on a Red and White checkered picnic blanket drinking mint tea and such - HA! Right.

should be fun,

Hey everyone, I got the pics up - that was a lot of pictures to sort through. Don't worry, I took out all the ones that made you look fatter and uglier than nature intended.

Julie, I was talking to Krys about your birthday in August, and she said you need to come to our jam party with the Foolish Plezyer and Meanstreak band guys - they can play some songs for us. It's a jam party for all of our musical friends, and friends of friends.

For the Rick & Krys Patio Party, we keep the invitation list pretty short, because it's mainly a party for musicians, not a show for gawkers. It's Insiders only (like the people on this forum) The idea is musicians partying and jamming with musicians, and a few closest friends. We'll keep you updated.

I just check your calendar to see if you will be playing in August (23) at the Wayland Hotel Bar.
And you are not. You are planing a tentative Rick and Krystal Jam Party. We have been going there for the past 3 years and I was hoping that you would be there this year too. (Too continue the tradition, I was aiming for). I finally find a good band and place to celebrate my B-day. Now what I'm I going to do. I thought I remember checking it out when I found out Dave was going to be your bass player and you wer going to be there, Guess I was dreaming. (Or seeing things) Crap, Crap, Crap...
Well I'm glad I check it out, so now I will have time to try and find something else. Crap.........

A huge THANK YOU from Steve & Tammy to Roger for allowing Tricks to rehearse at his home the last few winters. The location was previously at our house, which is probably where we'll end up next winter - if we can clear the band room out after 3 years! I really liked the great "drum room" sound I got at Rog's.

I have Ann's Korg Poly 61 keyboard along with my Poly 800. Another picture from that night shows Dale Boysen with Tom Hudson on bass. That means it has to be 1989 or 1990, because it's after Science Project (with Ann) disbanded, and I rejoined Tricks. It also is before we parted with bassist Tom Hudson because Ann was asking to join Tricks, but only if we also hired bassist Tom Huitt. - Another bass player mess in the making.

This was a turning point in Tricks history, because I added keyboards and acoustic guitar. We also dropped lots of the more obscure and difficult tunes in favor of more popular rock. We wanted to play more venues. We were swimming against the tide; Late 80's. Disco was still alive, along with New Wave and Punk. The advent of DeeJay bars, "Just Say No", and MADD.

No one had invented the name "Classic Rock" yet, so we were just an Oldies band to most young people who were frequenting the bar scene. That's why we hired Ann when her Nobody's Home band broke up.

After consulting the Tricks History pages, I see that the picture is from Oct 28, 1989 - just 3 weeks after I started working at Trendway - that's why my hair is so short under my Miss Piggy wig (the dreaded job hunting).

I second the motion of thanks to everyone involved and attending the bash. I know it broke up a little early because of the weather but kudos to everyone who dared to brave the treacherous road conditions. I had a great time playing "without a net" in the first gig and it's fitting that this impromtu jam would be for my lovely Debbie's party.

Looking forward to March. ROCK ON !!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEBBIE!
We were honored to be a part of Debbie Trierweiler's 50th birthday celebration last night at the Middleville Villa. (Debbie is wife of Dave BassBeast, and she's very active with Dave's band activities - likes to come to gigs to party & dance, and she's been to most of our rehearsals so far).
Krys, Rick, & Dave actually did 9 of our new songs unplugged, with Steve and Lopez watching from the sidelines. We did an okay job, but I'm glad we have 4 weeks to keep polishing our new tunes. We can use it!
A nasty night for driving, but there were several dozen friends and family gathered at the MidVIlla for Debbie's special surprise party. It feels good to be welcomed into Dave & Deb's family as we welcome them into ours.

Proud and happy to be here. We haven't learned "Let There Be Rock" yet but it's on the "to-do" list. I wanna know which pictures your talking about. At practice I'm mostly an unshaven, sweat-pants wearin', Grandpa lookin' mess.

So, if the guy in the photos Krys has shown you look like that - I'm gonna owe her one!!!

Just got home and I have to get to work on tunes. Rick seems like a nice guy but he beats me on a regular basis (HA!)

