Ok, I understand dogging on Chicago, but one must admit that all of those really fun clothes and lingerie are like a dream come true! There's more satin and lace in that movie than I've ever seen in my life!

I saw Elf on Saturday night and loved it. The last 20 minutes kinda bugged me a bit, but Will Farrell is a genius. It was also funny to see Caan in such a role.

As for Chicago, I never saw it. I have no desire to see it. Why? Because they made this big deal about it and I KNOW it wasn't better then Mouline Rouge! How do I know, My wife told me it wasn't and so did my best friend, paulie, whose an actor. MR should have won best picture and this is the academy making up for it NOT winning... stupid way to show it if you ask me.

Ijust recently rented A Mighty Wind as well. Was pretty good but I agree with what you said about PP and not as good as Best In Show. Still funny.
I don't rent a lot of newer movies and never go to theatres. I just rented Shock Corridor from the library but haven't watched it yet. We watch a lot of SpongeBob videos with the kid. Good stuff.

You're right of course. I really dug 'Alice', but haven't seen Faust yet. Svankmajer's "Otesanek/Little Otik" looks wonderful, but I haven't found one for rental yet.
Here's a movie I had to buy that probably isn't known very well, William Klein's "Mr. Freedom". A French satire of American hubris and coarseness, from ca 1968. Centered on an American supero and his efforts to rid France of the 'Red Menace', very witty, tongue in and piercing the cheek. The special effects look like a mixture of HR Puffinstuff (sp?) and any number of MST3K fare. Check it out if you can find it.
As far as movies probably available for rental now, I can't speak highly enough about "Love Liza" and "Irreversible" from the last year... both are downers to be sure and the latter is one of the most difficult movies to watch I've seen (up there with "The Piano Teacher" in the ick factor without actually being a horror movie). "Irreversible", along with "Zardoz" by John Boorman, imprinted Beethoven's Seventh symphony into my skull, burnt it into my eardrum.
And that's a good thing!

yup I reviewed that movie in the zine issue you're now reading. It's one of my faves. ;-)

The same filmmaker also did stopmotion film called Faust.

Bonnie-
I am reading your Grrl #8 as we speak (it is fun!) and it reminded me of a movie you can try through Netflix :Jan Svankmajer's Neco z Alenky, maybe listed as Alice. A real trippy and wonderful retelling of Alice in Wonderland via puppetry and stop-motion photography. IMDB has a listing
as well http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095715/. Worth checking out.
Best,
Justin
