Hi, I have these episodes about 2 times every six months. They really disturb me. But I trick myself into thinking that I am moving and then i look and i haven't moved at all. It's really weird. Do I need to tell a doctor about this? I hear the very loud buzzing and random noises, like hallucinations of things. usually evil in nature.

I have this problem pretty frequently when I sleep in the supine position. It happens to mostly after a lucid dream. When it happens I try to move as fast as I can, and I wake up and move my body and then sleep in the prone position so that the same thing doesn't happen again. I know it happens to me but whenever it happens, its a frightening experience. The frightening part is the labour you need to put to sit up or to change your posture. Apparently, I have figured out that if I am not able to move in my position while I am sleeping causes this condition. My advice in this case is, use a bigger bed, prefer sleeping sideways or in a prone position, which necessitates your turning sides during sleep and use a good pillow. The last attack I had was around 2-3 months back and now a days I don't sleep in the supine position any more to avoid the condition and it has improved my condition.

Jelly,
There isn't anything to be spooked by. To me it is like a lucid dream only you get the wonderful sensation of flight. I don't believe you actually leave your body, that is just what it feels like. Just push away from your body next time you are in SP. This way you don't have to disrupt your sleep and you can carry on dreaming =)

Janet, that's quite amazing. Have you searched results? very interesting..
Fiz, I take ambien for sleep and while I wait for it to kick in there'll be scene from a movie that suddonly takes my sub concious mind to "a feeling" or like a "remember" or "I've seen that " but it last for half a second and ONLY on this medication.
Is there a way to visit amazing places in my sp with out the OBE thing.. I'm very iffy, and spooked bye it.

Dave,
Yes, it is a more uncommon form. It is the only form of SP I get now and it always starts out as a normal dream and can then turn very nasty. Once I even collapsed while the someone came over to me with a knife.
Michelle,
I will happily teach you. It is easier to keep track with emails. I have had this email address for a very long time haha...

Mzzz, Yeah, it's kind of neat. I guess I should have clarified that really I posted that because I wonder if perhaps that could go hand in hand in some cases. They have those tests on line: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp is just one of them on random search. Totally off subject eh? :)

Dave & Mzzzz i'm not sure how long the sp lasts but i guess its prob only seconds but feels like a lot longer and i imagine an outsside force would wake one out of sp ie. a nudge or maybe a smell so I would hope that the smell of smoke would wake one! anyway I'm off to bed hopefully for a peaceful sleep!

Jane and Fiz, thanks for your repsonses. The dreams I have seem very real. They are not dreams that would be unbielevable at all. In fact, the one last night- I thought that someone was pounding on my door, but when I woke up and got out of the SP I wondered if the pounding on my door was really happening at my neighbors house and not mine. I actually listened for a while and was also afraid to go back to sleep thinking that it was really happening. Once I could move I also wanted to get up and look outside the window. Mostly the dreams are that someone is already in my house and in my room, but I cannot move or say anything. In the dream part it seems as though I am like half awake. Again, I have never had the SP without the scary dream. Is this uncommon?

Sorry I haven't been on in a while I had some family in from out of town. I haven't been fearful of SP in a long time and then the other night my Dad asked me what would happen if I was in an SP episode and a fire broke out in my home, I never thought about that. I told him that I just have to hope that that would never happen. Fiz, if you could explain how to do OBE I would greatly apprpeciate it.

Dave,
Yes they happen to me and I called them Lucid Sleep Paralysis. You are aware it is a dream, but you can't move in it and you feel all the same fears. I usually dream about a murder and for me they are more intense than normal SP.
Just hang in there, I'm not quite sure how to escape them yet and they are rare for me too. You are not alone =)
Everyone else,
I'm thinking of seeing the nurse about depression. I dont think I should have this many mood swings. At the moment I just feel like crap even though I have no reason to. It is linked to my sleeping too, so maybe combat the depression, combat the SP. Anyone here feel very depressed when suffering from SP? I notice a lot of newcomers here scared out of their wits when they first post.

I have SP very infrequently, maybe one or two times a year. I am usually having a dream that someone is trying to break into my home or someone is already in my home and I cannot do anything about it because I cannot move or say anything. It is very freightening to me. Last night it was someone pounding on my front or back door at 2:00 am demanding that I let them in. Do the scary dreams with SP happen to anyone else? Is there any reasearch as to why it happens this way? It has only ever happened to me when I have a scary dream.