Hey Deb G.! -
Yeah, we're all excited to introduce everyone to Dave the new guy.
We're working on bringing in some new, heavier sounds, while keeping all the good old sounds as well. We all are revamping our equipment, and we're adding quite a few songs to our repertoire. We've got old songs from Tricks, old songs from Dave's old bands, and some songs that are new to all of us.
It's a lotta work. A bit scary. But it's a labor of love, and we are shooting for excellence.
One big thing that made Dave our obvious choice is that he matches our attitude and drive. Like the rest of Tricks, Dave is a hard worker and takes pride in his musical work. He gives 110% !

For the Grand Haven Eagles or anyone else who wants to contact the Tricks band about booking information (or anything else)-

E-mail: Info@tricksband.com
Phone Rick: 269-673-5503

I'm pretty good at returning messages in a timely fashion, but this forum is for group banter - there's no way to reply to individual messages. For everyone's privacy, this forum doesn't give me any e-mail addresses.

Hint: Tricks is usually booked a year in advance, so it's best to plan ahead.
Tricks is booked solid for 2007, and we are mostly full for 2008 as well.
If you wonder why some weekends in the Tricks schedule are listed as "off"; we purposefully take occasional weekends off for family, business, and plain old "R & R".

Thanks, Lois. I'm doing a bunch of work on the Tricks website right now. I see I got my upcoming dates all messed up. I'll fix them now. No rest for the weary.
Be sure to check my new YouTube videos from July 4th in Dorr, and from the camping party up north in Irons.
That Irons video cracks me up. I just have to laugh. I got pretty toasted from shots of Bacardi that were getting passed around. I was still pretty sober for the video. I'm glad my camera battery ran out by the time I was really wasted.
Towards the end, we even did Ted Nugent "Just What The Doctor Ordered" with acoustic guitar and no drums. Ted has property very close to where our party was, so we yelled out, "this one is dedicated to our neighbor, Ted".

Hey Nyan,
Was that the wedding at the Griswald? We don't do very many weddings, maybe one or two per year, if that . . .
If you want to catch Tricks in rock & roll action, you can sign up for our newsletter. I send out Tricks News about once every 5 weeks or so. You can find the sign-up form at our home page.
http://www.tricksband.com/
You can always go to our calendar online, and we have our year's schedule posted. Find the link for our calendar at the Tricks home page.
In late August and Early September, we have weekends at the Wayland Hotel and the SideTrack (in Pearl). Our 2 favorite bars. They both have great food and a big dance floor and friendly wait-staff. Hope to see you there!
It's always cool when we run into Tricks friends from way back.
Thanks for writing!

Hi John. It would be cool if any Schnaubelts managed to show up after a long day of sun and sea at Uncle Tom's. I double-dog dare ya!
As far as sit-ins, sorry, we don't do that unless we get some rehearsal time. It's the Tricks law! Especially at this outdoor gig - we're going to be on unfamiliar turf.
Steve says "we're not 'bold and open', we're timid and set in our ways".
What a funny guy.
Hope to see some of you and yours there on the 4th.
Cool!

Also, if you're bold and open to the idea, I know most of the songs in your set list (having played in many a classic rock bands in my 30 years as a keyboard player)... I'd love to lug one of my keyboards on the trip and "sit in" on any songs that might be fun jamming along with the addition of a keyboardist. :p

Will Tricks be playing anywhere in the Door/Grand Haven area July 3-4-5? Noreen and I will be coming down from Alpena area (where her family is) and I'd love to hear you guys play again. Who does your bookings? A Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday gig on the holiday should be in the works if not already. I'll check the Tricks web calendar but I doubt it goes as far out as July in May so I thought maybe - just maybe - if I post this message, management might try to get a July 4th gig in the works. I'll bring all my brothers, their wives, and cousins with meh! :D

