BeatleJohn: They've added a Waterfire for July 4. I got a room at the Raddison overlooking the bay where the fireworks are gonna be.
A reminder to all that July 4 marks the 33rd anniversary of me losing my virginity...

That's very cool. We had a room at the Marriot a couple weeks ago that overlooked the river and the fire. As you know, we didn't end up going and just as well as it rained all night.
Also, if you remember, the holiday used to be Washington's Birthday. Then, to include Lincoln they started calling it President's Day. I think there is an act before Congress to somehow morph Independence Day with El Jefe Not A Virgin Day.

Ah, I remember the El Jefe Not A Virgin Days of my youth. The potato salad, the fireworks, the copious quantities of scotch... Also, I was perusing the winners of this year's Little Lytton contest for unintentionally funny sentences in books. http://adamcadre.ac/09lyttle.htmlMy favorite is "Alex turned to Gertrude, in much the same way Martin Landau turned to Barbara Bain in the opening of Space: 1999."

I have a feeling that multiple plane crashes and so-many-celebrity-deaths-one-can't-keep-track-of-them-all is a sign of the End Times. (It's hard to believe it's been less than a month since David Carradine started this whole thing.) I think the 14-year old girl who survived the last plane crash is the next Dalai Lama. After 40 days, Neda Soltani will rise from the dead to rule by her side over the remaining kaos and rubble. I hope you guys stowed away plenty of survival rations.

No, Madman, I will not add Malden to the list. Clearly the only death that matters is Michael Jackson's. It is the only possible news story. It must ascend above all others. All channels must dedicate every second of free time talking about his will, his children, his viewing, his funeral (where will it be! What will he be wearing!), until the entirety of news in indistinguishable from TMZ or Access Hollywood.

Thanks for not noticing but I didn't spell Marriott correctly. If we had booked a Holidae In I'm sure I would have gotten that right.

Last night on tv I watched the remake of Psycho. Can anyone tell me what was the point? It was like watching a high school play version of Psycho. Anyway, Happy 4th to all. I'm celebrating by listening to WAQY's "Uncle Sam Jam" marathon, because nothing says America like classic rock tunes by such American greats as Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and ACDC.

To my mind, van Sant's film is the worst offender of all the needless remakes and re-imaginings. (fill in with your own list) I recall when it came out, the Asshole Remark was when he referred to it as a 'cover version' because it was a shot-for-shot remake. I've never seen it and never will.
My 4th: Mom's gone to see my brother's family out of state, so it's just P. and I. Thus far the celebrations have included tracking down what on her PC keeps trying to access a non-existent share on mine, substituting the Foreman for an actual grill, maybe tearing a bit deeper into manually configuring iptables to fix an emerging issue connecting to some websites, watching a movie or two, and stepping into the parking lot to watch the city's fireworks. And sleep. At some point.

Obviously, S. Palin is behind the killing of Steve McNair--done to take the media heat off her.
