what I found interesting in the Stretch Armstrong story was that they are going to make a movie based on the game Battleship.

OK, someone has to say it. The whole planet is talking about how badly The Who sucked. My feeling is simple, pre-recorded backing track with live vocals and guitar so the mix isn't what middle America can understand so therefore The Who sucks. Oh, well. If you want to play the Super Bowl and put yourself in front of that crowd you should expect that response.

I was watching Puppy Bowl. That being said, the idea of rigging a full-blown stage, with lights, pyro, and effects, during the course of a commercial break is silly enough. Even if you roll the whole thing out, you still have a lot of issues to worry about. Aside from audio connections, there's the fact that instruments dragged from an air-conditioned waiting room to a humid Miami evening tend to de-tune. It is a rule in TV that when you know you have an viewership that big you don't take chances on the performers actual talent. There was a great article in TV Tech a few years back from the audio engineer who handled the U2, McCartney, and Aerosmith Super Bowl performances. He said the biggest hurdle is convincing the talent that they are not playing a concert. Half-time shows are unique creatures.

The Who have always been hit or miss. When Pete's on, he's on fire. Sunday, her wasn't on. His vocals were louder than Roger's, which makes for a bad mix. Also, I thought the transitions between song snipets was jarring. However, Zak's red-white-and blue cymbals were awesome. Bottom line: Even bad Who is better than most shit.

I will be staying at work, and a nearby hotel, until Thursday evening. I will ensure that I have sufficient staffing to keep my client networks running. All evening, as I try to relax, I will get calls and text mesages from my 25-30 yr old staffers asking me to "do shots with us, dude!" or informing me that "We have Rock Band II in Joe's room!" I will endure all this as a dutiful manager. I will occasionally gaze out at the icy desolation of Long Island Sound and wistfully imagine how swiftly I could be pulled under and lost in oblivion's cold embrace...
