It's only fair that I go first. I'm Roger Karraker. My wife Sandy and moved to Forestville in 1983. The following year we bought land on Nolan Road, near Giusti Road, designed and home and built it.
Sandy is a retired social worker. I'm a journalism teacher at Santa Rosa Junior College. Our four kids are all grown, thank God. We have six grandchildren. We like to travel. (Ask us about home exchanges; we've four of them, all good).
I'm active in computer geek-dom and in politics. These two interests come together in my creating www.95436.com.

I'm Drea and I live off HWY 116 in Pocket Canyon. My mom and I moved to this same old house in '92. She passed away here in '99. I'm not sure why I haven't left this town, as I'm an offbeat girl just turning 31 and loving the solo life as an artist (music, writing, painting, cuisine, earth building). Shouldn't I actually venture further??!!! Maybe not...I love this town. I think I have a special connection to the trees or something....maybe it's the land and the history of this place. I feel guarded by the hills and even the people I don't know in town...
I live a very quiet life in the canyon next to a creek with a couple of spoiled adorable mutts I call "Beans" and "Rice." I read a lot, play drums, record music, write stuff, paint stuff and play around in my kitchen quite a bit. I talk to myself even. Most of my friends live in LA, San Diego or very, very far away...I do a lot of collaborative art over the net. I work very hard at all this every day.
I view myself as a backwoods eccentric. I have no career and have never had one. I may get one eventually. I'm in the process of doing research on PHD programs as I am interested in studying more cultural studies and modern critical theory....I'm chewing on a few ideas about this and mostly trust that I'll end up where I am supposed to be in terms of academic thought and practice. I love postmodern literature and thought for personal reasons; my own short life has been fragmented, hectic and somewhat elusive. I know, how can your own life elude you? I'm using art to work through that mystery...I would like to teach someday...I have a couple of degrees already. I'm sure you can tell that I'm "just getting started," as they say....
I'm a healthy person. I eat all organic food from Laguna Farms in Sebastopol, run and do yoga every day, and try to meditate regularly. I want to become more involved in Forestville and hope that I can offer my best to it!
I'm proud to also introduce myself as a former journalism student of Roger Karraker's. I admire his vision and am here to participate as much as I can. He's taught me some very important stuff through the years. I think I can vouch for the guy's knack to bringing technology, ehem, I mean communication, to communities. I have a totally new vision of Forestville as a result of this site and cannot wait to see what unfolds here through time...

My husband, Fred, and I live in Hacienda, one of the umbrella communities of Forestville. Actually, down the hill from Joan R. We have been very proud of Joan and what she has achieved to help all that is good in and for Forestville. Would very much like to become more active in the FPA. Keep talking about this and now it is time to do something.
I have been a summer resident of our property since 1929 although I do not remember my Grandparents bringing me here when they purchased the property from the Wasson family at that time. So many wonderful summers here as I grew up. After Fred and I married, he too enjoyed summer vacations at "The Cabin" as did our children eventually. We finally moved here "full time" when Fred retired in 1995. I still work in Santa Rosa.
It is my intention to start attending the Historic Society meetings as well as the FPA meetings. Just need to get these dates down on the calendar. I'd like to learn more and perhaps contribute.
Thank you for affording this opportunity to open a new community door. Now all I have to do is walk through!
Thanks again, Joan.

