I've recently received a draft order for Gibraltar and I have a query regarding visa's for my wife. She's from Thailand and living in England with a spouce visa, it's no problem her going to Gib on a UK visa however gaining a visa for Spain I've heard can be an issue. Is there any support available for Non commonwealth family members. Any help will be much appreciated. Nige

Hello,I am after any info on mother and baby groups in the Portsmouth area specifically for naval families. I attend a couple of groups at the mo but would like to meet other parents in a similar situation. It's tough feeling like a single parent when that is the last thing I am. Cheers.

Nige,
Would've thought Spanish Embassey could answer your queries regarding Spanish visa for you Thai wife. Quite a bit of info on www9.map.es
From what little knowledge I've got of visas I believe it always helps if individuals have independant financial means so that in the event of possible future problems they have the means to support themselves or pay for their return to Thailand (or whatever their country of origin.)
Best wishes for your quest

I LOST TOUCH WITH MY SON, HE JOINED THE NAVY ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO. HIS NAME IS DAVID HAYDN SMITH. HE IS 28 YEARS OLD. HE WAS SERVING ON THE NUCLEAR SUB VENGENCE, BUT I'VE HEARD HE IS ON A COURSE IN PLYMOUTH AT THIS TIME. I DESPERATE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH HIM AGAIN. IF ANYBODY KNOWS HIM I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD TELL HIM, HOW MUCH I LOVE AND MISS HIM EVERYDAY, IF HE COULD GET IN TOUCH WITH ME IT WOULD MAKE MY LIFE COMPLETE AGAIN.

Hi Debs - So sorry to hear you lost touch with your son. You could try contacting NPFS & RM Welfare (Naval Personal Family Service) and they may be able to help you. Depending on where you live will determine which office you need to call: East (inc Portsmouth, eastern England and overseas) - 023 9272 2712 West (inc Plymouth, west of England and Wales) - 01752 555041 North (inc north of England and Scotland) - 01436 672798 This is a link to RNcom, NPFS pages that will give you more information - http://www.rncom.mod.uk/templates/NPFS.cfm?id=1929Alternatively, please contact the magazine Navy News as they run a "Where are you Now" piece, both in the magazine and in their on-line version. Follow this link http://www.navynews.co.uk/WhereAreYouNow.aspx for what to do. Good luck Debs. Jackie

Ricardo,
Cheers for the reply, I was aiming my question more about how the system works with regards to help with gaining the visa. If for example we were posted to Italy or America the Navy would pay for visa's, in regards to Gibraltar it's not required. However I'd understand if they class a Spanish visa as a nicety as my wife can stay within the Gib boarder for 2 years. Is this definatly the case?
Regards
Nige

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help, my son is on HMS Daring, there is a family day at the beginning of May which we would love to attend, we are in Scotland so will have to stay a couple of nights, does anyone know of any reasonable (or cheaper!) B&B's that we could book in Portsmouth, any replies would be appreciated, thanks Tracey

Spoke with my local UPO (Faslane) who seem to be of the opinion that RN would cover cost of your wifes VISA if required for Spain. They recommended you speak with "Foreign & Commonwealth Office" to check the exact VISA requirement. Having viewed a few websites on the subject, opinions seem to be that the Spanish Embassy in Thailand are expert and very helpful.
Best wishes
