I used to live in Rawdon in, I believe, 1951/52. We lived on Church St, right across from the Anglican Church cemetery. Some people I remember are the Cameron brothers (Edwin & Robert), Teddy Christopher, the Grant sisters. I went to the English elementary school. I also remember the Ouimets that had a grocery store on Metcalfe St. We had moved from Joliette and after Rawdon, we moved to Toronto. My mother had died in Joliette, and in Rawdon, we had a wonderful live in housekeper by the name of Olive Scroggie, a life time Rawdon resident. I often think of Rawdon and of some wonderful memories. The principal of our school was a Mr. Ferguson, who was the father of the very famous jazz musician, Maynard Ferguson. I wonder if anybody still remembers me. I now live in Toronto, am 68 yrs old, and my email address is robert388@sympatico.ca One of these days I would dearly love to go back and have a look around the town.

For "Elizabeth Cook" Re:- Post #10 (03/02/04) Re:- "... Robert Brown's descendents ... through his son, Willam". If you know that your Robert Brown's wife was an Annie Forrester, I would be very interested in communicating with you.
Thank You, - Murray

Hello! I am descended from Cornelius Gannon and Eleanor Murray who emigrated from Ireland and came to Rawdon in the early 1800s. His son James Gannon married Ann Skelly--they both died in 1901 and are buried at Ste Julienne. It's so nice to see photos of the area and other information such as the Copping Diaries--it really brings it all to life for me! Wonderful site!

HELLO FROM MONTREAL,QUEBEC AND JUST TO SAY I'VE BEEN GOING TO RAWDON SINCE 1960 AND MY UNCLE TOM MATTHEWS HAD BEEN GOING SINCE 1940'S WHEN HE TOOK THE TRAIN FROM MONTREAL TO GO FISHING. HE BUILT A COTTAGE IN VILLAGE AND THEN HE AND HIS WARTIME BUDDIES BUILT THE FIRST COTTAGES ON LAC CLAIR AND THEY ARE STILL STANDING . I BOUGHT THE RAWDON THEATRE ABOUT 25 YRS AGO WHEN IT WAS A DISCO - USED IT FOR A WAREHOUSE AND SOLD IT RECENTLY TO THE BANK NEXT DOOR WHO TORE IT DOWN FOR A PARKING LOT . I AM JUST NOW SELLING THE OLD SPEAKER AND AMP FROM BACKSTAGE TO A COLLECTOR . WE USED TO RENT A COTTAGE AT GRATTAN LAKE IN THE SUMMERS BACK IN THE 1950'S . LOTS OF GREAT MEMORIES OF A SUPER VILLAGE .WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE BUILDINGS AND INVENTORY AT CANADIANA VILLAGE THAT WAS OWNED BY THE MOORE FAMILY .AND DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROWAN FAMILY WHO I BELIEVE PLANTED A LOT OF THE TALL PINE TREES NOW ON MOST STREETS IN THE VILLAGE .

PLEASE tell Andre Paqette to contact Guy David in Rawdon. He still drives taxi there. His father Emile bought the Manoir around that time and changed the name to the manior david.

Hello. I am researching the William Holtby (b. ca. 1760 prob. in Yorkshire, d. ? in Rawdon) family, and his descendants, for a cousin who is related. Has anyone info. about this family which could be shared? Also, can anyone tell me where I would find the Methodist Church Cemetery in Rawdon? I have information that a number of the Holtby family are buried there. Any info. could be sent to me directly at turnerbrenda@rogers.com. I have other info. which I could share in exchange. Many thanks. BJT
