Brander's going to write a winamp plugin for playlists. :)

which randomly scatters the tracks amongst your library

sorry, alf. One way to gather the tracks would be to sort your library by track length. Should group the remote tracks.

It's a little easier than that (at least with Mac iTunes). You can do File>Import, but it's easier to just drag the downloaded file into the Source area on the left - that adds the playlist.
Unfortunately Safari automatically opens downloaded M3Us with iTunes, which randomly scatters the tracks amongst your library. Something to bear in mind if you're unfortunate enough to have thought (but not quite enough) about listening to the longest playlist ever. Grr.

iTunes won't even let you drag the URL in -- it has to be a downloaded local copy of the playlist. Maddeningly stupid.

There's also a list of resources at Days of Leisure. I welcome criticism, additions, and comments on the How To.

Also, check out my playlist. Word. There are others. This one's an m3u. That means that on Windows, you can use winamp, and on Mac, you can use iTunes, though you'll have to save the playlist, create an iTunes playlist, and drag the saved playlist into it. ITunes is not too playlist friendly! What's up with that?

That's a good idea, though maybe people need more stuff than that. Here's a snapshot of the URL playlists index at gonze.com, as of 12/7/03.

Lucas, you should link to your page on what URL playlists are and the various formats.