Bryan, good to hear from you. We had many good times at the Rusty Nail back in '76 & '77.
Tricks still has 3 of the original members from those years. Me on guitar and vocals, my brother Steve on drums and vocals, and our soundman Dave. Yeah, we're fatter and balder, but who cares? I won't stop rockin' until they pry my guitar from my cold dead fingers. We're real popular with the 20-something crowd who love partying and dancing to those "classics" that we know so well.
We still do mostly 70's type rock songs. We especially like doing good dance songs that get all the girls dancing, but we try to avoid filling our set list with the songs that every other bar band does.
And, we don't keep the same song list. Every year we take a winter break and learn 15 to 20 "new" classics. There are plenty of cool songs to pick from. Right now, we're working on 18 "new" songs and we're finished with our winter break on St. Patty's Day weekend. I can't wait, I got the itch real bad. Check out our current song list at
http://homepage.mac.com/rdoogie/TricksBand/SongLists.html

As far as the PAS 600; that amp is long gone. Great amp. We had 2 PAS 800 amps in another band I was in during the late 80's - one surviving PAS 800 is in my basement set-up (we use Crown amps now). I don't know who made those things, but we got our PAS from ProCo Sound in Kalamazoo. We used to get lots of sound gear and advice from Charlie Wicks at ProCo. Back then, ProCo was making and selling pro sound gear of all kinds - everything for the road and studio. Nowadays, ProCo specializes in music cables, switch boxes, and other connectors for wiring sound systems.

If you get a chance, come up and see us some time.

Haven't been to the Nail in 25 years. How time passes. Use to ride up from Elkhart quite a bit in the "old" days. Stumbled upon your site. You probably dont have your PAS 600 anymore but do you guys remember who made that thing. Just curious cause that thing use to rock. Keep Rockin on guys! Glad to here some (at least one) of the older area rock bands are still around. None of the ones around South Bend are left playing that I know of.

Thanks to everyone for a super Fun-Tastic New Year's Eve party. Diane VerHey from Singles By Design wrote today to say that many in her group (about 35 people) commented about what a great time they had last night, and that Tricks was their new favorite band. I hope we can get her group, or some of them, to come out to Wayland Hotel, because it's such a nice place, although Diane says it's a little out of their range.
Lynette, the lady in charge last night, tried to book us for next year's party already when we were tearing down this afternoon. We said that Rick and Krys are planning a Florida trip for next New Year's Eve. So Lynette told us to write them in for New Year's 2009.
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!
Some guy came up last night and said to me, "during Sultans of Swing, you should say 'check out guitar Rick, he knows all the Tricks'." I said "Wow, what a great idea". Then he said "don't tell me you never thought of that one". Sorry, I can't think of everything, . . . but I'll try anything at least once.
Best wishes and good luck to everyone in 2007.

Everybody, please. Let's get busy.
I've just re-activated my "pro" options at this forum, so anybody can now post pictures once again. If anyone has pictures to post, hopefully of interest to the Tricks "inner circle", let's be posting those pictures. Make it worth my $$'s to activate the picture posting capability.
Also, we have 24 members in this Tricks forum, and it would be a lot more fun if we could talk some more friends and family into signing on. Plenty of things to talk about, with Tricks in full swing for 2006.
This weekend, we played at Jane and Craig's daughter Chelsea's wedding. It was a wedding - What more can I say? Everyone danced all night, it was really fun, but lots of work doing the one nighter thing. Krys and I also sang at the church, and that went very well. I'll have pictures posted tomorrow night from Chelsea and Channon's rock and roll wedding reception.

Hi Bill. It's been a while. I don't have a current e-mail or phone number. Help me out.
Great to hear from you. What are you doing that's exciting lately? How's the family? You can roughly see how we are by looking at our site. Let's hear an update from you, if you could.
Yes, the history thing took quite a bit of work. I might add a picture album with more good pictures from 1976, '77, when we were young. You also notice that my history only goes to 1981 so far - I don't have as many pictures and information as those first Tricks years, when I kept a band journal of nearly every night's shenanigans. It will be a lot more work completing the history. I also wouldn't mind doing a "pre-history" for all the members, as well as a "where are they now" section for previous members, but that sounds pretty ambitious, doesn't it?

