Hi Cat,
When I lived in Plymouth I did lots of temping with Pertemps, they do all the contracts for the council. I had 3 contracts in 9 months and enjoyed them all. The wages are quite low in Plymouth tho, I was previously in South Wales and earning £8 per hour but the general wage for the area is £6 - £6.50 for administration work. Anyway, here's the number, 01752 604 700. Hope it helps.
Annie

I have been reading the rules on military housing and acording to the rules. i should move my family while i am on course in portsmouth. that means changing my eldest daughters secondry school to a curriculum compleatly different to the scottish one, i have to find a new primary school for my middle daughter and i would have the immpossible task of finding a nursery place for my youngest. We have to find a dentist which has room for my wife and kids, move everything 500 miles. my wife has to give up her job and they all have to leave behind all those friend they have not long made. But best of all we do it all again in less than two years to come back up, at which point there wont be a house available in the same area of Glasgow.
Ha, Ha, that will be right.

Are you in Glasgow through choice? I only ask as there is an area port agreement that states that you can keep your house in Faslane, Portsmouth and Plymouth even when you move to another area for a course or different job.
If you can give me a bit more info then I will be able to do a bit of digging.

Hi Hannah - If you contact the HIVE Information Officer at Bordon, she will be able to give you some more information about the housing around that area. Her email address is bordon@hivegb.co.uk or Tel No: 01420 482217. There is also a HIVE at Aldershot, Tel: 01252 347650 aldershot@hivegb.co.uk. You can also check out relevant information from this link to their website - http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceF...ity/Hive/SouthEast/. Good luck with the move! Jackie

Hi Kim, I got posted here to work on the new type 45s on the clyde, at the time i was in quarters in Portsmouth, so Im not here through choice but wish to stay here now. As a money saving exercise HMS Daring (the ship i was drafted to) was classed as Glasgow based right up to the time she left. I was drafted to Daring for 4 years and although i am still under the same draft order, when i am not on course or have some spare time i find myself working on HMS Diamond (which is still Glasgow based). To make matters worse Im in Army quarters and they seem to move round a lot. Confused? So in simple terms I joined a Glasgow based ship for four years which changed its home port 18 months into my draft. Daring is now in Portsmouth but because i live here (Glasgow)i am loaned out to the other ships still in build whenever i have some down time. I am due to start course next week in Gosport which should last for at least 18 months but will find myself returning to Glasgow occasionaly to work (this is just because i have completed parts of the course already and have to find employment while the class catch up. )

Hi Pedro
Bear with us as we just check the rules under the Port Area Scheme. Quick question tho - how old is your eldest daughter? Is she undertaking exams?
Also quick bit of clarity on housing - all accomodation is triservice - so this shouldnt make a difference to who can live there. It is really down to 'the rules'.
Bear with us and we will be in touch. In the interim can you email us at admin@nff.org.uk so that we can contact you directly.
Thanks Kim

Hi Esther
If your husband visits the UPO at SULTAN they will be able to give guidance on what he is entitled to. There are a range of allowances to help with a move, such as disturbance allowance. The UPO will be able to advise your husband on what he is entitled to and how he can claim. If you have any further problems please get in touch on admin@nff.org.uk.

Article for The Guardian - Can you help
There is to be an article in the family section of The Guardian on what it is like to be brought up in a forces family. The article talks to family members from all three services but still needs to understand the experiences of children growing up in a naval family.
They are particularly interested in speaking to boys, aged between 10-12 years, as they do not yet have enough information from this category. The sorts of questions that will be asked are: In what ways do you keep in contact with the serving person while they are away? Are you close to other forces families? Do you go to a regular school or a forces school and what is it like?
The conversational interview will be done over the phone with parental consent. If you would like to take part please contact Jo Mears on: 013 0650 1830.
