Re: Algebra I - I thought the same thing. I'm checking on that now. Re: Next week's meeting - it is on IM, and we are currently setting details. Let me talk back to Debbie about opening it up or not and get back to you.

Loretta,

Robin Barbour, from DPI, will be at the Western Region Conference on Saturday to present and take questions. If you are attending, ask her. I thought it would count, but am not sure when it starts.

I found this on DPI's web site:

Question 2:
If a middle school student successfully passed the Algebra I course and EOC in 2006 - 2007 and then successfully passed the Geometry course and EOC in 2007 - 2008, will they receive 1 or 2 units of credit as they are promoted to the high school?
Answer:
Opportunity to receive high school credit for mathematics courses taken during 6-8 applies to students who are in grades 6 - 8 during 2007 - 2008. These students will "take" all of their high school credits from middle school to high school with them, even if the courses were taken before 2007 - 2008. If a student who is 8th grade during 2007-2008 successfully completes Geometry during 2007 - 2008, having passed Algebra I in 2006 - 2007 as a 7th grader, then that student will receive two units of high school mathematics credit as he or she enters high school in 2008-2009.

Debbie

Yes, we were told that 8th grade Alg I gets HS credit, as well.

At the conference, she said "Of course 8th grade Alg I students get HS credit".

Hi, everyone -
Tonight we will be taking a look at some sample Integrated Mathematics texts. For comparison and discussion sake, if you have an Algebra I or II or Geometry text (I know most of you do not teach these courses, but you may have a favorite reference), feel free to bring it.
See you tonight -
Tracie

we had a great discussion at last night's meeting. IM is going to be a bear the first year or two of implementation. It was great to hear from a student who has been throught the IM curriculum and then attended college. Tracie brought the SCOS for IM and we looked at how the curriculums are being integrated.

In attendance for middle school:

Shera Ashley
Karen Perry
Traci McLemore Salinas
Loretta Thomas

Next meeting we hope to have an IM teacher speak.

Linda -
We regularly have Karen Perry, Loretta Beaver, and Shera Ashley. They have been our most active participants this year. I have been serving as the ASU faculty contact for this group. Tracie

Don't you all meet together? Paperwork has been a nightmare on this end.

We do meet together, which gives us the ability to talk across grade levels and engage in some more meaningful activities. We have tried to keep attendance separately and to maintain the two Q-topic sites, though, because that is how they are set up. I don't think that any of us would complain about having a single Q-topic site or a single PLC for mathematics. We've just tried to work within the structure as we inherited it. I didn't think the paperwork on your end would be any different. We just both happen to meet on the same night and only require one room.
Middle grades participants usually include Loretta Beaver, Karen Perry, and Shera Ashley. Secondary grades participants usually include Jason Willis, Amy Worley, Roseanna Wade, Christina Pennington, and Claudette Reep. We have others who pop in occasionally, but this seems to be our standard attendance. From ASU, Debbie Crocker and I are usually in attendance.
Does anyone have a concern over joining into a single PLC?

Doing one large group would be fine by me. I usually do the notes and attendance for the middle school group, but it would make sense to combine the groups into one since we meet together. It would save two of us sending pretty much the same information to people who get info from the HS and MS PLCs.

Claudette is going to send attendance each meeting to my assistant and continue to post minutes fro both groups on Q-topic> Do we have any volunteers from this group to come to the "Deepening the Dialogue" activity? April 23-24. You will stay at the Broyhill have dinner, breakfast and lunch, sub paid, shadow math professor on Friday. If you are not interested please choose two people from the Partnership schools (total of two). Thanks

Are you wanting just high school? If you need middle school reps also, I would be willing.
