No, not a grandfather (yet). But I do believe I have the oldest offspring of the class - my daughter Gurushakti, aged 27 (born Nov '82).

Even if I had been no good at track I would have joined the track team back at the AHS just to hang out after school close to Andrea Weber!

Even if they're behind on their score so far, the Saints can take pride in their exquisite uniforms. Gold spandex and a fleur-de-lis, how very chic!

That's the thing with football players, their shiny tight spandex and constant desire to touch each other on the lawn would prompt some to question their sexual orientation, and I might agree. As I zipped through the golden-blue caressing I focused, as I always do, on the XLIV'th XLIV commercials. Worst lot of million-dollar ads I have ever seen during a global gridiron telecast. They were so bad, the one featuring the human bridge for Budweiser seemed brilliant for about a moment. Yikes. Even GoDaddy threw in the towel very early on. Geaux Saints! Too bad Everest left them. How's this for a tight golden look: http://www.dreyaweber.com/

Just got an email from Dan Reinstein's wife confirming their attendance at our Reunion in May! They are coming all the way from London, so I think they may win the honor of "Longest Distance Travelled."

Well, I've had an eventful morning already. It started when my cat, who is always locked out of the bedroom because we're allergic to her, JUMPED on my head this morning, clawing me in the back. I thought she went psycho, she's never done that before. I don't even know how she manged to get in because the bedroom door was closed as always. I put her back out of the room and tried to get back to sleep, but couldn't after that adrenaline rush. Then I heard sirens and voices outside. Looked out the window and saw firefighters in my driveway! Oh-oh, what's up? My first thought was the firepit. Yesterday I had a little bonfire to dispose of some Tarzan vines from the jungle, and didn't really put it out properly, I thought it might have spread. No such luck. It turned out to be the aviary. Last night was pretty cold, so I put on a heat lamp for the peacocks. Apparently the lamp got knocked down and torched the hay, wood, even MELTED part of the aluminum structure! Amazingly, all 6 birds were OK, although a bit freaked out. Now I have to deal with the mess.

Kudos to the cat for letting you know. Give her extra milk! And at least your local power plant didn't explode!
In Connecticut there was a massive explosion of a gas-fired plant yesterday, it was to be the largest such plant in New England. It was 95% complete. Booooom! Several deaths. Huge damage.
That just goes to show you how stupid it is for humankind to still be building power plants based on hydrocarbons when we could have gone nuclear decades ago. Ahh... but the ignorant populace is scared of the world nuclear. They don't mind power derived from taking tons and tons of flammable stuff out of the ground, wheteher it's oil, gas, or coal, the extraction of which is highly polluting, expensive and dangerous, and which generate massive waste, but they irrationally object to generating super clean power from a few kilos of atoms because their favorite anti-progress high school teachers and Hollywood movie stars told them so.

YOU are clearly pro-progress not anti-progress, no? I hope you tell your students that nuclear energy is a SOLUTION not a PROBLEM! Here is the way the typical anti-progress teacher/actor would talk about nuclear energy in the first paragraph: "It has pros and cons." "We must be sure it is 100% safe before we try it." "Chernobyl." "Nuclear waste." "Conservation." "Green." "Solar." "Wind." "Geothermal."
If you use ANY of those terms in the first paragraph of a nuclear energy discussion in class you are anti-progress.

Happy day for women in Latin America:
Costa Rica election win for Chinchilla shows women's rise in Latin America
Laura Chinchilla won the Costa Rica election Sunday. She'll be the country's first woman president, echoing a trend across Latin America where women are being voted into high-level political office in record numbers.

Excellent picture!!! Love that women are playing in the big leagues in LatAm. But all is not roses...some have seriously messed up, making it harder for the next one. That's how people think.
Nukes are the only answer we have now. There are pros AND cons, but the pros have it. WHAT THE HELL in this world is 100% safe? Just beginning with whether you eat, breathe, or drink anything you are already taking a risk. But what is the choice? Oh, yeah, die right away instead of taking your chances.
PS Hooray for the peafowl!! Glad they made it.

A little reunion humor, courtesy of Armando Ortiz, Class of 74:
A group of 40-year-old buddies discuss and discuss where they should meet for dinner. Finally it is agreed upon that they should meet at Gasthaus Gutenberger restaurant because the waitress's there have low cut blouses and nice breasts.
10 years later, at 50 years of age, the group meets again and once again they discuss and discuss where they should meet. Finally it is agreed upon that they should meet at the Gasthaus Gutenberger because the food there is very good and the wine selection is good also.
10 years later at 60 years of age, the group meets again and once again they discuss and discuss where they should meet. Finally it is agreed upon that they should meet at the Gasthaus Gutenberger because they can eat there in peace and quiet and the restaurant is smoke free.
10 years later, at 70 years of age, the group meets again and once again they discuss and discuss where they should meet. Finally it is agreed upon that they should meet at the Gasthaus Gutenberger because the restaurant is wheel chair accessible and they even have an elevator.
10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group meets again and once again they discuss and discuss where they should meet. Finally it is agreed upon that they should meet at the Gasthaus Gutenberger because that would be a great idea because they have never been there before.

I guess the Class of 74 forgot that joke already, it's an old one!
Here's another old one you can send Armando Ortiz, Class of 74:
A 74-year-old man went to the doctor's office to get a sperm count. The Doctor gave the man a jar and said, "Take this jar home and bring me back a sample tomorrow."
The next day, the 74-year-old man reappears at the doctor's office and gives him the jar, which is as clean and empty as the previous day.
The doctor asks what happened, and the man explains, "Well, Doc, it's like this. First I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, but nothing. Then with her left, but nothing. She even tried with her mouth, first with her teeth in, then with he teeth out, and still nothing. Hell, we even called up the lady next door, and she tried with both hands and her mouth too, but nothing."
The doctor was shocked. "You even asked your neighbor?"
The old man replied, "Yep, but no matter what we tried, we couldn't get that damn jar opened!"
