Anatole,

You're right about sales not meaning much in the quality department. But, I do think ID crisis has been fun and that Metzler is a talented writer. The burning question is, will you buy #3?

Well, I wouldn't call rape and murder, as well corrupting the values of heroes (which I consider central to what they're all about) "fun".

That said, I will buy #3, because I want to see where this goes. But if they have Superboy sodomized in a prison scene (which I almost expect at this point), there's no way I'm buying #4.

Mario,

One word: "decaf"

The "Grim 'N' Gritty" period started around 1982 with the ascent of Wolverine and Punisher, and then hit Batman in 1986 with "The Dark Knight Returns."

Hmmmmm.....I'm trying to remember if the famous Miller/DD run was officially started in '79 and often credited as starting the "grim & gritty" period that you scoff at but I'll defer to dan & jk.

"....superboy sodomized in prison"?!?!? What the hey-uhl have you been watching man??

I wouldn't ocunt Daredevil as Grim 'n' Gritty, because DD wasn't a vigilante psychopath who basked in violence in the Miller stories.

DD was certainly darker, but more in the vain that the '70s Batman was more the "Darkknight Detective" who operated from the shadows.

Thank you Mr. Joe for voicing deserved praise for the new Astonishing X-MEN comic. I am enjoying uncanny as well, with Claremont and Davis proving they can still be an enjoyable creative team. I really like the "feel" of the x-books right now. The one thing missing for me is Colossus. He would fit in nicely with either one of those titles right now. And like they say, nobody is really dead in comics anyway, right?

COLOSSUS.....YES, I concur!!!! They definately need to bring him back. A Cassaday penciled P. Rasputin would be a sight to see.

I must say the vacation JK took sure agreed with him. He was unusually perky on the phone when I called on monday AND I learned that $20 buys you 10lbs of hash on the island of maui......who knew?????

Aw man....you lied. Kevin just ousted you. We paged through Astonishing #1 and the P. Rasputin appearance you're talking about is a ghostly apparition. That don't count....I meant an armoured up COLOSSUS appearance. And yes Anatole, Colossus has been dead for quite some time but i couldn't tell you how he died cause it was in Uncanny and I had stopped reading it for a while. You'll need to ask uncle JK.

That's an exact quote. Eat it, Mario.

Anyone seen the new book by Dez Skinn, COMIX THE UNDERGROUND REVOLUTION? Please be advised that Dez stole some of the photos used in the book and did not give photo credit. The book is a worthless rip off and not to be taken seriously.

This is not about new comics, but just FYI, on e-bay, I'm selling my hardcover collection of the stories in the Monster Society of Evil saga from the 1940s Captain Marvel series. The URL is:
http://search.ebay.com/Monster-Society-of-...redirectZ1QQfromZR8.
It's #2340 of a 3000 limited edition, and it's in very good shape, including the hard slipcase.

I'm laughing pretty hard at the Ninth Art review of Identity Crisis. http://www.ninthart.com/display.php?article=899

"If you start with murder, move onto rape, then by the seventh issue, you're really only left with gassing an entire island of seven-year-old orphans."

The reviewer doesn't seem to like it, but is willing to give Brad Meltzer "the benefit of the doubt"

So the Identity Crisis #3 was a little more palatable, because of who they killed off (I never liked her anyway), and it recalled one of my favorite old series, the Secret Society of Super-villains.

Stupid stuff (spoilers)

1) Wouldn't an arrow in the eye kill you? 2) The moral issues are why GA and Hawkman have quarrelled (good naturedly, if you look back) all these years? Don't think so. 3) They said the second woman who was killed went public with her divorce. Um, wouldn't that have compromised her husband's secret ID? *He* never went public.

Looks like they're setting up the potential victims for next time--will it be Robin's dad or Jimmy Olsen? Will we care?
