Harvard Law School is one of many hubs forming the Copyleft movement - here misspelled as The Copy Left. The movement was not begun by Lessig but in fact by the 'software programmers' including Richard M. Stallman, who coined the term and whose Free Software Foundation leads the copyleft movement to this day.

The purpose of copyleft is freedom on a truly international scale - referring to a self-imposed intellectual 'hub', which is not recognised by others in the copyleft movement, centralises and authoritises the movement, and detracts from its true origins and purpose. Also it is just blatantly inaccurate and wrong.

Try not to lump us all in with the same political movement. Not every Copyleft advocate agrees with Jefferson.

"Peer to peer" is the wrong term - "peer to peer" does not mean collaborative work, it is a term describing a type of Internet-based computer connection. "Peer research" is the term that the author is seeking to use.

Digital Rights Management or DRM does not translate to a micropayment system. The two may exist together, or may exist entirely seperate of one another. DRM is the method of locking down content so that it may not be accessed without payment and may not be circumvented according to the DMCA. It is also the racket under which Lexmark managed to create a monopoly over printer cartridges - this and other cases of antitrust were omitted from the story.

...err, yes it does! Has this guy actually read www.creativecommons.org ? Creative Commons is a collection of licenses which permit sharing of content, under those terms, you can use that content in any system you wish. and all 'kinds of culture' are welcome.

Fisher did not invent the concept of compulsory licensing - afaik Lessig did. Fisher's system may have taken three years to develop, but falls into the same trap of many other 'compulsory' systems - it will still violate the users' privacy. I'll leave aside his rather derogatory references two paragraphs down, to 'second world countries like Croatia and Brazil' as being 'pirate' nations.

Where were the EFF in this story? or the many others whose key work has been omitted from this 'roundup' on the tyranny of copyright. Richard M. Stallman founded the movement, yet his pioneering work worldwide was blithely dismissed as 'a bunch of software programmers sharing materials'. I would invite the author to consult more thoroughly with the Copyleft community, learn how to spell the name of our movement, and then rewrite his article to correct his inaccuracies and to include those whose hard work has been omitted.

And just to remind him... it is spelt Copyleft, not The Copy Left.

Lessig does not refer to himself in any of his materials or websites as Copyleft. This is because the Creative Commons does not only cover Copyleft licenses, but other variants, non-commercial licenses, and public domain licensing. Copyleft itself translates as the Attribution - Share-Alike CC license. For a license to be Copyleft, it must permit the user to share the materials, on the grounds that the license is preserved. This was Richard Stallman's groundbreaking innovation - by borrowing the concept of inheritance from computer programming, he created a hereditary license - one that must be preserved in all subsequent sharing and use of the work. Thus, he prevented Copyleft-licensed works from being reabsorbed into proprietary distribution, and also required that proprietary establishments who taking segments from Copyleft-licensed work must then license the derivative work as Copyleft also.
