Xmas Days

Starting tomorrow we'll be serializing short excerpts from Derek McCormack's new book Christmas Days. The book is set up as an advent calendar of oddball little stories, the kind of thing that gets us so hot for McCormack. Remember Derek was the one who gave us The Haunted Hillbilly, the story of Hank Williams' gay vampire rodeo tailor... We've just been waiting for him to tackle Giftmas. Gosh, I hope there are gay vampires in it... We didn't have time to do a review, so every day until the 24th of December, we'll add a new excerpt from the book.

I Am Not Well

Maud Newton points out that Joyce's "The Dead" is available online. I'm more partial to Barthelme's "Game" myself, especially given the times.

I think the excerpt thing is just plain smart, a great way to find an audience. One of these days I'll start reading novels again, at which point I'll buy, beg, borrow or steal a copy of Please.

Self-serving Promotion or Act of Literary Charity?

I've posted a chapter of Please, my first book, on my website for free download. It's called "What Happened to Our Baby?"
