I got a few from that Waldens. They had a different location in the mall if I remember. My issue with Waldens in the past 5 years is the focus on non-book items. If you are a megastore and broaden the slate of things to sell, fine. But the amount of plushies, games, and other tie-ins take up a lot of shelf space. And while Borders does a great job of getting most new SF on the shelves and keeping it there for at least a month, Waldens is now almost exclusively Young Adult Fantasy, Star Trek and Warhammer tie-ins, and Terry Pratchett. A bookstore that you can't actually browse through is a blight. A while back there was an outcry about the death of independent book stores, which ignored the salient fact that most independent book stores were horrible places with crap selection who wouldn't special order anything for you. I save up most of my new book buying for Readercon and Boskone, which usually have the same three indy booksellers I like to buy from. Borders gets most of my magazine business. Whatever book store is the first to keep sealed magazines with CD inserts (like Prog or ImagineFX) behind the registers so idiots can't open/ruin them (and take the CDs) will get my business.
Meanwhile, I'm gonna buy the download of the new Hackett album.
I'm still pushing for BNO. Next weekend, anyone?

I cannot understate how critical that Waldenbooks was to me in the pre-Amazon.com years I lived in the Acres. Dozens of books still on my shelf came out of there. (And one of the staff I met there, eventually, came out.)

I am at Megafest all week-end and from there I'm not sure as my aunt is coming in from out of town.

I am out all week, but home most weekends. I usually get home Sat. mornings and go out again early Mon. or sometimes late Sun. so Saturday nights are best for me. Looking forward to it.

Okay, we must plan a Boys Night Out in earnest. The next two weekends are open. 21st and 22nd are Megafest. I'm there Saturday, I assume BeatleJohn is there all weekend. Weekend after thanksgiving is also open. I can do Fridays, but they entail driving up from Stamford, so later (7ish) is better. Saturdays are wide open. TruckerDave: what is your schedule these days?
