/m21"Until I see verifiable statistics, I can't believe that there are as many paedophiles per capita in the general public as in the church"
That's a bit of a slick logical move, Zach. You make an unsupported (though widely believed) assertion and when you're called on it, you demand verifiable proof that it's untrue. Let's see your statistics first.
The date you first posted your comments was around the same day that they rescued that six-year old girl in North Carolina. This discovery led them to a "ring" (not sure why they always use that word) of pedophiles...it included priests and ministers sure, but it also included scout masters, teachers and day care workers. Pedophiles are going to be drawn to whatever professions give them access to children. Despite the discovery of pedophile teachers, I've never heard anyone suggest dismantling the school system.
"ecept insofar as sexual self-denial is a perversion--which it is"
If we're going to be openminded about sexuality and tolerate a wide range of its expression, that tolerance must extend to those who make the decision not to engage in it. If "liberal openmindedness" simply means keeping the same categories of "healthy" and "perverted" (which it truly seems to) but switching around the groups to which those labels are applied, then it stands revealed as not openmindedness at all, but rather an ideology that fails to recognize its own contradictions.
