I am doing a little research on the Wright family of Rawdon Township, Quebec as well as a Richard Wright and Rachel McHenry family of L'Assomption County and a Thomas Hetherington and Letitia Clark family of L'Assomption County. Interested in hearing from anyone descended from these families or with info on them. Also would anyone know if the gravestones at Grace Anglican cemetery in Mascouche have been transcribed and available for purchase or perusal?

Elizabeth married William SMILEY. Any info would be most appreciated..... marilynrennie@hotmail.com

Hi Bev, As far as I can tell from the records down here, the Rawdon is in Quebec. I have a copy of a Burial Transfer Permit showing that my g'father signed to have Fanny Scales sent to Rawdon, P.Q. for interment. She died Apr. 14, 1887 at the age of 35 in Champlain, NY. I think she may have been born in Rawdon Thanks for your reply. Dave Scales

Hi Beverly,
Thank you for all the hard work you do in keeping the history of Rawdon alive. I haven't been to Rawdon since my grandmother passed away a year and a half ago (Aggie Campbell) but it's always going to be a place that I love - I spent many weekends and summers and holidays at her house and miss Rawdon very much. It makes me sad to see so much of the area being so drastically changed.
If I come across any old photos I will let you know!

I'm looking for any information on the Scales family of the Rawdon area. Some of the family came down to the US, in the middle 1800's, and settled in the Rouses Point/Champlain area of New York. I have some info I'd be happy to share with anyone doing the genealogy of my family.

Re: Warren Kenny tracing GGGG grandfather William Cowper, said to have been a Curate at Rawdon after 10 April 1808 Ordination.
There was never an Anglican curate at Rawdon, Quebec named Cowper. The first priest of any Christian faith was J. E. Burton who began his ministry at Terrebonne, Rawdon and district in 1821.
Perhaps he was at Rawdon, NS or in Hastings County, Ontario.

Hi, I'm tracing my GGGG grandfather who was said to have been a Curate in Rawdon sometime after April 1808. His name was William Cowper, and after his Ordination on 10 April 1808, he was alledgely appointed as a Curate in Rawdon. Dispite extensive enquiries with Lambeth Palace, and other C of E Offices, I've not been able to confirm his appointment to Rawdon. Strangely, I know prior to his appointment he lived in Drypool near Hull, and his wife died there in June of 1808, which seems to imply he was sent back to Drypool rather than Rawdon. Can anyone help? Thank you

My wife is a descendant of the late 18th century HOLMES, MELROSE, and WEIR families of Rawdon. We are anxious to correspond with any other descendants of these families. Several years ago we visited Rawdon in the fall. What a gorgeous area! We have also visited these families' roots in Ireland and Scotland.

My GGGGG Grandparents were John Corcoran and Bridget Edwards, presumably of Crossmolina, Co. Mayo. As far as I can determine, they stayed in Ireland. Three of their boys and one grandson worked for the Hudson Bay Company. Presumably John and Bridget died in Ireland, because their sons settled in Rawdon and brought over the rest of their siblings in the early 1800s.
My GGGG Grandfather was James Corcoran (1788-1873), born in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland. He was married to Bridget (1788-1855), also presumably born in Ireland. I have not been able to determine her maiden name. She is always listed as Bridget Corcoran.
My GGG Grandfather was John Corcoran, who was married to Catherine McDonald (or McDonnell). I have no dates for either of them.
My GG Grandfather was Patrick Corcoran, b. 1837 in Rawdon. He was married to Mary Markey, b. 1840 presumably also in Rawdon.
My Great Grandmother was Mary Ann Corcoran (1863-1948), born in St-Ambroise-de-Kildare. Her husband was Arthur Fleury (1862-1941), also of St-Ambroise.
My Corcorans married a lot of different families in Rawdon, St-Alphonse, Ste-Melanie, St-Ambroise-de-Kildare and St-Jacques-de-lAchigan. Some of the names are Daly, Mulligan, Brien-Deroche, McGurrin, Kelly, Landry, Cassidy, Gagnon, Flynn, Rowan, Mullen and Cannon and those are only the ones of which I am aware!
I can be contacted at cully@videotron.ca - I would love to hear from anybody connected to my Corcorans.

/m106This is in reponse to Jackie. (message 106). My gg grandfather was John Denton. His parents were Daniel and Esther Denton who settled in Canada. Esther went to Michigan with her sons, presumably after Daniel died. Many of the descendents of Daniel and Esther Denton remain on the farms that they began in the 1870's, now in Isabella County Michigan. North of Mt. Pleasant.

I moved to Quebec City 7 years ago, and I am intrigued by the migration and opening up of the frontiers in Quebec. As a self-taught student of history, I have found that churches in a historical sense have played a major role as a social and cultural centre. With communties starting, growing and dying in some cases, the church is the legacy of their passing. As I study Quebec local histories, I am shocked that there isn't a provincial registry of ALL the churches in Quebec. There are sites for genealogy and lost contacts, which are meant to be money makers, but there isn't a listing of communities, their churches and dates as a provincial registy. To meet this need, I have started to create a database that I will post on the Web free of charge. If anyone would like to contribute information about their local churches, I will gladly include the information.
PLease email me at ftaylor13@sympatico.ca.
Thank you
