Society’s biggest problem 1

 

Some people think that politic is the most serious problem in our society, while other consider that the economic is the main issue that the government and people should work for harder.  However, I personal think the difference in values between the new and old generation is the biggest problem in our society.  Many society phenomena are the results of difference in value between these two generations. 2

 

First of all, the unemployment rate is rising every year.  Although hard to find a suitable and well-pay job is considered to be a factor of increasing unemployment rate, people who are seeking for a job is actually the main cause that procures the phenomenon of high unemployment.  People, nowadays, would rather stay at home if they cannot find a better job they want than work for economical need.  Compare with economical need, the reputation seems to be more important to them.  However, different from the new generation, people used to work for their need without regard to the status of occupation.  Therefore, their difference in values causes two different results; one was to create an economical miracle, and one is to make an economical crisis. 3

 

Secondly, the number of people committing suicide is increasing gradually every year.  The number only tells one thing- people cannot bear as same pressure as the old generation people did.  In the past, when people encountered a difficulty, they usually sought for solution or tried to overcome it.  In contrast with the old generation, people, today, tend to avoid the difficulty rather than conquer it, such as the use of credit card without limit.  Regardless of the consequence, they just keep applying for credit cards and using them.  It is not until they smash up their credit and pill up their bill that they will realize how serious it can be.  Under the circumstance, they can only ask help from their parents, avoid the problem or seek for death.  4

 

        Then, because of the difference in values, people are no longer following the moralities.  According to the latest abortion statistics estimated by obstetrics and gynecology organization, there are 400,000 people having abortion in each year in Taiwan and the number is higher than the birth rate.  Not only the number of people having abortion is becoming higher every year, but the age of people having sexual experience is also getting lower.  Young people, today, believe that as long as they want to, why not to do it.  They only enjoy the process without considering the consequence, which is the reason for the society phenomenon.  Their values in love seem to be short, fast, and unrealistic. 5

 

To sum up, there is no doubt that the new generation people are more confident, intelligent, and well-educated than the old generation.  On the other hand, they are more conceited, immoral and weaker to take responsibility.  Eventually, our country is going to be handed down from the old generation to new generation.  With so many society problems caused by new values, as a citizen of this society, I cannot help but start to worry about the future of the country. 6
