the federal executive council on jan 2008 approved the new industrial development strategy based on the cluster concept. this was initiated by the minister of commerce and industry,mr charles ugwu. i believe that it is a right step in order to revive the nigerian manufacturing sector which does contribute up to 7% to nigerian's GDP. it is well know that this cluster concept is a new strategy gaining ground in many countries today and it is a subject of major reserach today in the world. i believe that nigeria charcteriszed by infrastructural decay will benefit from this concept. it will guarantee the location of industries in particular regions so as to benefit immensely from agglomeration economies. economic infrastructures will provided in these regions in order to boost their performance. my particular intrest is on how this concept will help industrialization in anambra state particulary at nnewi largely referred as the japan of africa. industrial cluster at nnewi has lead to increased competition and division of labour. as a student of geogarphy and environmental management at university of portharcourt, iam intrested in conduting a research about the relationship between economic infrastructure and indusrial cluster development in anambra state. for industrial cluster to work in nigeria, the government must be ready to allocate money to infrastructural development especially in areas of transportation and energy
