I met Rich in 2000; he was brought in to participate at an otherwise forgettable consulting project (John Seely Brown, who was loosely connected to our consulting group, got him involved). Damn smart, funny, and -- best of all -- able to come up with phrases and ideas which were simultaneously meaningful and memorable. He was downsized from PARC (unbelievably) about the same time the consulting group I was with evaporated; we corresponded a few times after that, swapping references for possible work.

He died not long afterwards. Thanks for posting the link to the richgold.org site, Andrew.

I absolutely agree with you on the importance of his creative legacy. I was bowled over by his work when I encountered it (but sadly not him) a few years ago at Xerox Research, Cambridge (which was downsized by the same heavy-handed axe). As an artist-turned-technologist-turned-researcher myself, I find his approach startling and inspiring.

I notice that http://www.richgold.org is now offline. I'd like to try to make sure it is back on (and permanently so). If anyone is organising this effort, and needs some assistance, let me know -- tim (at) red56.co.uk

I was searching for some writing that Rich did on the Junk Tribe this morning. Does anyone have a pointer to how I can find this work? THANKS