Thanks to all for your great support in 2005. It's nice to have a regular bunch of people who come out and keep us company at all the different bars. It's good when we find strangers who really enjoy Tricks, but there's no substitute for friends and family who are there having fun with us on a regular basis. Thank you, thank you! See you in March with some new tunes under our belts. Check out the Sidetrack pictures. We got them up in record time, thanks to some computer improvements that Santa brought.

Larry, glad you looked at my history pages. That was a lot of work putting it all together. So far, so good. I still have lots of work to do for the 1980's. I kept a band journal and took lots of pictures in the years 1976 and 1977, so those pages were easy to fill up with good information.
After 1979 I don't have as many pictures, and I don't have any written records except an occasional old calendar with band dates written here and there. I also kept better records from around 1991, when I got my first Mac (I kept a database of our dates and money situation, with a few odd notes about gigs).
I'll send an e-mail out if I get a new chunk of history put together. I plan on fleshing out the history page as best as I can during the long cold winter nights while Tricks has a break from the bar scene. What else is there to do on Saturday nights? What do "normal" people do?
Happy New Year to all!

Just got back from our street fair gig here in Atlanta. Yes, I think Steve is talked into going next Wednesday. Okay Steve? I talked to Steve Wednesday, and told him to go listen to "So-Called Friend" and then tell me that he still isn't going.
PT is going to do a different setlist this time around, and when we see them on Wednesday they are going to do an even more different setlist because they want to get a good selection of songs to possibly put on the DVD that they're filming on Tues and Wed.
They'll for sure do "Deadwing", Arriving Somewhere", and "Halo" both nights; if you go to porcupinetree.com and check out the interview clips on the multimedia page, Steve Wilson says those are his faves. From the forum, though, you can read that they're doing "So Called Friend", which was a bonus track from the Deadwing special pre-order disc, which most of you should have from me.
They're also doing old PT songs "Strip The Soul", "Don't Hate Me", and "Radioactive Toy". But "So-Called Friend" will be one of the big drum songs.

Sorry, we temporarily cannot post pictures to the Tricks forum.
I have to come up with 55 bucks to renew my yearly "pro" subscription.
In the mean time, here's a link to a website with pictures from the Cleveland House of Blues Porcupine Tree show from Wednesday night.
We sat in the front row with Keith, the guy who took these pictures with permission from the band. It was the only night that there was seating in front of the band. Steve Wilson, before the last song said, "I hope you had a good time tonight. It's hard to tell with everyone sitting. You know, a raised eyebrow here, a tapping foot there..."

New Pictures from the Woodshed weekend are posted to the Tricksband.com website. What a great time!!
Even better (for geek-heads); I'm real proud of my work getting the "Gear" page completed . . . finally. Go to the site and look at all the cool pictures and descriptions of ALL the Tricks band equipment and instruments. I'm pretty happy with my hours and hours of work over the last couple weeks. And you all know how hard it is to make me happy.
Now if I can get going on that history page. I will, I will. I promise. It's hard digging into the past and having it make sense for those who weren't there. Those who were there, on the other hand, don't need me to remind them and might not even agree with my version of Tricks history. That's why I need some commentary from people other than myself. Yes, I have lots of excuses for why I'm taking so long to flesh out the Tricks history page.

I just made a change to the Tricks website.
It was not good that the main Tricksband.com "Home" page took so long to load. So I made a very small and simple home page that will come up quickly when you put in "tricksband.com". From that front page, you can click on "News" and it will take you to the latest pictures and news, like always.
But the "Home" page will only have 2 things; a list of links for the various pages on the site and a list of Tricks' immediate "upcoming dates".
Sorry I don't have the "Gear" or "Venue" pages ready yet. I'm working, I'm working, . . .
Any other suggestions or critiques?

Well Mark, if you were a better Tricks fan, you would notice that I'm wearing my Strat t-shirt in a total of 19 pictures on the Tricks website. The Spongebob shirt is only in 16 pictures. The "More Guitar" shirt and the "University of Guitar" shirts are tied for 3rd place with 15 appearances. The Red Wings shirt is in 12 pictures and the "University of Rock" is in 10. The Spongebob shirt is in all the Pool Party pictures because (as you would know if you would read the text and not just look at my pretty pictures) after one short break, I never stopped playing for over 4 hours straight. Any other complaints?

