Hi Spanner - pleased to hear your heating is working properly again. I have spoken to DE and they have suggested you submit a copy of your bill for the same quarter last year, along with the current one covering the same period of time then they will look at it. To find out the correct Housing Information Centre to submit this paperwork to, follow this link http://www.defence-estates.mod.uk/sfa/poc_hic.php. Jackie

Hi Catherine - you need to contact the HIVE Information Officer for the Plymouth area. Andrea's Tel No is 01752 286138 or email plymouth@hivegb.co.uk. She will be able to give you local information about work and accommodation. If you are planning to marry then you will then become eligible for Service Families Accommodation and your partner can apply to Defence Estates for accommodation. This is only available to married couples. This is a link to the HIVE website for more information http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceF...viceCommunity/Hive/Good luck with the move and if you need any more info please ask. Jackie

Hi There,
My partner is currently serving on HMS Somerset, he in on deployment until August 09.
I am currently living in the Midlands but we are considering that I relocate to Plymouth when he returns, I would really apprceiate any advice or information that anyone could offer regarding finding work, accommodation and what assistance I can expect from the Navy?
Thanks Cat

Thanks Jackie They came out today & fixed the heating system We did recieve a portable heater when the emergency engineer first came out but made hardly any impact on a 3 bed house especially as it's so cold outside! Would we be able to claim any money back from having to use the emergency heater & emersion heater? We took a meter reading the day the heating packed in as the emersion heater uses so much energy! am dreading our bill as the meter was spinning round so fast and the company have said they are to blame for not ordering the right part & leaving us with no heating for 13 days

Hi Spanner - So sorry to hear about your boiler. The engineer should have ensured you were left with some form of heating before he left you, so what I would recommend is that you call the MHS Help Desk again and explain the latest situation, the fact that you have been left without any form of heating and also have a young baby. They should arrange for someone to come out and lend you some alternative form of heating to cover the period of time until your boiler is fixed. Please let me know if they don't! To lodge a formal complaint about the process you select option 3 at the MHS Help Desk and ask to be given a complaint number once you have passed on your reason for complaining, that way it will be recorded and will be followed up subsequently. Good luck, but if you have any more problems please could you email us on admin@nff.org.uk with some more detail and we can pick up on this from the office on Monday. Thanks Spanner. Jackie

Hi Jo - If you contact the relevant HIVE they will be able to give you some more local information about the housing. Brockhurst is covered by the Sultan HIVE (Amanda) - this link will take you to their website for all ways to contact Amanda - http://www.rncom.mod.uk/templates/LocalInfo.cfm?id=2637& Hilsea/Stamshaw is covered by the Portsmouth HIVE (Jo) and this link takes you to Jo's contact details - http://www.rncom.mod.uk/templates/LocalInfo.cfm?id=2655& Some of our regular message board visitors may log on too, and pass on their thoughts too. good luck with the move - Jackie

We are due to move to Portsmouth very soon, its been a real headache re:housing as everyone is aware! I just wondered if anyone knew what the Brockhurst area was like? Also, the flats in Hilsea/Stamshaw?? My Husband is going to be working at HMS Nelson.

Please Note -
Housing Information Centres (HICs) will be closed for a two week period over Christmas. They will close on Friday 19 December and reopen on Monday 5 January. The MHS helpdesk will be open throughout the festive period and they will have necessary DE Housing emergency contact numbers if needed. It would be advisable not to fax through any application forms through to them over this period. Jackie