My wife, Susan Shaw, and I have lived in Forestville for just over 4 years. We came here from New England, Brattleboro, Vermont, to be exact. Susan had lived here in Sonoma County previously for about 20 years. I finally left home at 58.
When we left Vermont we had no jobs and no place to live at this end of the trip. We had friends, of course, and we were fortunate to find a house in Forestville within a couple weeks. I'm a fifth generation Vermonter but Forestville is now my home.
In Brattleboro I served 10 years on the Brattleboro Planning Commission - a long time. I also was involved in creating the local access channel on the cable TV system, an organization that still exists. I wrote a newspaper column for the Brattleboro Reformer for a number of years. Later I wrote for the Keene (NH) Sentinel.
I've performed in community theater most of my adult life - over 40 shows to date. Since I came to California I've been in "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" in Sebastopol, "Longshot" (Cam Parry's show) at the Merlot Theater, and most recently I was in "The Mikado" with the Santa Rosa Players.
I've written a stage play, I'm working on a novel, Susan and I like to cook and garden.
And, although I've been here four years, I've been reluctant to particpate much. I remember how I tended to resent people from "outside" coming in with all sorts of advice.
I agree that Forestville is on the verge of something and I applaud the people who have begun to organize. The only hope for any sort of concensus or agreement is through long and thorough discussion. Forestville is a very pleasant place to live. It would be a shame if it were to get out of hand.
Which is not to say that there should be no growth at all. Just keep it sensible and in keeping with the present nature of the community.

To Drea, Mary, David and all those who come after this:
This discussion software has a serious shortcoming. It shows only your name, but not your email address. Hence, there's no way any of us can reply to you other than in a discussion. As you can see from the above example, I want to get in touch with Drea, but unless she returns to the Introductions page (and there's no reason to do so), she'll never see my request.
So here's my request:
Please pop over to the 95436.com main site and leave a comment to an article posted there. The comment will prompt you for both your name AND email address and then I'll be able, for example, to write Mary back and ask her more about her summers on the River. (Did she really start coming here in 1929?? That's amazing.)

I moved to Forestville in 2000 from Petaluma. I am a business consultant specializing in business administration, stategic planning, and implementing conversions from manual to computerized bookkeeping for small to medium size organizations. I am also a mobile Notary Public, so I travel to the client for their convenience. I live in Pocket Canyon with an antique dog and some cats I rescued and tamed. I have yet to get out and meet people in town or get involved as I've had family matters in Washington to handle. Looking forward to getting to know you! If anyone has high speed internet access information for Pocket Canyon, please let me know. I don't know the quality of Satallite access, and there doesn't seem to be any other choice. The phone dial up is too slow for my business needs!

I was pleased and surprised to "stumble" over this website. My husband and I have owned property in Forestville for about 4 years.
We are interested in becoming more aware about the future plans for the town. (addressing traffic flow problems, future development plans, etc.)
We were attracted by the small town feel of the area and would not want to see this totally lost as the area grows.

***HOPING TO GATHER ANY UNWANTED WALNUTS!!! My name is Brenda and i'm renting a cute place on 6acres in sebastopol. Six months ago, my landlord's daughter (who volunteers @ wildlife rescue) set free four bottle-fed orphan grey squirrels in my backyard. she left a big bag of nuts & cones & i took it from there. having been off work for some hand surgeries and bored silly under Dr.'s orders to lay low, i filled my day hunting for unwanted walnuts and ended up spoiling the heck out of the 4 beasts & of course, their friends got in on the action too. i know i must ween them off my support(actually, i must ween myself from them!), its been hard-they really know how to work me! i put out about 15max in-shell walnuts a day (was triple that, have lots-o-baby walnut trees everywhere!). the little creeps have tantrums if i cut back-you'd be amazed at some of the stories. having spent way too much time w/the squirrels, i've gotten to a point of being able to tell a few apart-such characters! yes,i've learned/am learning quite a lesson! oh...i have a new respect for parents too since my pre-squirrel days. i work in a grocery store & have seen how kids work their parents when they want something...i'd think the parent should say "...no because i said no!!". it seems like they'd all always give in(spoiled kids!)...if only i could speak squirrel, i'd tell them i was cutting em off asap, then i wouldnt have to worry any are starving. im not crazy-just full of love(spoiled kids!). eventually mother nature will regain the reins, im trying..........its off season...do you have a stash of walnuts getting musty in a cupboard somewhere? do you really think you might eat them?? think of the extra space you'd have!!---thank you!!