Hi Y'all!... been down in Alabama y'know? Seriously, it was an enjoyable little holiday, but now I'm ready to Rock. I'm so excited to be back "home" at Stan's, it may be hard to pace myself thru the first few sets (drummers need to do that) so I can really give that last set a kick. Anyone who hasn't danced their ass off to our new 4th set R&R medley is in for a treat! I am still catching up on things after vaca- and when I just visited this site I was surprised, good going Rick! I like the header - hey, how about Super Premium? Junior's little Tricks man is a grin, and the picture of Rick and I at The Note- can you believe that? We'll see y'all at Stan's (hope I get rid of this drawl)

We should have a great couple weekends at Stan's, our homebase.
For "Early Years" pictures we're going to need whatever pictures that Tim will let us scan and put online - 20 or 30 pictures ought to do it, I've seen Tim's stack of pictures and there are plenty of great pictures that ought to be shared. To bad there isn't any recording of Wedsel's Edsels. We plan on putting lots of sound clips online as well.

Junior,
Awesome picture from an awesome night. (Wouldn't you know, Rodney had to weasel into the picture? - just joking Rodney) It never would have happened without Jeanette's hard work.
Hmmm...Does Ben need a band for his first birthday party?

Thanks for the input, Crikity. Too bad you can't stay for a week and sample the great Dorr nightlife at Stan's Tavern. I hear they have some good bands there every once in a while.
I just got a new Canon scanner so I can scan all my old embarassing pictures of Steve and Krys, and put them on the Tricks website. I'm digging out old photo albums right now. I have lots of band pictures. I'll have fun putting up the "History of Tricks" page. Documenting 27 years is going to take bit of doing. What else is there to do on rainy days? Working on the Tricks website gets me out of housecleaning chores.

Crikity old Uncle Dan contributes:

Once upon a time, a long time ago, in a far and distant land called California, as a teenager, I saw Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps in concert. And yes, they did perform "Be Bop a Lu La". As I recall, the girls were quite a bit more impressed than the boys. I was driving my '52 Merc Monterey, black, 2" off the ground, molded and shaved at the time. Thought I was pretty hot stuff. Well, you asked, and there you have it. Good job on the web site, I'm impressed. See you soon,

WOW! Great work on the website, Rick. Cool. Ok, my first concert was Styx! That Tommy Shaw!! I loved show tunes as a kid...yes, I was weird child. My parents gave me great exposure to Johnny Cash, Simon and Garfunkel, The Everly Brothers and, of course, my Mom taught me to appreciate classical music. I love Zeppelin...always will. These days I listen to a bit of everything...Traffic, Norah Jones, Jethro Tull, Chopin, Nelly, Buffet, Nickel Creek and I just got Queens of the Stone Age...that David Grohl amazes me. I'm ready for more new music...anytime.

I'm very proud that you are my friends and my neighbors. I seriously brag about you ALL the time. Thank you for all the times you've shared your music with me. Be well!

Forgot to add that my first rock concert was at the Civic in G.R. 1955. The headliners were Chuck Berry and Fats Domino.

Thank you Rick, for all the hard work you have put into this website. It looks really good and your efforts show. This is a great forum to talk about new or old songs, likes or dislikes, possible events, etc. When Tim is feeling comfortable with the current set list, I would like to start adding some new or old songs. Are there any songs that we don't currently do that any of you miss or want us to give a try? I want to see Tim sing more. He has a great voice and we should be utilizing that talent. Tim, any songs that you are itching to sing?

I'm trying out this message forum because it's much easier and I like that people can subscribe to and receive e-mails from the entire forum, and not just one selected thread. This Tricks Forum needs to be as simple and straightforward as possible, so that computer users from beginnner to expert can use the forum. We don't need multiple discussion threads, just one ongoing message posting site, with optional e-mail to those who sign up for it.
