Intel has announced Dothan - the processor that went wrong. In the process, it has delayed updating its wireless LAN circuit in Centrino.

The 11g compatible version came out in January; but it is still not possible to make this work in 11b-only mode. Maybe the Queensland hack will make the release of Sonoma and the PCI Express network card more urgent?

Why isn't it currently possible for an owner of the hardware to switch it to 802.11g-only? Driver, or hardware/protocol limitation? If hardware, is it upgradeable?

And what happens at an 802.11g hotspot where some users have the dual-mode devices?

Will we see drive-by attacks on betting shops at critical moments?
